There is a world around us that most people don't take the time to see.

Mara Stone's world was shaken, but she is a fighter. Facing new adversaries, Mara learns what it truly means to protect the magic. As she starts to rebuild her life, the web of her family's secrets continues to unravel. Now, Mara faces the fear of losing everything she holds dear.

When Mara and Cole find themselves in the cold world of Snowstrum, they will have to choose either to be true to their promise to protect the magic, or to follow their desires. Magic may not be enough to free them from the icy fortress that holds them prisoner.

Marnie Cate is a writer of coming of age and urban fantasy novels. Born in an Irish mining town in Montana, she always had a flair for the dramatic and a vivid imagination, and spent her childhood lost in the elaborate worlds she created with the help of her dolls.

One day Marnie Cate was struck by a powerful image in her mind. This seed created the world of Starten and the complicated world of goddesses and their touch on the mortal world.

Inspired by the actress Dame Judi Dench, she pursued her dream of sharing the stories that were brewing in her mind. With the urging of friends and family, she wrote in every spare moment she had.
After countless weekends spent at the local coffee shop typing away and people watching, Marnie finished her first novel, Remember: Protectors of the Elemental Magic. With the world of elemental magic and the humans they lived in released, the stories have just begun.

In addition to the Protectors series, Marnie has written her first women's literature books with A Broken Girl Collection. Chasing Caitlyn and Forgiving Ginger dives into the hard subject of how life's pain shapes us and how we can break the mold.

When not writing, Marnie enjoys reading, coffee and spending time with her family. She lives in Arizona.

This is the second book in the Protectors of the Elemental Magic series. My review of the first book, Remember is here.

This was a truly magically story and in so many different ways. But first, let me go through the picture at the top. The tree is the entry point to a secret underground world. A kingdom of snow covered land ruled by the evil Snowystra. To the left are the two main characters. When Cole is taken by Snowsystra, Mara pledges to go after him and bring him home.

With help, she enters via the tree and is welcomed by the guardians who want to eat her. Luckily she escapes into the winter wonderland.

The castle is the home that Cole has waiting for her so they can begin their new life. Being the Protector of the Elemental Magic, Mara has to use it to rescue her beloved, who thinks it is where they truly belong and he wants her to join him.

Can she bring him safely home? Well, you will just have to see. The evil is everywhere, hidden behind the beauty. And Mara’s first port of call is to address the terrible conditions where the people are forced to live in the underground caves. A contrast to those who live above.

Magic and fantasy is something I didn’t think I would enjoy, but I loved this. The author creates such a wonderful world that addresses good and evil, people, creatures, and places are brought alive with superb descriptions. The story has everything to keep a reader mes

*This Series Only Gets Better*

EXIGENCY can be read as a standalone, but it is much richer when read collectively with its series.

I am so impressed with this story. It has everything you could want - love, betrayal, murder, romance, and more! Nothing is predictable - you have curve balls constantly thrown at you as Mara Stone not only learns where she's come from but discovers where she's going!

A winter goddess who wreaks havoc on those unlucky enough to attract her favor.
Magic that's natural and powerful.
Lovers tested and brought to a precipice... Who will survive? Who will fall to their death? Who will be PUSHED over the edge, broken and discarded?

This series is reminiscent of the WICKED LOVELY series, except IT IS BETTER! I love the characters, the detailed world imagined by the author, and the continual revelations. If you love fantasy, fae, magic, and adventure, then I recommend this book for you! I recommend this SERIES! I've already made room on my book shelves for the entire series because it is a MUST HAVE in my personal library!

As is often the case with a good series, this book was even better than the first. The plot continues to twist and Mara finds herself in a much darker and more dangerous situation than any she's been in before. There were many moments when I found myself holding my breath as I tried to figure out what was going to happen next. Where the first book was all about vivid and beautiful imagery that set a safe, warm, and cozy environment, this book is no less beautiful in its descriptions of a cold, desolate, and isolated landscape. Highly recommended and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Enchanting, enticing and exiting!!! Loved it!

From start to finish, the characters drew me in. I really enjoyed getting to know more about Liza and Mae, and their back stories. Ms. Cate brought her readers on a real journey to another place with this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We met new family members and friends who helped Mara, and some who Mara helped. Where and what will be next for Mara and her family? I have no idea, but as soon as Ms. Cate has it available for pre-order, I'll be there.

This sequel picks up from the first book and moves right along. The characters are still great, with the addition of some new side characters and a wonderfully evil baddie.
I love the author's descriptions. The magically odd things on this world are super cool, and they're described so you can picture everything really easily.
The sacrifices made for loved ones are very touching, and I was rooting for Mara the whole time. Even when it seems all is dark, cold, and lost, her love and devotion overcome it all, and it was really very great to read.
Great sequel!

Really enjoying reading the series

The world building has come extended further in this book , I can see parts of our old world but it is definitely a new place . The characters are being well fleshed out, and have begun to feel like friends . The series still remains one that I could hand to even somebody who was 13 and 14 because there are no scenes that I would feel uncomfortable with them reading , and that is rare in fantasy books these days . Really looking forward to the next book in the series .
