Jayden was not born on the planet, never really belonging. Reaching adulthood at sixteen, he was given an opportunity like no other, the chance to become a Void Fighter Cadet. That will mean leaving everything he knows as well as his dream of becoming one of the Cheych, the fierce warriors he grew up around.
This is a story of both magic and tech, NOT working well together, so there is magic (the Source) on the planets, and tech ruling the Void above. This is also about Empires and swords, destiny and politics. Lastly it is about a young man trying to discovering who he is.
The concept of a fantasy/sci-fi sounded good but the execution - not so much. DNF @ nearly a quarter way (and that was with some fast-forwarding) ... largely due to peculiar sentence construction, frat-boy dialogue alongside a slightly jarring writing style.
Another good series begins. Jayden, who was brought up by the Cheych, enters the Laren Academy to become a Void Fighter and Laren hates the fact young Jaden is adept in using the Source. He graduates from a four year program in a year, mostly by accident.
