Choices. We all make them. Some are impulsive, made without a second thought while others are careful, planned from beginning to end. Either way, one thing remains true —every choice has a consequence. Shane Davis is good man; a misunderstood one, but a good man nonetheless. Faced with an unexpected and devastating event, a choice was made which left him wounded and rather cynical. Black or white, right or wrong, good or bad is how Shane Davis now perceives the world…until a certain blonde attracts his attention and changes everything. Or does she? Raised in South Boston, Remy Scott hasn’t had an easy life, but she knows one thing for sure. She wants a better life; a life away from those who want to control her and take away her choices. As their friendship turns to romance, bringing new challenges for both, will the strength of their love see them through their darkest hours?

After reading L.M Carrs Giving Trilogy where Shane is first introduced, I really didn't like him much, but now after finishing Casting Stones, I have a very different opinion of him. I love him. I definitely miss understood at first.
Shane and Remys story about finding love had me crying, yelling at my kindle and smiling at the path that they follow to each other. My heart broke a little more after every page, but it was worth the pain. This is an excellent read and I would give it 10 stars if I could.
Shane's reaction at the end was too dramatic and judgmental - me no likey.
It was an okay read with nothing much wrong with it but I just couldn't connect with the characters properly. It doesn't help that I felt Shane was too hung up on his ex, and kept in contact with her a bit too much. Yes Shane and Remy have gone through incredible hardships and I was sad for both of them, but I didn't become invested in this story to give it more than two stars as it was unable to evoke major emotions from me. Casting Stones is not a unique book and there is nothing wrong with that but sometimes I just become sick of reading the same plot over and over again as it becomes annoying and tiresome and unfortunately this is one of those times. However, I'm still going to read the next book because I want to see how everything works out after Remy's 'big secret' was revealed to Shane. I hope he doesn't get so hung up over it, but considering his reaction and the fact it's being left as a cliffhanger, he probably will. He's also likely going to come off as a massive prick which will simultaneously anger the fuck out of me. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
One of my favorite things about L.M Carr's writing is the characters that she develops. In this book we meet Shane Davis again, whom we first met in Giving Into You, I loved his character and was so excited to find out that this series was his story! I absolutely loved this book, 5 stars baby! WOW, L.M Carr gets better and better! Where we left off with Shane in the Giving Series, I felt so bad for him, I wanted his happily ever after so bad! When I first started this story I just loved the background, I could picture it so perfectly in my head! With such a homey, everyone knows your name type of feel, I was smitten! When I met Remy I liked her right away! She is definitely a chick character that I adore! She's got big ones, and I mean in all the right spots, guts and heart! Which is perfect for Shane. We get a taste of Shane little by little. I was determined to find out what makes this man do and think the way he does! I mean one moment I loved him the next I wanted to shove a blueberry muffin up his ass! I'm so excited for you to read Casting Stones and what a perfect title it is! This relatable story was emotionally packed, one minute I was laughing and the next I was screaming! These two were killing me! *wink* I really do love all the emotions! And OMG, the ending.....well let's just say my energy was charged....ready to pounce on the next!
Wow. That was my initial reaction. This book left me spinning. I loved it. I'm shocked at how easily I fell in love with Shane. I didn't like him at all in the previous books. But his story, blew me away and I found myself falling hard for him. I loved all the characters. I adored Remy and her spunky personality, I felt like she could be my new bff! Going in to this book, I knew it would be 2 things. The first was that it would be amazing and the second was that there most definitely would be a cliffhanger; as we know already a second book is in the works. But even knowing it would leave me hanging, I still wasn't ready. I was unprepared. I knew it would happen and I couldn't stop it, but the way it ended still managed to kill me. I'm anxiously awaiting the second half of the story now. That's some serious talent. This author made me love a character I hated and then she gutted me in the end and left me wanting, no- she left me needing more. So much more. So many seeds have been planted, so many unanswered questions still. I need to know what happens to Shane and Remy. Will she be able to redeem herself? Will he forgive her? Will she forgive him?! Tell me now!!! I need to know! I also loved that even though Shane is a character we met in The Giving Trilogy, it isn't necessary to read that series first. Of course, you should because Adam and Mia are great, but it isn't a necessity. I love them. But let's face it, Adam isn't Shane. And Shane isn't Adam. He's more. Way more than I thought he would be. I highly recommend this book. You will not regret it.
Beautifully written, bittersweet story!! This is the story of Shane Davis and Remy Scott. We were first introduced to Shane in the Giving into You Series as Mias's ex-boyfriend. This book is his story and the result of his move to Boston. The result was pure perfection! Shane is perfectly imperfect! He's gorgeous, sexy, ex-soldier turned assistant principal of the local High School. He is also a tortured soul with deep rooted demons that have plagued him and cost him dearly. He moves to Boston to start a new life, and he soon meets and falls for sexy diner waitress Remy Scott. She too has secrets and demons that keep her from having her own life. Their relationship is intense, passionate and gritty, but painful to read as they struggle to make their relationship work. Their lack of fortitude to give up control and come clean of their secrets and painful past is their ultimate demon. Both are looking for more than a feeling of despair, but their fears, insecurities and lack of trust cripple their ability to brake those barriers. Will their will to love each other be enough to survive their demons? Read it and find out! This is a unique, complex read that ends in a cliffhanger, so book 2, please hurry!!
I fell in love with Ms. Carr's debut novel Giving Into You and her writing has only gotten better. We met Shane in the previous series and I had a love/hate relationship with him. Now, I have a love relationship with him. Shane meets Remy and it was almost an insta love but it slows down and you watch the relationship grow and strengthen. So many ups and downs, emotional twist and turns with neither one being completely honest with the other. And then you watch it crumble and pray LM Carr knows what she's doing and that she repairs two people that are worthy of someone's love. Oh Remy, how I can't wait to see her get a happily ever after. I want to scoop her up and give her everything that she deserves and I hope that includes cute little babies! Now I will be impatiently waiting for the next book and secretly wishing that this is only 2 books and not a trilogy (sort of). Not sure my heart can take the emotional roller coaster but excited to be on a journey with them.
LM Carr has done it again!! Shane is every girls dream, so why so unlucky in love? Mending a broken heart and bitter taste left from his last relationship, Shane moves to Boston to start anew. After leaving the military and teaching job behind, he is now the new assistant principal. By chance, as only live would have it, he meets Remy, a waitress at a local diner. Shane and Remy's friendship grows quickly and love soon blooms. Both healing from various reasons, they find they have more in common than first believed. Shane has demons that continue to haunt him. Remy harbors secrets that carry the ability to conjure demons of her own. As Shane and Remy discover, sometimes love is not enough. Although, together, they are perfect, their imperfections may crash and burn them before they ever figure out if their love can fly. Sit down and hold on because LM Carr takes you on a soul searching, angsty ride that'll leave you having to have more!!!
Shane and Remy meets by chance, at a local diner where Remy works..although at the beginning she’s all attitude she likes this gorgeous man.. Appearances can be deceiving and soon they both learn things they have in common and how much they enjoy each other company. Shane has demons haunting him and while he tries his best to contain them, what happened in the past and his broken heart still condition his present. Remy has a bad family situation and caring for her mother means that she has to do things she doesn't like and things she is ashamed of. They both have secrets and share is not so easy, just like the trust in each other and other people. I felt for them both..because the past and their situations are not easily handled..but I kept cheering because obviously they are good for each other... Are their demons stronger than their love? Seriously, read this story and find out what happens...can't wait for book 2!
Holy bananas I LOVED this book not because I'm from Boston (my hometown) but because I couldn't put it down! I thought I was going to still hate Shane Davis after reading him in LM Carr's Giving Trilogy but NOPE... I love him. Remy Scott and Shane both have there skeletons in their closets but will it ruin their relationship? We'll have to see! And the cliffhanger..... Come on LM Carr....I need, no, I demand book 2 now!!!
After reading L.M. Carr's Giving Trilogy where Shane was introduced, I was very excited and interested in finding out just what makes Shane tick. We get to know so much about him in this book but I definitely feel as though we are not done yet. I will admit I am definitely falling in love with Shane if I'm not already there. There is so much more to him and I can't wait to learn everything. And Remy, she is sweet but she has it pretty rough. She is definitely hiding something big, you can just feel it. In fact, they are hiding so much from each other you wonder if they'll ever get to a place of truth. We know they have chemistry for days and are so hot and steamy together but can a relationship really survive when there are so many lies between them? This is a two part story that ends on quite a jaw dropping cliffhanger so I am so glad I have the other to start reading right away. This is shaping up to be another awesome series.
3.5 stars After meeting Shane in The Giving Trilogy I was looking forward to his story. It’s a lot different that I expected. He has more darkness in him and his past than what I was expecting. Remy is very damaged as well. They both have issues and secrets they are keeping from each other. And even though some of them are revealed slowly I pretty much figured where book one would end. I didn’t like how judgmental Shane was towards certain things (especially at the end) but I understand that it was needed to a point for the storyline. And I would have liked Remy to be a bit stronger. I think she forgave Shane’s actions to quickly sometimes, without much explanation from him (more so in the beginning). But I am liking forward to getting answers in the next book.
I think this story line had potential. I like that the characters have such different backgrounds but they find themselves together. As the reader you know what's going on with the characters but the characters hide their true selves from the one you are suppose to be most opened with. I don't think the characters fully connected with each other and that's what prevented me from connecting with their story.
This story has so many twists and turns you will be dizzy at times and just wanting these 2 to wake up! Both Remy and Shane deal with their own past demons and it really conflicts with their relationship. Through every page you turn you find yourself with all the ups and downs that you really want these 2 souls to have their happy ending. If anyone deserves one it’s Remy and Shane.
This book was an emotional journey you must read. Shane and Remy are just looking to get through life unscathed. They both hVe made decisions in their past that have left them broken. It’s what they do once they have fallen in love that had me yelling, crying and laughing. This is another masterpiece from LM Carr that you should not miss. I cannot wait to read the next book.
Shane Shane Shane... he gained a small spot in my heart in Adam's and Mias story . I was so happy to hear he has his own story to tell. This book makes u want to jump in and hold him and help him fight his demons. The end will leave u holding you breath and wanting to jump right to the next book.
Main characters: Shane and Remy. Remy works at a diner. Shane is a frequent customer at the diner. Shane is new to Boston and is the assistant principal. Remy lives with her drug addicted mother. Remy goes to night school working for her masters. The dialogue between the characters is juvenile. Remy's character is bitchy and defensive. It's clear Remy hates her life. Remy seems to be envious of other people's success.
I'm in the minority with my opinion of this story. I saw all the 5 star reviews and expected spectacular. I purchased this book based on the reviews, the cover, and the book blogger who suggested it. I'm extremely disappointed with my purchase. This is the first read by this author. Having not read the first series I was newly introduced to Shane. Shane is not that fascinating of a character.
Both characters suffer from mood swings and high and low moments. Each has a trigger that sets off red flags that are constantly ignored. Sex is the key factor in this relationship. The sexual banter is unflattering and at times offensive. Each character behaved defensively to the others actions and words. This relationship is doomed. They seem to think sex will fix their problems.
I’m a twenty-six-year-old taking care of my forty-three-year-old-mother who needs to live with the choices she’s made, but a part of me feels responsible and even a bit guilty. This is a quote from Remy. While this statement had potential the story did not deliver the type of story I envisioned. You’re working hard to get an education and do something with your life. You’ve overcome and beat the system. Shane's quote. Again great advice and a great accomplishment yet Remy's character is ladled with doubt and insecurity. Not to mention Remy lives her life for others. “Were you thinking about sex?” Quote from Jenna. Yes, all the characters think about sex and infer it with offensive words. These characters are juvenile and inappropriate with the dialogue and references towards sex. When is it ever ok for a parent to state to your sons girlfriend that she should join him in the shower? Or when should you allow your sister to assume your girlfriend gave you a blowjob in the car in front of your parents house while your sister is holding her daughter? These characters are ladled with jealousy and anger issues. Remy is secretive and evasive with her past. Remy is layered deep with issues. These two play a game of hot and cold. Jealousy is always at the forefront. These characters have too much baggage. The story did not hit its mark for me. It is part of a series with this one ending on a cliffhanger. I'm not even going to entertain the idea of reading another book from this series.
What stuck me first about this book is the quote in the very beginning which is:
“… He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” John 8: 7
I think about this quote weekly if not more. I find this very true with our political candidates and the judgemental comments that they sling at one another. The anti abortion groups who cast judgement without understanding the views of those who are pro-choice and quoting from the bible but missing this important verse. Also they miss that we are all given our own free will to make choices and bad choices will have consequences and atonement.
Remy has grown up in deplorable conditions that no one should have to live through and especially a child. The choices her mother made have directly effected her mostly in negative ways but made her stronger, determined and striving to finish up college to make positive differences in other people's lives.
Her mother has continually increased her debts she is unable to pay back putting Remy into precarious situations. She has been hurt by those who were supposed to protect her that she is closed off when others try to get to know her and get close to her.
The diner that she works at she meets Shane who she is drawn to and he to her. She doesn't feel like she is good enough for him or anyone. He would never want a girl like her.
Shane hasn't had an easy life with an absent father. He joins the service to be deployed twice and things happen over there that he can't forget. He suffers from PTSD and suffers survivor guilt.
There are things in their pasts and present that they do not confide in each other which causes tension and arguments. They know they should discuss these things but they never seem to be able to divulge these things.
I recommend you read this book. I really like the dynamics between Remy and Shane. They are both strong yet they feel weak from the things that burden them. What happens when Shane learns about Remy's mother and the way she lives her life? He has strong beliefs which he doesn't view as being judgmental but the beliefs are what is right. What happens with Shane and Remy when he finds out what she had been doing Friday nights (Girls Night Out)? I can't wait for the next book! Must Read!
Oh Shane! After reading The Giving Trilogy I wanted to hate Shane but something in him resonated empathy and a feeling of being misunderstood. To me, I felt choices aren't sometimes what they appear- sometimes they are forced upon us and we really had no control in a decision we have made but still suffer the dire consequences. Shane represents that to me with his time in war as well as the one night in a bar. Both consequences have brought Shane to Boston where he is reluctant to truly move forward from what he sees as his failures in life to a life with love and joy.
Remy is a spunky one who has had her life of troubles. The things she has not only seen growing up but experienced first hand, and at the doing of her own mother, are horrendous. There is still so much unknown and hinted at in this book that I found myself so intrigued into Remy's life and wanting to fight for her and make her life better myself. She is unlike Shane in many ways in that she has experienced so much evil and had to do some terrible things to survive that she understands the world is not completely black and white that there can be not just a thin line between the two but a vast gray area that you get lost in it. As Shane and Remy get to know each other and friends become a romance things are coming to light to demonstrate that gray area more and more.
While rooting for Remy and Shane to be together, knowing they each deserved to find not just love but genuine happiness, a fear was setting in as I read this book knowing Shane would discover Remy's secret. As any truly wonderful story like this is told, a cliffhanger. Shane, please do to Remy as you would have liked Mia to do for you. Listen, see her side. Remy, please don't judge what you think you see with Shane and talk, ask, it's not black and white and girl, what are you going to school for- don't just learn, use it! LOL! I kinda got invested in these two and I am so anxious for the next chapter of their lives. Ok, not the next chapter, the next book!
Casting stones is book 1 in the Stones duet by LM Carr. In this book we meet Shane and Remy. They have a wild trip in their relationship. Remy has had a rough life to say the least. I just want to grab her and give her a hug. Shane is going through some trauma from his time in the army. Together they are explosive together. I love how I have become emotionally invested in these 2 awesome characters. They both have secrets that can potentially shatter their HEA. Will they be able to get past the secrets and trauma plaguing them?!!! This story is a 5 star read!!!!! Quick FYI: If you read the Giving trilogy by LM Carr then you would have been introduced to Shane.
"He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." L.M. Carr has done it again. She has created another breathtakingly beautiful story! I can't wait to find out the rest of Shane of Remy's heartbreaking story! Shane Davis started out in The Giving Trilogy (which is absolutely amazing). He made a detrimental mistake and it cost him the woman he loved. I didn't hate him then but I didn't love him either at that point; now however..... I can definitely say I love Shane! Over a year has passed and he has moved to Boston to start a new position as assistant principal. Let me just say that if I had an AP like Shane back in my day, I would have done whatever I could to be reprimanded in his office every day!!! =) Shane is an absolutely beautiful person inside and out. Although he's complicated at times, he has a good heart, is strong & sexy, and is a fun loving man. He was deployed twice while in the Army and has demons that haunt him every day. He starts his routine living in Boston and is knocked off kilter by the beautiful Remy Scott. A waitress at the diner he goes to every day, she totally captures his attention! Remy Scott is one hell of strong woman! She continues to struggle with the tough life she has been dealt but is determined to come out on top. A distraction from the gorgeous Shane Davis isn't in her plan, however, she can't deny their connection and the sparks that fly between them. She has demons of her own but Remy and Shane's relationship grows into something beautiful and an all consuming love. However life is not simple, nor black and white and when secrets are revealed, will their love be strong enough to guide them? When the stones are cast, will they be thrown right back?
After reading the Giving Trilogy we got a glimpse of Shane so I was excited to see him get his own book, but I can honestly say I didn't like his character, he is way to judgmental and controlling he just couldn't redeem himself and I was really hoping through out. I know Shane has had it rough coming back from war and losing his girlfriend which he has a hard time letting go and it also seems he was fighting trying to control pats, even though we aren't sure that's what it was. He hid all these things from Remy which he was trying to build a relationship with but at the same time he's telling her she shouldn't have any secrets. His character was just nerve racking and I was hoping he would turn my opinion around.
Remy is so spunky her life has been anything but easy.. I had a connection with her off the bat and so her grow through out. Her life has been one no one should have to live, she was a parent to her parent, she has indured more than most kids. I found myself rooting for Remy to turn her life around, she was hiding it from Shane she didn't want to taint him with her past, she saw a future with him but a turn of events changed that and Shane showed his true colors. It was left in such a cliffhanger I really can't wait to see where this goes. I was really rooting for this couple because regardless of there obstacles I believe they needed there happy ending
I realized today why I didn't read Casting Stones... It is because of Adam Lawson, from L.M. Carr's Giving Trilogy.
We first met Shane Davis in "Giving in to You".... I suffer from this Loyalty Complex with my Book Boyfriends! Seriously! I read another series that I LOVED and I refuse to read the alternative ending to this day because of my loyalty to the other character!
I'm really glad that I made an exception on my "Book Boyfriend Integrity" because I was missing out! Casting Stones is a GREAT Story.
Even though it's fiction, it can happen. The characters are Realistic. Shane is not a Billionaire, he is a hardworking man who is very easy to fall in love with. Remy is genuine. Yes, she is beautiful but she is not someone who depends on anyone. She worked hard for everything she has.
In Book One, I fell in love with falling and being in love. The get to know you stage is always fun.
L.M. Carr showed us the reality of dependency. How sometimes we are blinded by our own love for someone that we do not see that helping and or protecting them is actually enabling them to become more dependent instead of being independent. She also shows us the truth of the dominos effect secrets and lies will do to a relationship.
Honestly at this point, I am NOT happy with Shane. But to be fair, Remy could have avoided the severity of the explosion!
I am jumping into Book 2. I have faith in L.M. Carr that she can restore my love for Shane Davis.
Will their will to love each other be enough to survive their demons? Read it and find out! This is a unique, complex read that ends in a cliffhanger, so book 2, please hurry!!
I agonized with Remy as she worked to create a promising future, but the circumstances she is trapped in continuously drag her back to the life she so desperately wants to leave behind. Shane has his own secrets, his own struggles but he wants Remy.
Wanting to know more about these characters and what made them tick drove me to read late into the night and avoid lunch break conversations so I could get answers! L.M. Carr kept me guessing right till the end. I believed that the story would go one way and suddenly, plot twist, we were somewhere else. It took a lot of self control to keep me from offering the characters advise aloud. The book does not end happily and hopefully we won't have to wait long to find out more!
This is the first book I have read by L.M.Carr and have since been informed more of Shane's story can be found in her other series. I'm looking forward to reading L.M. Carr's Giving Trilogy while waiting for the second half of Casting Stones.
So two damaged, secretive people meet and fall in love and all is well.....not so fast, this is a book by LM Carr so its not going to be that easy! Shane was a jerk to Mia in The Giving You Trilogy (if you haven't read it you should, amazing!) And I wasn't sure I wanted to read about him. But he is so good!!! Hot, alpha, damaged, loving, lost...and so much more! Remy is tough because she has had to be, she is desperate for a new life, afraid to love, but she needs it so much it will break your heart! These two together will make you shake your kindle or throw your book!! One minute you'll be mad at Remy the next at Shane because they both need to communicate!!!!I was yelling for Remy to JUST TELL HIM!! Then yelling at Shane JUST TELL HER!!!
Of course, yelling aside, the writing is amazing, the characters are well developed, and I'll be anxiously awaiting for the sequel!!!
