A honeymoon surprise... When vampire Gloriana St. Clair finally says "I do." to her longtime lover and sire Jeremy Blade, she expects there to be a honeymoon. What she doesn't expect is to be whisked away to Sweden where they will have twenty hours of pleasure each long, long night. Sounds perfect except... A sleigh ride in the snow, a picnic in a cave and then there's an ice-quake. What should land at Glory's feet but a man, frozen for a thousand years. He's a Viking and a vampire, cast out by his enemies for the fortune he'd hidden away all those years ago. Company on their honeymoon? No, thanks. But they can't just leave him. When he falls for Jerry's beautiful cousin, it's a disaster in the making. Especially when her jealous husband is a fiendish weapons manufacturer who has created a weapon that could prove deadly for all decent vampires everywhere. The blissful honeymoon soon becomes a race against time, a fight for their lives and a chance to help a fierce Viking prove that some vampires can and should live forever.
Gerry Bartlett figures that vampires are pretty much like everyone else except for the liquid diet.
Eternity or Mexican food? Tough call.
Gerry’s a native Texan and lives halfway between Houston and Galveston. Pictured with her is her late wonder dog, a Bedlington Terrier named Belle.
When she started writing, she was still teaching and used the pseudonym Lynn McKay. You can probably still find her historical and two romantic suspense books for a penny on-line. Now that she’s no longer in the classroom and discovered the fun of writing about vampires, she uses her real name. Too bad some people think Gerry is a boy's name or short for Geraldine. No, it's not. Really.
She's still writing her Real Vampires series but is back to romantic suspense and contemporaries. Her Texas Heat series starts in Houston, her home town. Then there's her Lone Star Suspense series set in Austin where she went to the University of Texas. She loves the hill country there and brought some of her favorite characters from the Texas Heat series to Austin for the fast-paced suspense in the three books in that series.
You can check out Gerry’s website at gerrybartlett.com to find her blog and articles for writers. Her Perils of Publishing gives the scoop on what happens once "the call" comes. Oh, did you think it would be all roses and champagne? Well, of course it is.
When Gerry's not writing, she's treasure hunting for her antiques business in Alvin. Her favorite finds? Vintage purses and jewelry. It's a struggle not to keep it all. Be sure to sign up for her newsletter for the latest info about her books at http://ymlp.com/xgeyeewwgmgw
The title for some reason didn't motivate the start of this book. I'm sorry I didn't start sooner because I thoroughly enjoyed this innovative tale. I can't imagine what is in store for Gloriana. I will definitely be ready for the next installment.
While this seems to be the last installment in the 'Glory St. Clair' series, I can only hope that the author has various spin-off series from this wonderful world she has created. This book takes place during Glory and Blade's honeymoon in Sweden. Of course, their lives being what they are, it is not the 3 week lovefest they had planned. They stumble upon a thousand year old Viking-turned-Vampire that was frozen in time. Once they get in over their heads with this ancient vamp and the drama that he brought back with him, Glory and Blade's friends rush to help them (as they always do) and together they try to uncover the truths and lies that took this Viking from his time and plopped him into theirs. I don't want this world to be over, and other than short stories that I haven't read yet, it seems like this series is completed. Maybe we'll get Flo's back story, or Richard when he fought in the Crusades? What about Ian's history/future? Will Israel Caine find his happily forever after? There's so many storylines to visit, and hopefully this wonderful author will give us more. But, if this series is completed, I'm happy with Blade and Glory's happily forever after. I know I will REREAD these books from start to finish all over again and hopefully, there will be more to discover at a later date.
I have always loved Glory. She is such a unique, down to Earth, loyal character. These books are sprinkled with humor, adventure and love. Thank you Gerry for once again writing more Glory books!
This series just keeps giving, each book is as good as the last. I highly recommend this series. I just Just can’t put them down, looking forward to the next.
Where would you go on your honeymoon if you were a vampire? Somewhere where the nights are as long as possible so you can make the most of your awake time, right? That was Jeremy Blade’s idea when he whisked Gloriana St. Claire away to a castle made out of ice in Sweden, where this time of year the nights are twenty hours long. Other than not liking cold weather, Glory is thrilled with the idea of short days to sleep and long nights with her man.
But on a midnight excursion to an ice cave for a romantic picnic, an ice-quake awakens a sleeping giant, and a centuries-old Viking vampire, encased in ice for over a thousand years, falls into Glory’s lap. Literally. After she and Jerry chip away the remaining ice, they can’t just leave the huge, basically naked Gunnar on his own to get used to the twenty-first century, as much as Jerry would like to. Two’s company, three’s definitely a crowd on a honeymoon. But Gunnar is hungry for blood (he IS a vampire) and revenge and the newlyweds feel a sense of responsibility for him.
When Jerry’s Swedish cousin Gretchen offers to help out, Glory, Jerry and Gunnar get pulled into a devious plot involving vampire-killing weapons invented by Gretchen’s evil husband. Calling on old friends Ian, Richard and of course Glory’s BFF Flo for assistance, the honeymoon for two morphs into a group get-away. “Get-away” being the key phrase. Crashing speedboats, grave digging and deadly shoot-outs round out the regularly planned schedule of disco dancing and sleigh rides.
As for the honeymoon itself? It’s lucky for the ice castle that Jerry booked a non-ice suite because the occasions the lovebirds do manage to spend away from everyone else are so hot hot hot, there’d be nothing left of that castle but a giant puddle.
Global warming? The ice cap and glaciers have more to worry about from Glory warming in Real Vampires and the Viking, a sexy, fun addition to the Real Vampires series. And let’s hope we see more of Gunnar and Gretchen in the future
I really love this series and was heartbroken to find out it was ending. Then Ms. Barlett starting coming out with novelettes and I was ‘YAY!!!’ But I still was leery about how a novelette with a Viking could stand up to the main series stories. But this was WOW!!!.
This is really two stories in one. Glory and Jerry are on their honeymoon in Norway when they discover a frozen Viking. This leads to two stories one right after the other. The first involves Jerry’s cousin and her arms dealer husband. Then #2 is the Viking meeting his long lost family. (This, while an interesting story, feels a little contrived and too convenient.)
Poor Glory and Jerry really have their patience tested as their honeymoon is thrown all to pieces and Glory even wonders if they’ll even be alone back in Austin. But Flo & Richard and Ian are there to help and after a lot of fascinating twists and turns it all works out.
I love Flo. Her fashion sense and eagerness to fight make for a wonderful character. And I love all the shifting going on.
Fave Scenes: 1) the dog sled ride, the museum guard, escaping with the birds, Ian in the snowstorm.
Cute story! Glory's back and this time she's on her honeymoon. Endless nights in Sweden should be ideal, right? But then there's the unfrozen Viking, the evil arms dealer, the psychotic mother-in-law... poor Glory can't catch a break. Fortunately she has her friends to help her straighten out a mess, except that it means they're also on her honeymoon!
Another fun visit with characters we've all come to love and one or two new ones. The villain and damsel in distress could use some more development, but the Viking promises a new wrinkle in the lives of the Austin vampires who were making at least a token effort to leave death and dismemberment behind in an effort to blend!
In typical Gloriana fashion a honeymoon turns into an adventure. Bartlett mixes romance and humor with unexpected plot twists to make a story that's hard to put down.
An amazing story. All the details of a Viking that had been frozen for a thousand years. This is what made this book fun. Every chapter was like another story. Never a dull moment. Thanks Gerry Bartlett.
I love Gerry Bartlett, her books are so different then so many other books with vampires in it. You just fall in love with all the characters and hope that this series never ends.
