Wait, wth I’d just read? 🤨😳😂

Okay, it was a nice surprise, if you want to read this book, don’t bother to check any spoilers!
You will enjoy it more that way.

Up to 50% was a very nice and lovely romance, than two booms happened and made your eyes rolling and head spinning!! I‘ve never expected that at all, especially regarding our hero. My oh my...

Do I buy it in real life happening like that? Probably not, but, hi folks this is a fiction story, chill out and don’t take it too seriously, ok? 😘 So yeah, I forgive him after read that letter and will love him forever too!:) 😁

This was good (particularly before the reveal) but I am excruciatingly uncomfortable about John Doe's actual "past". Would have gotten 4 stars, and 3 is still being extremely generous, because I don't think that is something that can and should be overlooked, nor in anyway romanticised. That's seriously, seriously, seriously, seriously problematic. Had I known this element was contained herein I would never have picked up this book. I don't support this in any form.

Also, I really didn't like that in his letter John Doe says to Anitra that he didn't see her colour. You should want to be loved for the skin you're in, not 'in spite' of it.

Anyway, I didn't anticipate the reality show bit at all, and I thought it worked well. It was fun and funny to read, while also being insightful. I don't watch tv at all, especially reality shows so that might be why this small dosage worked for me. I would argue with people who think it's out of touch. I think it's quite fitting within a contemporary context.

This book came at the end of the revenge baby book, which was a nice surprise.

I was gifted this ARC for an honest review...

Theodora Taylor can really weave memorable and cleverly-crafted stories and "His Forbidden Bride" is now officially my favorite!

I enjoyed the H/h coupling between resident Anitra Dunhill aka Doc and handsome amnesia patient. It was a concerned doctor/TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) patient relationship turned friends then lovers. At first Doc couldn't wait to leave the backwoods of West Virginia but when amnesia patient entered her set but cryptic world, their relationship becomes primary in both their lives, well they just can't part... ever.

This story had it all --- friendships both new and old, spicy romance, mystery, vivid hospital setting focused on a children's illness, spitfire caring doctor who questions her ethics a lot; concerned yet stoic doctors, funny banter, just wow-weeeeeeee --- everything !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Taylor didn't exaggerate! This story can give readers a strong case of whiplash with all the twists and turns going on but honestly, I LOVED IT!! The drama, double lives of H/h and how it all falls into a beautiful HEA.

5+ cleverly written and memorable stars *****

I'm giving this 4 or 5 stars (can't decide yet). I couldn't put it down once I started although there were a few hiccups along the way. I recommend this and absolutely love how the two main characters meet and interact... So much to say...
Review to Come...

UPDATED!! 5/4/2016
Damn! This was a good book! High five Ms. Theodora you did your thing! I'm going to keep this review pretty brief because to give away any hint of a spoilers will shatter the impact of the story. Yes, the author asked reviewers not to reveal the who is who of the book, but I don't think I would have done so anyway. I'm glad that it hit me the way that it did, and I think anyone who reads it will appreciate the deliciousness of reading it unspoiled the first time.

Okay, that said, I loved this book. No, it isn't perfect. I had issues with some of the wording, but when I complained about it out loud, my wonderful husband simply said "keep it in context." So okay, not everyone has to talk or behave like I would. Got over it (for the most part). Read the book and you can probably figure out what my issue was (is?).

Doesn't matter though. I'm still giving this book 5 stars.

His Forbidden Bride, at its most basic, is about a man with amnesia, a doctor struggling with her attraction and the ethics of it, and a whole lot of heat and lovin'. From the moment this couple meets I was hooked. From the moment! The chemistry was coming up off the page and it was undeniable that these two were like magnets drawn together. I'm so impressed with this author and I firmly believe this is her best book to date. I'm look forward to reading more in the future. In fact, the story ends with a nice tie in to the next book. Yay!

I know this was different from my usual reviews, but I definitely recommend His Forbidden Bride. Get it. Read it. Enjoy it. Like I've said, it has a few hiccups but the story overall is so enjoyable that those flaws seem minor in comparison.

*I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review*

This story was wild as hell with more plot twists than a damn curly fry.

So, you think this bougie, vegan doctor falls for the sexy amnesiac, and for a little over 50% of the book, yeah, but then HOLY FUCKING PLOT TWISTS BATMAN...

Nitra is a doctor, finishing her residency in West Virginia when she meets a patient who has no idea who he is, where he came from, or how he got there. Cool. Sounds like a sweet, lil romance. Yeah, ok...

To make a long story short, Nitra and "John Doe" develop this intense attraction and decide to get married. On their way to the altar, all kinds of atomic bombs drop on this relationship-from both sides. Ain't nobody who they claim to be, and I'm just like -_-

Messy, but entertaining story. If you are a kumbaya-i-don't-see-color person-why-she-have-to-go-there, this is not the read for you. If you find use of the n-word offensive, then this is not the read for you. If you like jaw-droppin, wtf did I just read, where they do that at...then this is the story for you.

Keeping completely honest here

I really enjoy Mrs Taylor,I really do.the book was well written and I enjoy her writing style and respect it. Having said that, I made a choice to never entertain books about white supremacists and this one didn't make me change my mind. I just cannot.there is nothing sexy or romantic to me and I just found myself shaking my head after the big reveal throughout the rest of the book.add to that, the fact that I REFUSE to watch reality shows in my house and this just really pushed it over the edge for me.i give it a three because Mrs Taylor is really a good writer and I will not disparage a thing about her,but this books content, I just can't stomach.

This is one of my favourite authors I have read a few of her books. Lately I have been collecting them and not reading them.

Well I read this one and was totally blown away. The story had many twist and turns but the final reveal was totally shocking to my brain. I did not see that coming and it totally took my breath away. I won't give any spoilers as this would ruin the story for other readers.

I would highly recommend this book as an absolutely fantastic story. I loved it.

OMG...Soooo Good!!

I loved the twists & turns that John/Woods and Doc/Nitra's story took. John was sooooo genuinely amazing, honest, and FIERCELY SEXY in the way he always treated Doc. I was thrown for a loop when he found out who he really was; then another before the story ended just the way I like them - with a HEA!

Favorite Quotes:

“You wanted to have a conversation,” he practically snarls into my ear. “Let’s have a conversation. How about we talk about how lost I was feeling before I met you? So f#%king confused and weak. Then I saw you. Beautiful as hell. Teaching dying kids to sing. How about we have a conversation about you showing up in my room with that sandwich and that music?” “If you really want to talk so bad, let’s talk about you telling me you’re my family now. Let’s talk about you bringing me into your home so I could give you what you deserve. Everything you deserve for being such a beautiful angel to me.”

“I want to feed you when you come home to me tomorrow.”

“No, Doc, there’s only you,” he says. “I’m brain damaged and confused. But you…” He pats his heart with his good hand. “You fill up my chest, and I know there ain’t anybody else but you in here.”

I enjoyed this book immensely but when Woods got his memory I was cringing hard. I knew he had to be running from a criminal last. Before he remembered his old life. He was an awesome guy with amnesia.
Anitra and her family were a handful. Actually, this felt like watching the Osborne family values

Boy howdy, this book was a trip! The first half was really good. John/Woods and Anitra had chemistry from their very first scene together and I really dug their connection.

The second half up until chapter 33...

description

The first half, the ending, the set up for the next book, AND the fact that with all his history John/Woods is still preferable to Colin (who remains loathsome) are the reasons this one gets 3 stars.

ETA: I found my self laughing at times I don't think I was supposed to be amused and confused when I think I probably should have been entertained. I know the Theodora Taylor legion will be rolling their eyes at my review but this was fun until the circus came to town. For me, there weren't any big twists (I guessed from some dialogue/his accident/ my knowledge of Taylor's other southern "heros" the kind of person he probably was before and from her dialogue/ phone conversations who her family was... the only real surprise was her mother). Different strokes, lol.

I loved this book. It was a great read. I couldn't put it down. The twist in the book was like damn, wait a minute let me go back and reread that.

I think this book in the series is my best so far. I liked Anitra's character. She was desperately trying to get away from a person that she wasn't to become who she really was. Now let's get on to Woods! First what kind of name is that? Second I have no words to describe him. He's like someone you immensely dislike but you also like. If that makes any sense. His character was very well written and developed I will say.

I like how she always connects her books. Colin Fairgood made an appearance as well as Sola.

Great book. Now I have to wait until July for the next one.

Happy Reading!!!

Rage-inspiring? No, it wasn't that good.

I'm not sure if I am upset that the story is stupid or that I took time out of my merciless double-shift work schedule and book-reading hiatus to read something that is stupid.

'Story Elements'
Amnesiac male lead.
Reality star daughter who runs away to become a doctor.
Drag queen son.
Cancer-stricken kids who sing.
Gangster Rapper husband with the Pastor wife.
The totally scheduled unoriginal unexpected pregnancy, and the subsequent "Let's get married, for the baby" plot event. Can I roll my eyes now?
Country music star.
Racist banker gang.
A high profile award show.
The repentant bigots, who discover they're bigots because of terrible childhoods. Can I roll my eyes again?
West Virginia, California and Washington State.
Multiple hospital scenes.

Maybe there is a story out there where these elements have been turned into a great piece of literature. This was not that story. I was...
Bored the first 20%
Annoyed the middle 60% and
Angry the last 20%, particularly at my self for continuing to read this ridiculous nonsense even after I saw it for what it was.

Maybe it's time Ms. Taylor get her hormones checked, because her books are getting crazier and crazier. The kind of crazy that can only on be attributed to an acute hormonal imbalance.

Or maybe it's me. Maybe I'm just not romantic enough to believe anything of this.

3.75-4 stars.

This book was interesting…it was good, but some parts were cringey. This was an amnesia trope with the hero, Woods having lost his memory due to a motorcycle accident and brain injury. I’m just going to lay some things out so if you don’t want spoilers—don’t read.

I would recommend reading the ebook vs audio. The southern drawl for the hero made my skin crawl seeing as I am a southern girl and we don’t sound like that. Lol. I got through the audio, but it was distracting at times.

The use of the n word and n bitch word bothered me more than I thought it would, but these bikers were dyed in the wool racists and I wouldn’t expect anything different from these types. Born and raised in MS so trust—I know!

Loved the hero with amnesia, but it was covering the racist within and being that the heroine was Black I was legit scared.

The heroines family..ugh. A total train wreck and literally a reality show, but they kinda grew on me…kinda.

Thank God the hero redeemed himself shortly after getting his memory. He chose love. He chose what his heart obviously saw when he had memory loss and the heroine entered his room in the hospital. He fell HARD for her. So all in all this story ended up being okay and I look forward to more from this author!!

Although this book had a few quirks (i.e. Insta-Luv, Corny moments, believability concerning Anitra's family, etc), I really enjoyed reading it. Because not only was it captivating, but there were enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Giving this one: 3.25 stars.

Okay, so this one? Waaaaaaaaay better than book 3. THIS ONE, I can work with!
John Doe/Woods/D/Dixon and Anitra/Doc were AMAZING together! I loved watching these two collectively. It was beyond a treat getting to know them.

Though I do wish that we could have gotten some chapters through Dixon's POV, especially during his trying to figure things out/re-learning himself stage. Everything was in Nitra's POV with the exception of two surprising ones from Mason (Book 3). Just would have been nice to be in D's head too. Seeing things, the way he did sometimes.

But I digress. The story between these two main characters were on point. From how they met and why, to where they end up. Their journey was beyond a treat to witness. It was intense, deep, loving, heartbreaking & shocking...

Through all of this though, my fave scene with them was when they fell asleep together on Nitra's couch. I don't know why such a simplistic moment stood out to me the most, well maybe I do. That scene wasn't just sweet & intimate, that scene embodied everything that they were and would be to each other, before you even knew all of their story. And I really LOVED witnessing that moment with them early on. It was very touching to me... And how they woke up wasn't bad either ;)

The surprise plot twist with Nitra was... well surprising. A little strange. Not my fave, but I do see why it was placed where it was for two reasons. One, it's very clear from this book and book 3 that our Author is obsessed with reality T.V... Two: It's the only plot device that makes believable sense on how the story moves ahead in its reveals regarding Dixon. So, I get it. But it felt like I was in a completely different story there for a little while, so I wasn't crazy about that one. You'll see.

But once everything was revealed and the way the conclusion played out, I was happy and breathing easy with it again. Though the Epilogue was not my fave, again, (book 3) but this one didn't totally suck either. I guess I was just hoping for something a little more... intimate for the Epilogue.

So, with the exception of the plot twist and Epilogue (Hence the 4 stars) I really, really enjoyed this read. It had me all in my feelings. So, I'm glad for that.

Moving on to book 1 now.

Dr. Anitra Dunhill while doing her residency in West Virginia gets more than she bargains for when she unexpectedly falls head over hills in love with an amnesiac patient causing her to question her moral principles behind actions she partakes in. The amnesiac patient, John Doe aka Woods just knows Dr. Anita Dunhill feels new meaning she isn't someone he knew from his past, yet she feels familiar to him. You have to read the book to find out how the doctor is both familiar and unfamiliar to John. I like both main characters in this book.

The good doctor for all intents and purposes is a good doctor from the beginning but is hesitant with Woods and it has nothing to do with his memory loss. Woods, can’t remember who he is, where he comes from but is commanding, dominant, and controlling especially in the bed room.
"...The way you had sex me last night- it was like you putting me in my place. Establishing who was in control."
It was interesting to see the dynamic of these two and the effect they had on one another. Secondary character, Mason piqued my interest as well and I wonder if there is a book with him as the lead.

I have not read many medical books but I'm finding I do like the ones with an amnesiac theme as there are so many avenues an author can explore and Theodora Taylor creatively showed a conundrum of scenarios. I won't reveal the big mystery however I'm happy of the outcome.

It was because of the treatment of Woods' past and the outcome that I will read another one of this author's books. The way I see it is if positive character growth/transformation has been made to the point I feel it is plausible/realistic who am I to judge? Like the saying goes, if you love it, I like it and Theodora Taylor wrote a hella of realistic tale albeit my one gripe.

My only gripe is that I was appalled by Anitra's family and language. I don't watch and get down with this type of RTV for this reason. This was my first Theodora Taylor book and I'm glad I pick His Forbidden Bride: 50 Loving States, West Virginia to read as a June BOTM along with the Fans of Interracial Romance group. His Forbidden Bride: 50 Loving States, West Virginia gets 4.5 Anitra may have started off as a forbidden bride but ultimately in the end was his perfect bride stars

This review was updated at the request of the author.

I was provided an advance copy for an honest review. This is how I see it. Another good read from Ms. Taylor. I love how she interlaces her characters from different books.

At the beginning of this book, I am like WTH. Who threw her overboard mafia style?!. We last met Anitra in Her Russian Brute (Sola's and Ivan's story). When she called and told Sola that she had gotten married at first I thought it was to the mysterious buyer of Ivan's house.

Anitra is a resident at UWV/Mercy Hospital in West Virginia when she meets John Doe and befriends him. Anitra knows that she is acting out of character. For the life of her, she cannot figure out why this man affects her to the degree that she brings him gifts and lunches. When Ken mentions that 'John' is recovering faster than they would expect...I was thinking paranormal (maybe he is some kind of shifter).

When 'John' is released from the hospital she is supposed to take him to a men's shelter, she takes him home instead. Things start to get real interesting from this point forward. They settle into a nice routine as a couple although Nitra is not all the way sold and 'John' is working on that both mentally and sexually.

This story has an HEA, as well as an intro into another story. I look forward to the next installment of the 50 States series. Well done Ms. Taylor, well done.

I received it as an ARC and I am so happy I did ! Theodora Taylor is a author that I automatically buy because I know I'm going to get a unique story on scenarios that are covered in many storylines, and His Forbidden Bride certainly is a continuation of that type of storytelling. I really enjoyed the mystery of who John and all I can say is, when you find who he is ,you will be totally have your mouth hanging open like I did. Anitra has her secrets to but you have to continue to read this book to find out what it is. John and Nitra have a passionate intrest story to tell, and I can say is you will read this story and not be able to put it down again until you have read the last page .

This was one of Taylor's combo books: "His Revenge Baby" and "His Forbidden Bride". The reoccurring theme in both was racial stereotypes. They were subtle in the first book but by the end of "His Forbidden Bride" it felt like I was reading the script for a Family Guy episode, complete with racial caricatures and an outlandish plot.

EASILY the best IR I've read in years. I was well on my way anticipating a 5 star review, UNTIL....

This went way off the rails in the fourth quarter. Seriously. One completely unnecessary twist that I have no idea why it was included unless perhaps Taylor thought the story was too patent or one note. I'll throw a couple of mild spoilers in by saying, its one thing to have the heroine have a wild reveal of her own, but to compound it with the details that were included was over the top. HIS background reveal was complex enough to have been given more detail in the resolution part than it was given. It felt..skimmed. And for such a deeply emotional and complicated twist, it should have been detailed better.

Still, a breath of fresh air in a genre that disappoints so often. Taylor is a solid writer, I'm just consistently disappointed with her details, if not her subjects. This one kept me entertained and even laughing through much of it. And the sex scenes were WELL done. Woods is a great alpha in a way that is suprising for a man in his position. The best alphas are the ones completely smitten, and not assholes. He was perfect in my opinion.

This is an extremely entertaining read, and definitely a tick up from the author's last book, "Her Russian Brute," which I enjoyed but seemed overly familiar. I would suggest to other curious to read this story to do so in one sitting vs over time in order to really engross yourself in the unfolding mystery and romance.

Nitra is an interesting character as she's strong, yet she's also insecure and let's doubt overwhelm her at times. Her mystery man is intriguing. No spoiler on his reveal but it is well done and I didn't see it coming. I recommend this book and look forward to the next story in the series, which was introduced in the last few pages of "His Forbidden Bride."

Awesome read

Awesome storyline! Never read one quite like this. Can’t wait to read the next book with Mason. Was it unethical for Nitra to take an amnesiac guy home? Maybe. But remember...this is a FICTIONAL BOOK. We are here to read and escape reality for a bit. Loved how Woods was so dominant in the bedroom, but would bend over backwards to please Nitra. Her family drama seemed to have been thrown in randomly and didn’t really fit the script in my opinion. Nevertheless, this book was great!

John/ Woods (mmc) was so assertive and dominant from the start and I loved that but then the truth comes out about him and sheesh 🥴 VERY no bueno.
The secret Nitra was hiding about her family was a bit ridiculous and very over the top but I very much enjoyed her and her family.
This book is another one by Taylor that just hits the spot for me of being reliable and an easy read.

I'm feeling some type of way after reading this book. First, I don't like Ms Taylor's first person narrative books. There are a few authors who I expect first person story telling from because they always write in that way. Ms Taylor likes to switch it up and I ain't down for that. Still, if I'd known that at first, I still would have read the book because I know she won't let me down in terms of delivering an excellent story.

This was a good story but the reveal had me side-eying Ms Taylor hard. Like girl, really?
How you gonna write about getting preggo by a K.K.K? Reformed or not. Naw son. Ain't having it. I don't care that he's reformed. I don't care that he wants to make amends. I don't care. Homie and his clan would have you swinging from a tree 70 years ago and even today if they could get away with it.

So taking aside the falling in love with a racist (unknown or not) this was a good story. So I'll give it a reluctant grumbling 4 stars.

Smh. Hope this is the last of this direction of travel. Smfh again.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Of the 3 Fairgood boys storyline, Dixon would have to be my favourite. The whole amnesia and starting again with a clean slate sounded like a great setting. Especially when considering what kind of character he was before hand.

Then there's the heroine Anitra Dunhill. A doctor with an almost as wild and unbelievable back story as Dixon.

Sparks fly, bodies sweat, dirty words are whispered then - BAM! Reality is such a buzz kill. Suddenly it's all race supremacy, drag queens, cameras and motorcycles. Well TBH I thoroughly enjoyed that twist.

But I think what really had me hooked was the mention of Rap Star Wives. For those who are following Theodora Taylor's 50 Loving States you will find this mentioned constantly through the PNR section of this author's series.

Despite the fact it is in desperate need of editing (well TBH every book I've read so far in the series needs it) I found this one to be the best in awesome entertainment.

WOW! His Forbidden Bride was a romantic rollercoaster ride from start to finish. Theodora Taylor's stories are always an exciting journey of navigating the out of the ordinary lives of her amazingly well written characters, which gives her books a spot at the top of my automatic buy list of authors, and her latest release definitely did not disappoint. There are so many secrets, twist and turns, and say what moments that you never see coming. Both the hero and heroine have their secrets, and when they all come to life, will the passion that they've shared be enough to help them forget about the past? Well, you're going to have to read the book to find out because I'm not telling! This is another great one for Ms. Taylor, and I give it 5 well deserved stars!
