The Unconquerable Heart: God's Fist

Rate this book
Munna Kaalika, a person born with challenged abilities, to a Colombian mother and an unknown Indian father, rises to become the 'Heavy Weight Boxing champion of the World.' His humble travel from the dingy locales of Sonagachi, Kolkata - the biggest red light area in Asia is not easy. It's strewn with thorns of abuse and hatred. But four individuals - Kaalika Devi, Sylvia Amdur, Ethan Chapman and Hazeem Okonjo, who have faced insurmountable odds in their own lives back him. Short changed in their own lives, they would go on to lengths at each blockade of prejudice, to back him, in the path towards their combined goal, as he's their only hope.
Kaalika Devi, a male to female transsexual and a Colombian settled in India, who raises Munna, backs him out of pure selfless motherly love. Sylvia Amdur, an American journalist of Jewish ancestry, backs him out of pure dedication. Ethan Chapman, an American ex-professional boxer of mixed Caucasian and Afro ancestry, backs him cause he's gotto prove himself to a racist and an egoist individual, who's put his loved one to shame and suppressed him throughout his life, and Hazeem Okonjo, a female to male transsexual of Afro-American ancestry, backs him cause he's got 'A Radical Social Point' to prove to the 'Majority Conformist Society' - a point that cannot be drilled into an otherwise ruthless and insensitive psyche unless, it is coupled with a 'Miracle.'
All Five individuals are 'Unconquerable Hearts' in their own right, as they refuse to cave in to the external pressures of the society that has continuously discriminated them. They persevere in their efforts through sheer conviction and dedication and eventually succeed in proving the term 'Prejudice' to be archaic, and that the way ahead for a modern society is only through 'Love and Tolerance.'

"The Unconquerable Heart God's First" when I saw this book first time I perceive it to be a sci-fi fantasy, but it was completely different genre. A fiction work by Shiva Thejus & Sri Vishnu Tanay is different from normal debut authors.

It took 1 month for me to start this book after I received, and another month to finish after that. Author has gifted this book in exchange of unbiased review. Edition is looking like review or beta, and I found various pointers which has reduced my reading pace, Pointers were corrected in current edition so I am ignoring them for review.

The unconquerable heart is actually a survival stories of five individuals as mentioned in blurb. Munna Kaalika, a deaf and dumb, is the main protagonist of the story. Around Munna others characters woven strongly. Each of these five characters and Munna had went through painful past; and bullied one way of another. Each of them had sacrificed heavily for Munna's future.

Kaalika Devi, whom Munna considered as mother, was actually Carlos. He was Munna's elder brother. He was castrated for money, but saved by Durga Didi. Carlos converted into Kaalika Devi and started working as prostitute. Munna was raised by Kaalika Devi with blind love and Durga Devi with proper discipline. Munna's life changed when a local goon raped Kaalika Devi. Durga Devi intelligently diverted Munna's directionless anger into direction driven workout. After five years of uninterrupted hard work Munna became fearsome personality and avenged his mother's insult. Durga didi sacrificed his freedom to save Munna from criminal cases. Hazeem and Kaalika Devi took help of Ethan Chapman to make Munna a professional boxer.

Punched, battered and crushed - but not yet out!

Book of the month | December of 2016

If we stand for nothing,

we'll fall for anything.

This work was Herculean in all terms. First, allow me the liberty to mention that this is not a book.

But a breathing script.

More on that latter.

Firstly, the line of plot

The story revolves around 5 primary characters including the flairing boxing Munna Kaalika. His brother, coach, a mentor in Hazeem and the love of his life Slyvia. Munna is both deaf and dumb.
He is raised by the sisterhood of eunuchs who put their heart out to wade off the evil spirits off him.

More against the prowling ignoble humans than the spirits.

And denied of his rightful position in the arena.

Discriminated, roughed up and thrown at the rock bottom of life every single time. The only thing that he has is sheer will power. This steel hard approach of his makes him work like a beast with the body of a machine. The story is all about the ups and downs that his life undergoes to shoot up the animal inside him. Of the redemption. Of washing away of self guilt.

Bringing to justice the ones who wandered away in the unholy paths.

The plot line is the script of a smashing would-be movie.

Writing Style

The bits and flashes that happen present to you a vivid imagery that beholds your attention. The way the author duo of Shivish have penned this one, I will not be surprised if this becomes a bestseller in the coming days.

Warning : This book contains sexual violence and a lot of its plot is fueled by the wrongdoings brought upon the meek by those in the corridors of power.

Exploitation is the right word. Using your position to take unfair advantage.

The pen has been brought to paper in no better a manner by any debut author. The compelling narration keeps you on the hinge ALWAYS.

A heavy reliance of dictionary is pardonable. The stellar choice of words are a delight and sure to shoot your GRE score up.

You just couldn't keep the book from rolling on in itself.

Character Development

One Word : Excellent. Details are engrossing and will pique your interest. The backstories and flashbacks are the fringe-benefits of this fine work that took 12 years to complete.

The additional people like Durga Didi, Miranda, Hollie, Tretan - were thrived over the course of 400 pages.

My thoughts

The underlying current of this book is not revenge. Avenging the crime bestowed in the peaceful lives of normal people is not the agenda.

It's rather the fight against the idea of bigotry.
"You don't have to blow out others' candles

To make yours shine brighter."

Bullying your schoolmates, pulling their pants down, bulldozing the guy who speaks the least in the group - it all accumulates in the subconscious.

We create our own downfall.

The erosion happens gradually. You start with calling names to the one who can't defend himself. You graduate to higher levels of subjugation with age and you become the tyrant ultimately. You know the worst part?

You think you are correct in doing this. You are just having fun.

But oppression is perennially known to wade off. Because when justice comes calling, there are very few places you can seek shelter. A man possessed with your blood won't be trading money in exchange. That's what the five characters of this book were : Pillars of freedom from tormentation.

Raped, outcasted, shamed and strong-armed.

The rose above it and the world bowed down.

Prejudices are an epidemic for a blossoming society and drawing lines with those of others is as incriminating as crushing their soul. Which is no less than killing the individual itself.

"What mercy shall be drawn out to those,

Who called the vultures of retribution with their very own hoots."

Justice can be delayed.

But never be denied.

Bottom Line : Shivish is a name you'll remember.

5 exceptional stars of virtuousness.

I would like to thank the authors for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

I am not lying when I say that I've never read a book like this in my life and I am pretty sure I won't read another either! This is a "one of a kind" book and I am glad I actually decided to give it a try.
The characters in this book are so damn strong! Like.. I wouldn't have gone through even 1% of what they went through without breaking down every day! And my personal favorite of all of them is "Kaalika". She was hands down the best part of the book. Also, Carlos did not deserve it! :(
The best part about the writing is that even though you haven't been through the things that the characters had to go through, you could still sympathize with them. You could still feel their pain and to me, that was what made the book such an emotional read.

Also can I mention that Miranda is a sweetheart? She deserves to be happy and loved and I am glad that happened.

All the other "unconquerable hearts" of the book set up great examples and were really brave to put up with everything.

Although this book was a great read, I had a little trouble reading it because...
1. There was a lot of swearing involved! Like.. a lot. And most of it was in the beginning and I think that might be a really big negative to this book. The amount of swearing was a bit too much and there was a time I considered to stop reading the book! (I am glad I did not though, or I would've missed out this great story!)
2. The pictures.. I don't know why, but they bugged me.

Those were my major complains with this book and another thing that really irritated me while reading this book was Tretan!!!! That jerk!! Every time he was in a scene I was like.. "Can we please kill this guy?" And I think that my hatred towards Tretan is a really good example of how powerful the writing was. Also, half way through the book, I could see the plot turning into a movie-like story. The scene where the final result was being declared.. it actually felt like I was watching a movie! Hands down, the best chapter of the book!!!

On the whole, this book is a hard hitting, emotional and a little dark! I am sure that I'll never totally get over it and I don't know how to feel about that!

After considering the copy I received as a preview version, I wholeheartedly reinstate the 4/5 rating on the assurance from the authors that the flaws in the publication have already been rectified and the updated edition will be released soon. It was bit unfair of me to drop ratings solely on the basis of publication issues and would love to extend my sincere apologies to my readers, authors/ publishers for the inconvenience caused.

Original Review
Rating: 3/5

The Unconquerable Heart: God’s Fist by ShiVish actually an amalgamation of Shiva Thejus and Vishnu Tanay and actually loved that idea. Now coming back to the book, this is completely a new genre for me more of a “one of a kind” book with 5 amazingly strong characters, truly unconquerable hearts going through a tough life one couldn’t even possibly imagine. But it would be unfair of me not to give you at least an idea of what the book is all about. The plot basically revolves around Munna, a boy brought up unimaginably difficult circumstances who grows to become a boxing Champion not just because of his success in channeling of anger and revenge but also those who made it possible especially a mother endless love and constant support, love of hundreds who you would know once you read the book.

The authors have done a brilliant job in painting a clear picture of the scenario, their pains and struggles and the deep emotion making the reader sympathize for the characters in this fictional plot. The characters are well developed and very likable. The book also throws light into few socio-cultural aspects creating awareness to a certain degree without diverting the reader’s attention from the main storyline. I also loved the details provided during the boxing training and matches further boosted my level of satisfaction with the book. All these would have easily got a 4/5 rating for this book but…

Apart from the cover which was spot-on kudos to the designing team, all other depictions was a huge letdown for this book they actually bugged me. The humble reminder of the conversation actually being in Hindi also at times felt unnecessary. I personally feel these factors have impacted to a great extent of the overall quality book thus my rating too.

Overall, “One of a kind” book with amazingly strong characters and an interesting story line making it a good read.

Wow,this is a great read indeed,it's a rollercoaster ride all through. Each character of the book is indeed Unconquerable heart in their own right. The struggle, the pain, the emotion, the prejudiced thought ,everything was so neatly described. Many of the times my eyes were moist while reading this book and sometimes the win over the dark forces made me feel so happy. The journey of Munna through out ,his helplessness ,his channelizing of anger and taking revenge crushing the ego of the bigots are well portrayed and will keep everybody glued to the book.Endless love showed by a mother and the other form of that love from wife will made everybody introspect how selfless ,the love itself is. But no matter what ,selfless love always strikes the right chords in life and the positive energy out of it would always take you forward. Success of Munna is the testimony of the fact that dogged determination, indomitable desire to win ,and the right proportion of love from your own , would sail you through any tides of life with ease and you will come out as champion. The great social message that the book holds is that no matter who the person is , all are creations of god and in his eyes all are equals. So its very much necessary to come out of our prejudiced thought process and treat everyone as equals .The book is a great script for a movie adaptation and would eagerly be waiting when the same releases......Thank you to the author of this book for this lovely book.

The Unconquerable Heart is a tale of downtrodden characters who have been dealt a bad hand in life by no fault of their own. The protagonist, Munna, an autistic boxer who cannot hear nor speak yet has a masterful understanding of the emotions of those around him, trains to become the champ and get a shot at the Heavyweight Championship of the World belt. His trainers are Evan, a washed up drunk who was ejected from professional boxing after being falsely accused of cheating, and Hazeem, a post-op transgender social activist.

The story illustrates the indomitable courage and strength that the human spirit is capable of when the characters believe in something bigger than themselves, even when their beliefs cause them undue pain, torment, and on one occasion, BDSM sex that starts in a dungeon and ends in a trip to the hospital. The Unconquerable Heart manages to do this in a unique way with an original cast of characters that are devoid of clichés, including a coke fiend billionaire nazi, an ass kicking lesbian power couple, a doting transgender mother and some of the most unlikely freedom fighters you’ll ever meet.

Thanks to Shivish for sending me the book . It would have been great if he could have sent a signed copy as I am doing it with some of my readers of my book on short stories . The Unconquerable Heart has an adult theme . So I will not recommend it to the minors to read . The story has lot of characters , but the interest in the book never wanes . There are lot of ups & downs in the script of the Book . I seriously wish that the book is made into a film in Hollywood . And I am sure the two brothers can play the role in the movie. Vishnu is indeed camera shy as he has himself mentioned . Shiva is the extrovert type and he has the good looks , to be part of a Hollywood scenario. I know that these two blokes have been in the Indian film industry for quite some years . Now is the time for Shiva Thejus to play the role of Munna Kaalika . The story line is different from the other books . But it's a good read .

Here’s my review the book named The Unconquerable Heart: God's Fist written by two authors Sri Vishnu Tanay and Shiva Thejus. First of all I would like to thanks author for sending me copy of the book for review purpose. I have tried to present honest review here.

The book with length of 432 pages is a story of a boxer Munna. It’ll be very good to say that the story is actually about many characters, their lives, their struggles, their sufferings and their love and unconditional love for a boy who eventually goes on to win hearts of people across world. The book cover features a man with long hair and bread, full of anger and delivering power-packed punch. That itself, along with the title of the book, convey emotions the story would be containing.

The story goes through lives of many characters and keeps revolving around Munna, the protagonist. Munna is the boy who was born in unimaginably difficult circumstances and with physical and mentally challenged condition. He was receiver of unconditional love and affection from not one but hundreds. I would not like to reveal any details about his family and surrounding as it would be nothing less than a spoiler.

The other character named Sylvia, who notices Munna in Calcutta. She starts admiring him and falls in love with him eventually. Her love, which is just determined to do anything for the betterment of Munna’s life, gives very emotional and shaking story. Sylvia tries her best to meet Munna after spending years in Indian and USA prisons, she puts her heart and soul to him innocent from the allegations which were intentionally framed on him and gives new life to his dying boxing career. From the silent sacrifices to the marriage, authors have narrated the story very effectively. It is surely a page turner.

Hazeem and Kaali Devi, father and mother of Munna, too had their own share of pain and suffering. While narrating their stories, authors have used language which made me feel quite uncomfortable. I will not say a bad language but still I personally feel that there must be some other way of saying what tried to say. I felt that it contained similar plots and the stories were stretched little too far, boring at times. However, I cannot deny that it gave different angle to the whole story and makes you rethink about the existing definitions of motherhood and fatherhood.

Tretan, who is unopposed ruler of boxing world and who is nothing less than a devil, tries every possible thing to destroy lives of people who are eyesore to him. Authors seem to have invested a lot of research and imagination in this character as Tretan looks like a man who has done all kind of crimes. Again, I will say that the kind of language or wordings used while narrating his misdeeds, makes the reading little uncomfortable. Incidents are described in too detailed manner and it feels sad to read such humiliating and heinous crimes.

Characters like Ethan, coach and mentor of Munna, Miranda, friend of Sylvia, Durga Devi, mentor mother of Munna… These characters actually made very much impact. I found them very impressive. Authors have done complete justice to the characters and none of them gives a bit of disappointment.

I must mention that the boxing matches and training of Munna were my most favorite parts of the book. The way these happenings are narrated, it makes you feel like you’re actually watching it all on a screen. The narration has been engaging and even a person like me who has no interest in boxing enjoyed it thoroughly. Even the conspiracy part was intriguing, turned thriller or mystery for a while.

If certain wordings and images are ignored then the book is decent one. At times I skipped few sentences of the book and paragraphs also. Still, few parts of the book were so interesting that I paid it all attention and enjoyed it very much. Repetitive note about translation and certain grammar mistakes are not too cool. This book is good one time read according to me. It can be a good read if you’re looking for completely different kind of books. Not recommended to those who are unfamiliar with adult content.

I will give it 3.5 stars, out of 5.

All writers would definitely impart 5 stars to their respective babies, and we are no different. But, we do have our reasons on why we’re so passionate of the work that we created, and it’s no superficial, over-the-top narcissist love; It’s a contained, meticulous pride which we nourish and cherish ourselves to, every minute of our lives, as very little people are compassionate of others feelings, as we are. TRUE – Immensely TRUE. This world is full of haughty, uncompassionate, insensitive, lecherous, greedy, selfish, ruthless, jealous, ungrateful, materialistic and emotionless people, who just do not care for others. This is not just our observation, but it’s the saddest TRUTH.

Some words are so very damn deep that they have countless connotations and unfathomable depths - LOVE, COMPASSION, PATIENCE and TOLERANCE are on top of that list. If man conquers these four words, then there is no place for a literal ‘HEAVEN’ in our religious texts, as you will have it here, right in front of your eyes, for you to enjoy, consciously, and not just dream of. But, unfortunately, our genes reek of primeval-barbarism.

Characteristic traits like docility, industriousness, compassionateness, inventiveness, aspiration, and divergence have been wrought-upon with havoc by 'JEALOUSY' and ‘INTOLERANCE’ right from the day man learnt he has a thumb. These two traits are the foremost inherent primordial barbaric-qualities, which have always made man a sucker for others booty – be it kill or women. Not being chauvinistic here, but it just started that way folks, and now the fairer of our species are no less different in their approach, as well. ‘JEALOUSY’ and ‘INTOLERANCE’ are at the root-cause of every evil, our species has ever seen, is seeing, and will ever see.

If we could tame these two inherent malicious juggernaut-monsters, or at least try to keep them within limits, time and again – especially on a day to day basis, and try to inculcate, and educate ourselves of some facets of LOVE, COMPASSION, PATIENCE and TOLERANCE in everyday walks of life, then humanity would be taking its first steps towards ‘Divinity.’

Our effort, ‘The Unconquerable Heart: God’s Fist’ is just that… Sensitising people to other’s emotions and perceptions, and making them take those tiny steps towards ‘Divinity.’ – Absolutely no bragging here. We swear.

We've tried our best to dip our readers into the sea of pitiful-emotions, experienced by people who face malicious prejudice in various everyday walks of life; Prison abuse, abuse of power of office and money, rape, consensual-rape, objectification of women, male-chauvinism, racism, insensitivity towards LGBTQ groups and handicaps, and Nazism, are just some forms of abuse trodden-upon in our work, in a manner that appeals to the emotional-sensibilities of the reader, and makes him/her sympathise with the travails of the prejudiced. The whole idea is to present an enthralling story along with a tinge of a societal-message, to make the travel entertaining, and enlightening, as well.

Read it, to know it for yourselves! Come, brutally quell your barbaric sides and try to triumph over your innate-evils!! Emerge as an infallible spiritual-mutant!!! And, make this world a better place…

I got a copy of this book from the author's' in exchange for an honest review.
When I was reading the book, I came across that the author of this book Shivish was not one person. It were actually two brothers Shiva and Vishnu. The author name was an amalgamation of the two.Quite cool !
Coming to the book, the cover was indeed very stunning .That made me more curious about the book. It is a story about five extraordinary strugglers who go through immense pain, sacrifice , hatred and challenges throughout their life. The characters were portrayed in detail and the choice of characters was unique. Truly, the title of the book goes hand in hand with the plot. The book made me realize how much liberty we take at disrespecting others if they're not like us, slightly different from the traditional notion of society. It delivered a very good message.
Unique and worth reading.

I believe this book was written with the intention of a big screen adaptation, the very intensity of drama is visible all through story. And it was a bit too much for me, the violent tragedies, rapes, murders and mob lynching. Writing was good and followed the same pace all way, typesetting and illustrations, not so much, something completely off the hands of writer I presume. Still, its the story of different individuals getting to success in their own ways, fighting through serious adversities with nothing but their will power.

This seems like a popular book and its one of those times you find yourself the minority, crippled by goodreads rating system, unable to bifurcate the stars.

I thank the authors for sharing a physical copy, and extend my congratulations on the feat of publishing the novel. Hope they get it to big screen, like they dream.
