4,75 sterren - English Ebook - I have dyslexia - I had to read the second novel in the Carter Devereux series. The cliff hanger in book 1 made it so.
- Carter had to get the nuke research going again, and there where two expeditions to plan ; one to the city of lights and on to North India. -
The tence is on in this second book of the series. I realy did not like the fact if I had to do the laundy, and all the other tasks I had to do. I Just wanted to read!
Carter is the only one who survieved the exploition in Jerusalem. So it seems for quit some time. The wolfs make them believe their is an other outcome. But who is the mole ?The turn in that part of the book you would not have thought off. At least I didn't. It was over 600 pages and I kept on reading!
- Ahote laughed when Carter told them. " So now you're going to turn into Rambo. ". -

First let me say what this is NOT. It is not an extension of the “Rossler” series even though one of the main characters is an archaeologist. It is action paced and tells a story that might be happening right now.

The main characters are involved with a secret government agency “A-Echelon” that is more secret than the CIA. They are tracing information hidden in ancient digs that may indicate that earliest ancestors might have had expertise in medicine and warfare that we are not aware of. This may remind Ryan fans of his previous books. The difference is that these searchers are US government driven. Because of this they have all sorts of backup when needed. Of course there are other “bad guys” searching. And there is also a mole in “A-Echelon”.

I like the characters in this new series. They are young, educated and rich. This makes an interesting mix.

There is a prequel, Nothing New Under the Sun that I read first. Knowing what I now know, I wish I had read this book first and then the prequel. You may want to know as much as you can about the characters first and might check this out. Warning it has the “granddaddy” of all cliffhangers.
The good news is you can start reading Wolves of Freydis immediately if you plan ahead.

This book meets all my wishes for a good book. It has a prologue that drags you in and doesn’t disappoint. It has clean dialogue that lets you paint your own word pictures. It can stand alone but hints at a future volume that you can choose to read.

You will not want to put this book down.

First read "Nothing New Under the Sun" so that you are familiar with the characters. You will grieve with Carter Devereaux over the cruel loss of his wife and son. You will disrepair with Mackensie through her months of captivity and being forced to continue her research for the enemy with constant threats of harm to her son. You will rejoice at James resolve to keep gathering information which finally leads him to the conclusion that Mackensie and Liam were abducted and not killed in the explosion. Things really begin to heat up when they begin to get their first clues on who is involved and it escalates quickly up to one of the highest offices in the U.S. Most of all, you will be thankful for the wolves of Freydis who came to Mackensie in her sleep and helped her through her disrepair and who constantly comforted Carter a d gave him the resolve to keep going. Also, the astounding Archelogical discoveries by Professor Devereaux continue to astound the world. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

The Wolves of Freydis A Carter Devereux Mystery Thriller, Book 2, this is a fantastic listen, I always thought book 1 was great but this one goes to a higher level.
Beautifully written with a strong storyline - characters feel real with depth and the descriptive scenes of Freydis are wonderfully descriptive. Tension biulds throughout the book.
Narration is excellent and very easy to listen too. Smooth and grips you with the storyline.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my own request, and voluntarily leave this review.
To sum up this is definitely a book to read/listen for all lovers of this genre , one of the best.
And it's going into my re-read pile - not many books make it there.

I was very excited to continue this series, unfortunately this book seems to be nothing more than hasbara propaganda. On the surface it seems the author has done a lot of research about the Middle East but it's clear that research is biased at best. I find it hard to believe that someone exploring past civilizations would have so little awareness of the true history regarding Jerusalem and the surrounding area. I wasn't even going to finish this book but an impromptu camping trip without adequate wifi left me without other options. I was quite literally grinding my teeth at the small but obvious inaccuracies which kept adding up.

A spellbinding incredible novel! Deserves 125 stars.

This was my first Devereux novel and I plan to immediately go back and read the first. One is immediately immersed into the story and that immersion doesn’t let up until the end! When I finished I felt as if all of the characters were personal friends and I could feel of their anguish, anger and fears! The actions of those involved caused heart palpitations, great anxiety and tears! I loved the interactions with the wolves, and truly believe animals “know” and have intuitions we can’t begin to comprehend. A MUST READ for everyone .

Carter Devereux is a world renown archeologist and he is working with the U.S. Government trying to determine if nuclear weapons existed prior to any prehistoric time. This same thing is being investigated by some unsavory people and they are trying to be the first to discover this. Carter's wifer and son are believed to have been killed in a blast which left Catter injured. This is where the fun part starts. There is a lot to keep you turnng the pages and get your mind working overtime. A very interesting book to read. This was the second in the series and now I am well into the third. Really great author.

Action-packed Mystery Archeology Adventure

This is a suspense and action filled story of archeological discoveries, terrorists, spies, soldiers, Seals, wolves, ancient writings, and hidden problems. There is a touch of romance and a touch of mysticism in some of the subplots. It is a complicated wonderful, cross-genre novel that keeps a reader's attention.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AS BOTH AN INDIVIDUAL BOOK AND AS A SERIES

Archaeology & Spies?

This is a story that will make you cry one minute and yell with joy the next.. This normal family is headed by two incredible Drs. Both scientists working on top secret government projects. How they are tested and come thru is uplifting. It covers Canada, Americans, Israelis, and other middle eastern countries.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I can't wait to read his next.

Really loved this book! J. C. Ryan's The Wolves of Freydis (Carter Devereux #2) was riveting. I just could not stop reading last night until it was finished. It was a real nailbiter. I love the characters (including the animals), the "archeology", the action, the suspense, and the humor. Ready for #3!

Really great

What good, well written book. I've really enjoyed these first two books by J C Ryan. Great story, plenty of mystery as suspense. I'm really looking forward to the next book, and all the others he has written. Keep them coming.

Could it get any better!

An amazing read. If the first book was really good, this one is even better. The intrigue, the pain and heartbreak all contribute to what an excellent read this was. Don’t take my word for it. I’m ready for book 3.

Best I have read this year! Highly recommend!!

Very good plot. Intricate as can be. Many hours of great reading. These two books have really been fun. Descriptions of the characters and scenery were detailed. Could maybe have used a little more humor.
