When Ben Sloan announces he would order a mail order bride, Lily Morgan marched right up to him and slapped his cheek. Then she turned and walked out the door.
Lily had been in love with Ben since forever. But one night something horrible happened and Lily was forced to end their relationship.
When Lily pushed him away, Ben left for over a year. Now he was back, determined to woo her until she realized they belonged together, even if it meant pretending to order a mail order bride to make her realize once and for all they belonged together.
Would the two be able to settle their differences or was there more to this story, something sinister and dangerous that may get someone killed?
Lily loved Ben but he did not consider himself a good candidate for marriage. A new player came into town and opened a new hotel with all the amenities of the big city-indoor plumbing with showers and bathtubs. No more outhouses and depending on hotel staff to bring in buckets of heated water for the usual bathtub. This new player was Byron, but having the best running water in town did not mention mean his hands were clean.
It turns out that Byron was involved in illegally having livestock that had been stolen, having his cow hands change the brand on said cattle, and selling the altered cattle as his own, an offense punishable by hanging. Byron did not get back to town for the wedding. Justice is swift in the old west.
Lily was relegated to working as a saloon girl after her parents died. However, she only served drinks instead of "entertaining" men. In the last book, she was the woman that Dawson went to in his drunken stupors while battling his nightmares. I really didn't like Lily then, but she redeemed herself in this story 😁
Ben is Dawson's older brother and he has loved Lily since the first time he laid eye on her. Ben knows in his heart that she loves him as well. He's starting to realize she's hiding something from him. Now he only needs to try and figure out what has her so scared to accept him as more than a friend.
I liked the book enough to finish it. I didn't feel it was written as well as one and two of this series. It did not keep my interest, but that might have been me. I do enjoy Cyndi Raye's writing and will continue to read her work. I do not find a few off color statements or words to be offensive enough to stop. I am not sure, but I do not think she advertises to be a Christian author. I say that because I feel some of the previous reviews I read were not fare. I find her work to be sweet and for the most part a wholesome enjoyable read.
This is a sweet western romance, and the characters and plot is excellent, but the writing needs editing because there are better word choices at times. I really try to overlook the mistakes but some of them are a nuisance. I will continue to read more of the Is in this series. Happy ☺reading 📚!
The story was a good one, but unlike books 1 & 2, the writing and dialogue seem stilted to me. It just didn't pull me in. Lily, Be, Byron and even Addie seemed flat.
This series is so exciting. This story is the best one yet. Very exciting and lots of action. Lily and Ben are a couple in love but lily has a dark secret that she is hiding to keep Ben alive.
I am enjoying this Wichita Falls series all the characters and story lines are good and hold the interest to the pt of not getting anything done.....They are hard to put down.
Love conquerors all! Lily is being blackmailed and her love's life is being threatened! I really enjoyed the determination of both Ben and Lily! He to win her hand and she to preserve his life!
Being blackmailed, a town in need of a Sheriff, a new modern hotel , and a couple so in love with one as other that the past was keeping them apart. This books starts off where the last be ended. Although you get to know the town people and town by reading these in order they can be stand slides as well.
