Sword. Shard. Book. Arrow. The trials of an apprentice knightsage are brutal—especially if she can’t fly.

Princess Alelle dreams of becoming a Protector of Xil, joining the elite warrior spellcasters, the unrivaled defenders of a world polluted with wild magic and overrun by mutants. But a catastrophic fall in her infancy left her terrified of heights—flightless in a society that takes fierce pride in the power of their wings. More than just a personal failure, her disability is a dangerous weakness, a stain on her royal line that her father’s enemies are eager to exploit.

With no hope of passing the trials, her very existence a threat to her father’s throne, Alelle’s search for a cure leads to dark revelations. Her future might well rely on abilities long hidden, her destiny on the mercy of a meddling goddess.

But when the king’s enemies use her to spring their trap, Alelle is caught in an all-or-nothing race to unlock her gifts, outwit her fate, and conquer the trials. Success could redeem a lifetime’s humiliation. Failure brings deadly consequences for her entire family.

Dive into a complete character-driven trilogy perfect for fans of an immersive new world that starts with deep worldbuilding and flawed heroes, accelerates to fast action, then rises to world-shattering stakes. Packed with breathtaking swordplay, intricate elemental magic, capricious deities, and a touch of clean romance, you'll be riveted by Alelle's desperate fight for Xil.

About the author

Since reading Lloyd Alexander’s Book of Three as a kid, author CJ Parmenter has been a fan of all things sword & sorcery. He loves wandering lost in worlds filled with reluctant heroes, diabolical magic, jealous dragons, and bizarre mechanisms festooned with cogs and whirling armillary spheres.

If you enjoy CJ's work and know someone else who might, please tap them on the shoulder and tell them about it. Your personal endorsement to friends and social media groups is as powerful as all the elemental magic in the universe.

Will the Third White succeed?

The author of this book -has brought all the characters and scenes to life.
It's the edge of your seat page turner. With the birth of the king and Queens third child. She is brought to show everyone who she is. At that time of the showing an earthquake happens. By mistake the babe is dropped
Her life is spared however her wings are damaged. As she grows and trains. Her fear of heights continues
Can she overcome her fears and become an apprentice? This is a must read.

Enjoyed the book until

The ending. Which just threw me totally. The author was setting up for the next book in the series but I am not inclined to read it based on the last chapter of this book.

A book I ordinarily would never read--a coming of age series fantasy--was free and looked interesting on a day I broke all my reading rules. I have so many books, I rarely read a book I just purchased. But this day I wanted to read and maybe finish a book in one day and I chose White Feather.

I am so glad I did! It is strictly in the fantasy genre, and includes familiar characters such as dragons and capricious gods and fate. But it's mostly populated with characters more like sci-fi, the winged humanoid Sylari--and the princess whose wings were broken at birth and since has been too afraid of heights to fly. I expected the book to end with her bursting into flight--but she reached her goal by a different method. She passed the first test, but now the true fight for her kingdom begins. And now I have to wait for Parmenter to write the sequels.
