Luke Christodoulou is an author, a poet and an English teacher (MA Applied Linguistics - University of Birmingham). He is, also, a coffee-movie-book-Nutella lover. His books have been widely translated and are available in five languages (with more on the way). His first book, THE OLYMPUS KILLER (#1 Bestseller - Thrillers), was released in April, 2014. The book was voted Book Of The Month for May on Goodreads (Psychological Thrillers). The book continued to be a fan favorite on Goodreads and was voted BOTM for June in the group Nothing Better Than Reading. In October, it was BOTM in the group Ebook Miner, proving it was one of the most talked-about thrillers of 2014. The second stand-alone thriller from the series, THE CHURCH MURDERS, was released April, 2015 to widespread critical and fan acclaim. The Church Murders became a bestseller in its categories throughout the summer and was nominated as Book Of The Month in three different Goodreads groups. DEATH OF A BRIDE was the third Greek Island Mystery to be released. Released in April, 2016 it followed in the footsteps of its successful predecessors. From its first week in release it hit the number one spot for books set in Greece. It was BOTM in the group Mysteries and Crime thrillers and chosen as one of the best mysteries for 2016 by ReadFreely. MURDER ON DISPLAY came out in 2017 and enriched the series. Luke Christodoulou has also ventured into ‘children's book land’ and released 24 MODERNIZED AESOP FABLES, retelling old stories with new elements and settings. The book, also, features sections for parents, which include discussions, questions, games and activities. He is currently working on the fifth book of his planned Greek Island Mysteries book series. He resides in Limassol, Cyprus with his loving wife, his chatty daughter and his crazy newborn son. Hobbies include travelling the Greek Islands discovering new food and possible murder sites for his stories. He, also, enjoys telling people that he ‘kills people for a living’.
Luke has been on my radar for a while now but this is the first book of his that I've read. The opening chapter sets the scene with the death of a bride to be. As you might expect from a thriller, it is quite graphic at times which is fine for the blood and gore types. On the other hand, the way in which the characters are all introduced at the same time and the fact that the police duo hold their inquiries in the library in an attempt to solve the mystery is very reminiscent of Agatha Christie. I loved the descriptions of Crete and they have reinforced my urge to revisit the island. The plot is well constructed and the book is easy to read so I would thoroughly recommend this book. I'm now going to search out Luke's earlier standalone thrillers. For me, not much can beat a good greek thriller unless it's actually reading it in Greece!
Spooky weather, trapped on an island with a murderer. Police captain, Costa and his p partner, Ioli are on their own to s love this case. I admit I was stunned by who did it, but felt that I should've figured it out.
I’m a great fan of this author and I’ve already read the first two books in this series. This new novel was definitely not a disappointment. I love the way the author sets the book in beautiful Greece and vividly describes places as well as the way of life in this country. Costa, the policeman hero of the story, is invited to the wedding of a cousin of his partner Ioli, in a small village on an island off the southern tip of the island of Crete. They find that the happy occasion they were expecting turns out to be a tragic one The bride is brutally killed the day before the wedding. Costa and Ioli discover that this crime has its origin in the far past, shrouded in mystery and inflamed with revenge. Since both they and the other wedding guests are stranded on the small island due to a terrible storm , it’s obvious that the murderer is in their midst. A spellbinding tale that was fast paced and easy to read. Bravo Luke and thank you for weaving yet another super thriller
Love and Lust and everything in between! At the end of the first chapter I couldn't imagine where the book was going! Then started the running downhill, flying by the seat of my pants trying to catch up part. This story was GRIPPING, and not at all what I expected. Innocent people are not innocent, creepy people turn out to be innocent, love and lust and violence and everything in between. Do yourself a big favor, assemble your snacks, and find a comfy place to sit, you aren't going to want to put this one down until the end!
I really liked books 1 and 2 ...the Olympus killer and the The Church murders. However this book was horrible. I can’t believe this book was written by the same author. It seemed that the author was not proficient in English or Greek. The sentence structure was strange. Weird cliches. Sentences didn’t make sense. The story rambled on and on and on... I don’t think I’ll continue to the end. I don’t really care “who did it “. Maybe finish at a later time. I hope this was a fluke. The first two were worth reading, this one not so much. I think for book 4 I’ll try a sample before purchasing it. It has truly been a slog to get to 71%.
After reading the first two in the series I found this novel was less polished and had many errors in grammar, improper use of words and flow that may have been due to a poor translation. The story was interesting enough and the ending a surprise but would have benefited from another pass of editing. I will be reading book 4 & 5 in hopes this one was an outlier.
I really liked this book. Kept me guessing until the end. Loved the setting especially events happening in Chania. I've been there and had the most fantastic meal so the setting brought back great memories.
Third book from Luke Christodoulou, and third five-star review. It starts in an Agatha Christie-style setting, where your mind wants to guess who did it. But soon the twists in the storyline leave you in shock, not trying to guess any more, but just absorb the events that happened in the past, and unfold in the present. Some readers say they can't put down such a book. For me, things turned out differently. I didn't want this to end, I tried to prolong it, often going back, reading again and again to capture the slightest details. And now that I finally came to terms with it ending, only one thing comes to mind: keep these Greek island mysteries coming...
It was like settling down with some old friends as Costa and Ioli came to life again on the page. This was a page-turner and kept me entertained thoroughly, I laughed, cried, gasped, cringed and felt every emotion under that blazing Greek sun. As always, the settings are delightful, painting such a beautiful picture of Greece and its islands. Even in the storm - it is so vivid and realistic. The characters are REAL. Particularly Costa and Ioli, but even these new family members had their own personality and his insight into Greek families and culture is clearly from the heart. I really enjoyed this.
A rather intriguing story that had me guessing from the start and always getting it wrong. I do love a good mystery and this was certainly that, with great characters that I would like to meet again, a wonderful setting, what more could you want. I loved it and I never guessed the ending which personally I love as to me that is a great mystery. Looking forward to reading the next Greek thriller, congratulations a brilliant writer.
Any book that manages to keep busy me glued to the screen deserves five stars. There is no easy way to explain how much I loved this book. The superb mystery, the Greek setting, the real life characters...I devoured it all...This is the sort of book I call an 'all-rounder'. Like movie blockbusters. It has action, drama, horror, humor, suspense...The whole package. I loved it so much, I bought the previous two entries of the Greek island mysteries book series the day I finished this one.
3.5* stars rounded down to 3*. Once the murder had taken place I enjoyed the book more, but it just didn't grab my attention like an Agatha Christie which it is compared to. A murder on a greek island where a storm prevents anyone joining or leaving the island, I didn't guessed whodunnit. Didn't enjoy it enough sadly to seek out another by the author. I am in the minority from reviews.
Another fantastic book from Luke, that will have you hooked. It was full of suspense and you really don't know who to trust. I like books that keep you guessing and I can honestly say I was surprised when the killer was revealed. Looking forward to the next book
WHILE READING I WAS REMINDED OF THE BOOK “TEN LITTLE INDIANS”. I ENJOYED THE MYSTERY OF THIS AND I LOVE THE CHARACTERS IN THIS SERIES BUT I DIDN’T LIKE THE BITTER SWEET ENDING, I WISH IT COULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT.
