Rate this book
Every A Book of Over 450 Breeds packs in a lot of information. Illustrations, text, charts, tables and icons make it an ideal reference for all dog lovers, who will enjoy flipping through the pages. The over 450 breeds are thoroughly researched and represent canines from around the world. They range from rare breeds for the dog lover that wants something different, to the favorite breeds that make for a reliable choice. There are ancient breeds and modern breeds, including the "designer dogs" that have become so popular in recent years. The over 450 breeds are organized into various categories, such as type (which share loosely common ancestry and traits), purpose, and more. For example, Spitz-Type Dogs typically have thick and dense fur, pointed ears and muzzles, and puffy tails that curl up and over their rears. They descend from ancient breeds that came from Arctic regions. Spitz dogs include the Akita, Canaan, American Eskimo, and the Pomeranian. Each breed is described on one page and includes these Every A Book of Over 450 Breeds is a fabulous reference. In addition to the hundreds of breeds of all type, origin and purpose, the book includes the many designer breeds developed over the last couple of decades, making it undoubtedly the most up to date and detailed breed book currently available.

great lil book. lots of info. something you should probably check out if you are buying a pure breed or know what your dog is mixed with. it will make some thing clear. for instance dogs that nip often are most likely herders. guardian dogs need very good training or they may might bite a stranger. companion dogs probably don't like being left alone very long. sport dogs may kill small animals. hounds have a great sense of smell. things like that. cool pics. cool factoids. cool layout. i just looked at the pics mostly.

A fantastic book about dogs! It was very informative, and I learned a lot about a bunch of different dog breeds. I recommend this book to anyone who likes dogs and would like to learn more.

This is a fairly nice book, especially for a beginner. It has a wide variety of breeds, however the quality was brought down by poor editing. I was constantly noticing grammar and spelling errors, along with mismatched pictures and phrases that were repeated several times.
A decent book.

A comprehensive of the different dog breeds we have so far. It has a clean and aesthetically pleasing layout that makes it easy to read and understand. There are also photos for each of the breed, along with size charts and a short description that includes common health issues for the breed. Definitely recommend!

Please don’t read this book for dog breed advice. Most of these breeds are not real breeds and are just random concoctions of dogs. It would suck to read a profile and like the dog and then look them up to find that it’s not actually a breed…Also, some of the pictures don’t even match the dog it says it is.

Although this book is pack with facts I found various grammar and spelling errors. Also there was no key to help readers understand the graphs and icons.

I was pleasantly surprised by my interest in this book and by the neat compact informative design of this title about dogs. I'm not really a dog person and haven't owned a dog in 50 years. However I found this book very interesting and spent much more time reading it that I expected or intended.

The variety of dog breeds is amazing. This book tells you most anything you might want to know about dogs including which breeds are easiest to train and which make good pets to be around children.

The names of the breeds are interesting: Vizsla, Kuvasz, Jamthund, Cesky Fousek, Sarplaninac, and Schapendoes. Did you know that a Jamthund (also called a Swedish Elkhound) will face and stand up to a bear and Rhodesian Ridgeback will hold a lion at bay? The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever's bark is know as the "Toller scream," a, "high-pitched, howl-like, singing sound." Some breeds like the Chippiparai are very rare and in danger of extinction.

The Czechoslovakian Vicak rarely barks but communicates in the ways such as body language, grunts, and whining. I'm sure we all know dog owners who should have one of these instead of the dog they currently own. The Aidi, or Atlas Mountain Dog is quite common in Morocco but rare in the countries. The virtually hairless Xoloitzcuintli, or Xolo, once the sacred dogs of the Aztecs, is not emotionally mature until two years old and needs protection from the sun and extremely cold weather. The New Guinea Singing Dog has a melodious howl, and have paws that rotate enough to allow them to climb trees with thick bark. The Fila Brasileior, from Brazil, walks like a camel, moving both legs on one side at a time, giving it a rolling lateral motion.

If you are a dog lover you might already know all of this, but there is probably more to be learned about dogs from this excellent resource.
