You know, normally, a second book in a series is rarely as good as the first one, mostly due to the dynamics of the story arc, the need to develop the story, and balance the world building, and so on. In this case though, I'm not sure this second book is anything but amazing. The story continues brilliantly, the character development is fantastic, and the action is second to none. It's really hard to write an over powered character well, and make the story interesting, besides, but there's no doubt that is exactly what has been done in this case. If you read and enjoyed the first one in this series, you'll thoroughly enjoy this second volume in the series. Lots and lots to love here, and by the end, there's no doubt you want to read the next one. If you're a fantasy person, then you want to add this series to your book list, you won't regret it.

Enjoyed
It’s always hard reading a second book of a series, there’s just not the novelty of exploring a new world, new characters, new... whatever.
For a sequel this is good. If you didn’t enjoy the 1st, then you won’t enjoy this. If you did enjoy the first then, in all likelihood, you’ll enjoy this one.
My reservations?
I’ve found it hard to grasp the magical system, but that might be me.
I’ve found it hard to grasp just how all-powerful Colin is and sometimes he just seems... whiney.
I could seriously do without the attempt by the author to convey nationality accents in the text! I worked out you can make the accent fit any nationality, I started to just give them were from SE Asia. It seemed to work.
I don’t think I’ll dive into the next. I think I need some space to make sure little niggles don’t become grand annoyances.

Enjoyed Mr Woods work immensely. The idealism of sacrificial love of fighting for what is right are often seen as contradictory, yet the reasoning behind the value of all life portrayed in his work is self evident. Now I better get off my soapbox

I like how the story is unfolding and more of their background is revealed, the fight is growing to include more worlds.

The second installation is a little better than the first. There's a little more character and world development. There's still the issue of weird time jumps without much in the way of explanation or telling the reader other than randomly mentioning Colin's age; Quite literally a year or more can pass between chapters. A lot can happen in a year, letting us know what's been going on would be nice.
The action is pretty much non-stop, which is a double-edged sword. It makes for fun reading, but leaves a hole in the story. There's a budding romance between two of the characters that could use a lot in the way of showing how he's falling in love with her (she fell in love with him years ago).
While the punctuation and random capitalization is much better with this book than the previous, he broke one of my Cardinal Sins: overuse of the same word. In one of the last chapters the word "slam" or some variant there of is used like 30 or more times. When the chapters are only 10-15 pages each, it gets REALLY distracting to see the same verb over and over again. Get a thesaurus and use it.

Honestly a bit dissapointing. Whole premise is intriguing but the execution wasn't nearly as good. Lot of times things that were explained in detail get explained in detail again just a few pages later. It was repetitive and redundant and repetitive and redundant.
There were also several inconsistencies and some poor attempts at humor and the use of tropes wasn't done in a good way.
Several characters were introduced that gave a feeling of importance and then brushed to the side and not given almost any attention and basically they felt like a pointless introduction.
I usually read a second book of the series if the overall premise intrigues me even if I have issues with the first book and that was the case here as well, but this sequel failed to fix the ossues I had with the first novel.
I doubt I'll read the rest of this series, it failed to entertain me and intrigue me enough to ignore issues I had with it.

This sequel to Soulguard was not disappointing, and perhaps was even better. The action, intensity, and emotional turmoil was non stop. Once again Woods weaves a fantastic story . The subtle humor thrown in makes you laugh out loud... several things about airplanes- you'll get it once you read the book. Really looking forward to the next book in the series as well as any future work. You will read this in one sitting garaunteed.

Solid second book, the secret is out, Soulguards are known now and all Hell is breaking loose.
Good thing Colin is bringing his own brand of Hell to the Kresh, for he is the Life Ender.
Seriously though, good continuation of the series...more action and more characters are introduced. Hoping for a book 3 soon!

Can't wait till the next book
I love it when the hero is human. I mean yeah they kick butt, but that is not all there is to them. This is just one of reasons I can not wait till the next book. Just to see what happens to this human hero.

Great book
Love the continued growth and development of the story. I can't wait for the next book read this one way faster than I normally do. I just couldn't stop reading.

I read the first book. I like the story, the writing is terrible. The 'Ebonics' type accents and gang story-lines are pretty racist.
