Survival. You read the word in comfort. Merely a word on a page. But the day is coming when you may meet its black-eyed stare. Young Justin Mahoney - strangely attuned to the sea, and perhaps mankind's greatest hope for survival -- returns in this sequel to the unforgettable Juncture. Reluctant prophet, Justin is joined by characters beloved and new: Marty Haruo, broken-hearted bagpipe player; Amber Giles, beautiful and bright; Jimmy Maas, apex hunter, and biologist Lacey Goodenall, sharp-tongued, strong-willed and grounded in science, until she's faced with a world rapidly moving beyond anything we know. Now nothing is a given. Change is the only truth. And now, not one, but five prehistoric beings; mother and offspring. Mankind's saviors, or the horsemen of our Apocalypse. In the sapphire blue waters of the tropical paradise of Palau, along the holiday coast of Queensland, off the summertime Outer Banks of North Carolina; everywhere, sea stirrings that are clear warnings. Everywhere, largely ignored. Water whispers a lullaby, but it can also scream. A heart-stopping thriller that may not be fiction at all. We are all connected to the sea.
Ken McAlpine’s most recent novel, NEXUS, picks up where the page-turning JUNCTURE left off. Cerebral Jaws and riveting thriller, NEXUS unspools in a world rapidly moving beyond anything we know. Our oceans are changing. Very soon survival may be more than just a word on this page.
Ken McAlpine is the author of ten books; fiction, non-fiction and selected essays. Of his novel TOGETHER WE JUMP, USA Today said, “There’s a beautiful Forrest Gump feel to this book. The main character was a delight and I just loved his sad, wistful, wonderful tale.” His novel "Fog", an eerie maritime mystery that unfolds on the wreck-strewn coast of Cape Cod in 1882, was described by a reviewer as "one of the most intelligent, richly detailed, deeply felt and evocative novels I've read." His non-fiction works include the books "Off Season: Discovering America on Winter's Shore" (a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers selection) and "Islands Apart: A Year on the Edge of Civilization," and several collections of essays.
Ken lives in Ventura, California with his wife and their two sons. He likes to stand in his yard at night looking at the stars, but he does not like to spend any time during the day doing yard work.
Very good book. Loved all the characters. You have to pay attention there is so much going on. Very emotional. Read it if you get the chance. I won this book on Goodreads. Thank you Mr. McAlpine for the pleasure.
