This is a great thriller. Written by Icelandic author Ingvi Kormaksson, an unnamed narrator listens to fellow recovering alcoholic Egril as he relates his experiences as a drunk, confesses his transgressions (the recovering alcoholic's ninth step), which descended into murder. There are a couple of neat twists in the book. What's remarkable is that the story is engrossing and thrilling as Egril recounts his experience as a drunk and his rise to recovery, all of it seemingly normal for someone in this position. A terrific read.

I was intrigued by the title and the cover illustration.

As I began reading, my first impression was that I found the protagonist interesting. I liked the way he talked to the reader and was interested in whatever he had to tell me. As I carried on reading, I found that I identified with this protagonist in some ways - for example, his attitude towards books and reading. Aside from all of that, I thought this was a good suspenseful thriller.
