Todd McFarlane is a Canadian comic book artist, writer, toy manufacturer/designer, and media entrepreneur who is best known as the creator of the epic occult fantasy series Spawn.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, McFarlane became a comic book superstar due to his work on Marvel Comics' Spider-Man franchise. In 1992, he helped form Image Comics, pulling the occult anti-hero character Spawn from his high school portfolio and updating him for the 1990s. Spawn was one of America's most popular heroes in the 1990's and encouraged a trend in creator-owned comic book properties.

In recent years, McFarlane has illustrated comic books less often, focusing on entrepreneurial efforts, such as McFarlane Toys and Todd McFarlane Entertainment, a film and animation studio.

In September, 2006, it was announced that McFarlane will be the Art Director of the newly formed 38 Studios, formerly Green Monster Games, founded by Curt Schilling.

McFarlane used to be co-owner of National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers but sold his shares to Daryl Katz. He's also a high-profile collector of history-making baseballs.

Listen, Todd isn't the best writer but hell...if look at the pictures it's not too bad.

Joking, this is pretty fun volume. It's basically Spawn having enough of this bullshit of his wife stuck in hell, goes down there, and says to the devil you better back the fuck up off my wife or I'ma kill you. And then they fight. This whole volume is just one big fight really. If you ignore the dialogue, it's not too bad.

But yeah it's fun and dumb, ripped straight out of the 90's. Atleast the action is a blast to view. A 3 out 5.

Pretty good! So this continues after Spawn: Resurrection, and if you weren't informed, Al Simmons is back! So in this volume, Spawn goes to Hell to fight Satan and get Wanda back, simple! The whole book is one amazing fight scene, and the art oh my gosh the art! The artwork is cool because it depicts hell exactly how you would expect it to look like, and the demons look cool, its every Doom fans dream! The story, although simplistic, is actually well written, and its just damn good fun! There also some really great moments here, like making fun of Todd Mcfarlane's spider-man artwork, a whole issue of just Spawn killing demons, from page to page, and best of all we get to see Violator come back! Overall, I'm really enjoying Spawn!

Wow. Incredibly badly written. Not just a terrible tissue thin story but bad grammar, syntax, spelling... everything. Mistakes on almost every page. Truly mind boggling that something so flawed can make it all the way to the final printed page.

Take this lesson to heart fellow creators: no matter how rich you get, how many books/issues/episodes or films you sell, never be your own editor. Hire someone who isn't afraid to tell you when you're wrong and listen to them.

This volume was pretty weak and predictable. Even the art felt rushed.

I can't believe it had been five years since I read an issue of Spawn. Time really does fly!

This story arc has mixed reviews, but I found it pretty good. It has Todd McFarlane teaming up with Eric Larsen on art and writing, and to me the art collaboration came out really nice. It was cool to read a comic book that LOOKS like a comic book, if that makes any sense. "Image style" has a bad reputation, and in some cases that reputation is well-deserved, but in this came it was the good side of "Image style."

The story harkens back to the very early issues of Spawn, which was cool to revisit. The God/Satan showdown reminded me of the God/Satan fight year ago in Savage Dragon, but other than that this was a pretty cool climax to an important part of Spawn history. Namely, the fate of Spawn's wife, Wanda.

When this series ends up we have some pretty major changes in the Spawn character, which was refreshing as so many comic storylines just maintain the status quo. I'm curious to see where thing go from here.

Erik Larsen takes over the book for a while here writing it with McFarlane and drawing it with McFarlane doing inks. With McFarlane as the inker, Larsen's stuff looks much better. I found Larsen's writing refreshing as well. It turns more into the punchy-punchy and far less of the endless introspective exposition blocks. Wanda has been sent to Hell leaving Al to get her out. Don't think about any of this too much because it won't at all hold up. Like somehow the big M on Spawn's chest is somehow a map into Hell. That is just incredibly dumb. It does feel like there's more retconning here as Spawn has had this end battle 3 0r 4 times now at this point.

Spawn has been a fun comic again after Al Simmons return since Issue #250. Spawn Satan Wars gives you on what you would expect from a Spawn comic. This comic has Spawn going to Hell fighting an army of Demons and Satan himself. You get really cool artwork and tons of blood & gore. The story in Spawn was never high art, but that's what makes Spawn fun. If you enjoy Spawn or what to see what Spawn is like in full action, give it a read.

Not the strongest of Spawn stories but is still a very enjoyable read.
