I'm so excited to have finally accomplished a goal I first made half my lifetime ago--to complete the entire Bible in one year. All glory to God (and to my husband who helped immensely with his gentle wake-up calls consisting of a warm cup of coffee), but the effects are truly life-changing. It seems cheeky to "rate" the Bible, but as far as editions go, this was a nice one. I like the KJV, and this NKJV has updated old English such as bowels being straightened and such-like terminology. This includes footnotes with any textual variants, so when teaching a Bible study, I knew when the ESV or NASB readers would be different. I was grateful that when the NT quoted the OT, a footnote gave the reference. Unfortunately, the OT wouldn't cite where it was in the NT, so I had to go open up the verses and label my own cross-references. But this is not a cross-reference Bible. I loved the journaling space on the side and frequently wrote sermon notes from church there; I was only annoyed with their beautiful journaling verses, which took up my own writing space. But most of the time, that didn't bother.

But as far as the Living Word itself, I grew so much this year and am only motivated to go on and grow more.

Love the illustrations, and the room for notes not in other Bibles. I just love this Bible.

Read in parallel with my Great Adventure Bible while listening/reading along with the Bible in a Year podcast through Ascension Presents and Father Mike Schmitz. He read from that one so I did too but looked at this Bible to see the different translation, sometimes one word can change a verse, or help you understand it better. I’d already read a bunch of this one but finished it up through the podcast.
