Rate this book
Man has a problem and God has an answer in Christ. How the do we respond? Dr. Graham gives the answer in simple, direct, and dynamic language. But he does not stop with the moment of the new birth, for newborns have a lot of growing to do. Here also is essential guidance to take them further, for they can scarcely realize so soon the potential of the new power God can release from deep within them. Billy Graham was an American evangelical Christian evangelist and an ordained Southern Baptist minister. Graham is best known for his evangelistic missions or “Crusades.” He believed God knew no borders or nationalities. Throughout his career, Graham preached to millions around the world. He met and prayed with every U. S. president from Dwight Eisenhower to Barack Obama.

Graham authored 34 books, including his memoir, Just As I Am. In 1983, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Ronald Reagan. In 1996, Graham and his wife, Ruth, received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest award Congress can bestow on a private citizen.

Graham married Wheaton College classmate Ruth Bell Graham in 1943. They had five children ( Ruth Graham, Gigi Graham Tchividjian, Anne Graham Lotz, Nelson, & Franklin Graham) and made their home in the mountains of North Carolina. They were married for 64 years before Ruth’s death in 2007. Graham died from natural causes on February 21, 2018, at his home in Montreat, North Carolina, at the age of 99.

This was a lovely read. It was full of stories about how people discovered God, and what they did to make themselves ‘born again.’ Each one of the stories was beautiful. It also included definitions and talked about how important it is to have God in your life. However, it didn’t really have tips about how to be Born Again until the very end, so it’s a process to get there, first you read the stories and some bible verses that go along with it and some biblical stories and the end it’s the same way plus the tips on how to make yourself born again. It’s a beautiful read, it just takes a long time to get to the whole point of the book.

Satan's power was broken at the cross. ~ Billy Graham ("How to Be Born Again", page 117)

Jesus replied "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." (John 3:3, NIV)

The above Scripture is the basis of this book; however, Billy Graham goes into detail of what it means to be born again and the common errors that people have about what it means to be born again.

God used this book to draw me to Himself when I was 15. I am thankful to Billy Graham for his simple presentation of the Gospel. Years later I gave this book to a Hindu colleague, because of it's clarity. I'd say that everyone who wants to introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to their friends would do well to pass it on!

This book lay the fundamentals of the reality of the only True God who loves humans and who is busy trying to save them from a certain destruction and make them realize they can start living an immediate abundant life.

Billy Graham is quite possibly the most respected man in the Christian world, at least in my opinion. I have many of his books, and I am trying to build an entire collection. In his book, How to be Born Again, Mr. Graham gives practical advice for new Christians to aid in their growth. But there is also much information that can be gleaned from a seasoned Christian as well.

Listen to this quote from page 145, Chapter 11 (The New Birth) "But as Christians we need to do something about social injustice, slums and ghettos. We cannot sit back with the attitude that the problems are too overwhelming or insoluble. We need to get involved in helping to make this world a better placeto live for the unfortunate who standard of living is so low as to defy imagination, and for those who live under terrible political oppression." (end quote)

This quote reminded me a little of David Wilkerson's The Cross and the Switchblade. (If you haven't read that book, please do.) Becoming a Christian is more than having a name on a church roster, attending church on Sunday or the potluck on Wednesday night. It is getting your hands dirty to help others. But before any of that can happen, you must know Christ, your salvation and everything that entails.

How to Be Born Again shows accepting Christ and then walking the way he did while he was on this Earth and what we need to do until he comes back. It is a natural progression that only comes with complete devotion and surrender to the Lord.

It's always fascinating to think about this possibility to change one's own life radically,
Encourage not to lead our way with our "rational" mind, but to give importance instead on our heart, faith, and intition.

I bought this book up at a library in the Adirondacks. It was written in 1977. I was born in ‘76 and was amused that the state of the country and world in 1977 was very similar to the world of 2023 (China and Russia threats, terrorism, murder in cities, etc). I remember watching Billy Graham specials when they were live on television. It was a big deal when he would do addresses. I always admired that he was non-denominational. His message was always crystal clear and he peppered it with fascinating anecdotes from people he met during his crusade. I was not raised “Born Again”. I was raised Catholic. As a teenager and young adult, I read the New Testament. I have read it a few times. It is an easy read and the term “born again” needs to considered in how it is used in the Bible. The Bible also uses the term “saved” which I appreciate because we all need saving. This book is a step by step understanding of being a Christian written to be understood by all.

No one gives out the righteous Gospel like Billy Graham. I am thankful that he wrote so many books, leaving us with a rich legacy of honest, untainted, preaching.
