"Clive had set her free; from her apprehensions, from her past, from her future, and from all else that wasn't this moment. And this moment was all she wanted now."
description

Chasing Eva is a light contemporary romance reader's delight. With likeable characters and an intriguing plot, this debut novel certainly packs a punch. This is the first novel in the trilogy.

description

Eva Avery is a young professional who is striving to run her father's company. Although she wanted to be a chef, her father's passing left her "heir" to the company. After a successful start leading the interior design firm, things begin to crumble. Someone doesn't want Eva's company to succeed.
"God, she was beautiful."
Clive Stanton is Eva's biggest clients. The wealthy playboy is frequently featured in the tabloids and flourishing financially. When Clive's company threatens to break the contract, Eva is left floundering. It is when they meet that Clive discovers Eva is "the one who got away".

description

As Clive and Eva form a friendship, fire is ignited between the two. While romance is blooming, Clive finds out that someone is trying to cause Eva's business to fail. With Clive's background in the FBI, he secretly teams up with his old crew to try to keep Eva protected and discover the culprit.
"It had been only a few weeks since she'd first met him, and already he was turning out to be hard to resist."
description
"I have a gift for you."
Told in third person (dual POV), Chasing Eva has likeable characters, an intriguing plot, and plenty of steam. The relationship between Clive and Eva develops rather quickly, and although I enjoyed the chemistry between the two, I am looking forward to more depth in their relationship as the trilogy continues. The supporting characters were probably my favorite element of the read as Eva's friends and Clive's siblings enhanced the plot nicely. Additionally, the tempo of the read was well paced. At times, Eva made some very predictable choices that didn't mesh with her "strong/young professional persona". At times I did want to throw my kindle down and yell "don't go in the woods..." and yet, I still enjoyed her character. In the end, the conflict with Eva's company is left unresolved, however, rest assured, Clive and Eva's relationship is left in "HFN Heaven" at the conclusion of this first book.
"You need to stop running away from me."
description

Overall, I enjoyed Chasing Eva and look forward to watching this series develop. I think contemporary romance readers who like "low drama/low stress" reads will enjoy this tender romance. Clive is a sexy and romantic hero and is paired nicely with Eva. I look forward to reading more from this author!

“Is she…is she that holiday-party Eva? Your first kiss?”...

Eva and Clive shared their first kiss 15 years ago. Now, they will meet again outside the office elevator of their building. Their companies have offices in the same building. Clive remembers Eva straight away, but Eva only recognises Clive from the front cover of a gossip magazine.

There he was, the tabloid hottie, clothed in a dark gray suit, a crisp, white shirt with the top few buttons undone, hair ruffled, and looking straight at them from inside the elevator car.

Clive is apparently a player who never stays faithful for long. He is the kind of man that Eva normally avoids, but lately nothing is normal in Eva's life. She has recently inherited his father’s design company and she struggles to convince everyone that she is capable of such a task. Unfortunately and for no particular reasons her clients abandon her company one by one. Clive's company may follow, but Clive wants to give Eve another chance.

A flight with a helicopter, a romantic dinner, meeting the family and talking about past events will bring Clive and Eva closer.

“C’mon Eva! We know you’re looking for your Mr. Right, but while you’re at it, why not also have some fun with this Mr. Slightly Wrong?...

But Clive hides things from her. He hides that he secretly works with FBI and that Eva could be in danger.
Soon Eva will be heartbroken. Her two best friends and tons of ice-cream will definitely help her to cope.

Eva and Clive's story is a trilogy. The first book finishes with a HFN, not a major cliff-hanger.
Overall it is a light, feel-good love story with a touch of mystery and suspense.

Eva had been burned in the past by someone she didn't love, so she couldn't be expected to give her heart to someone and trust that they wouldn't burn her too, could she? Well, this story is all about her not having a choice. We can't choose who we love or when we fall. Protecting ourselves only puts off the inevitable for so long and Eva learns that right quick. After giving up her burgeoning career as an executive chef, her dreams of owning her own michelin star restaurant, Eva takes over her father's interior design business after his unexpected death. But things aren't so simple. Someone's out to sabotage the company, she's falling in love with a playboy, and she's found herself a little bit out of her depth. Good thing Clive had no intention of letting her fail. He wanted to be by her side, he wanted to have her back, and he would protect her against all enemies whether she liked it or not!

While I didn't love Eva, I admired her for trying to keep things together. I loved the way the relationship between her and Clive grew and blossomed. Together these two were one hot tamale and I couldn't get enough. With bits of suspense thrown in, this new-to-me author has got me hooked on this developing story. Who's working against Eva? Will she learn to truly trust and depend on Clive? And will Clive's ex play a larger role in the hidden mysteries of this story? I know I'm staying tuned to find out!

3.75 "is he Mr Right?" stars

Evangeline/Eva Avery took over her father's business of interior design after his passing, even though she finished a culinary school and was appointed to be a head chef for a highly praised restaurant. She's new in the design business and she's learning the ropes fast, with the help of her uncle working beside her.

The things start to rapidly go towards downfall when her company's long time clients start to break out of any furter engagement , ending their contract without any detailed explanation. So even if that would be the trade mark of the business world and if she wanted to stay current in the business she would have to fight for her new clients and to keep her long time faithful ones, one of them being the Stanton Enterprises owned by the handsome, demanding playboy Clive Stanton.

Their mutual attraction is undeniable and even though Eva is trying to fight it, Clive's charm and persistance will tear down her walls, brick by brick…especially when Clive realizes that she's the girl from his past…the girl who got away…
Things are moving so fast between us.

And we've only just met

Or so Eve thinks, as she has no recollection of their first encounter but as things slowly develop between them, and they both sucumb to the carnal passion, the seemingly professional problems appearing in Eva's company are very much deliberate and initiated by an informant, therefore it's been taken notice by the FBI department dealing with frauds…

She's unaware of the danger but with Clive by her side, and him being an ex-FBI agent turned businessman with close connections in the bureau, he keeps things under wrap and not revealing the severity of the whole situation…until the hype of Clive's celebrity status turns into too much pressure and all things crumble down at once…revealing the whole „FBI surveillance/investigation“ with it.

And she feels somewhat betrayed…overwhelmed by it all, by him, by not knowing what is this thing they have between them…
Is this thing between us a part of the covert operation, too

then she bolts, under the explanation that she needs space and time to think things through and to clear her head of unnecessary pressure and to fight off incesurities. Clive lets her go until he decides that she had enough time to herself when he comes for her.
If you didn't matter to me, why would I be standing here at your doorstep having this conversation with you right now.

This was the first book of In light of shadows series and the first book I have read from this author. The story is an easy to read, second chance romance with a suspensful twist but it's also light and somehow carefree, inspite the suspense interwoven though out the story...and most of all it was entertaining but without a firmer grasp to my emotional connection with the characters.

They are both likable but I felt like there was smth missing right there, more palpable, for me to submerge myself deeper emotionally.

Nevertheless, this story is still entertaining and enticing enough for me to want to continue with the next installments, as book 1 leaves us in expectation of further revolving in Clive and Eve's story as it's suppose to reveal us their further course into the relationship and the revelation of that suspensful danger lingering in Eva's professional and personal life.

1st book of a 3 book series. Clive and Eva’s story continues on to 3 books.

Told in dual, third person POV (majority of it being the heroine's), I enjoyed this debut story by this author. The first 50% was sweet and likeable. The last 50% got a little noisy with some of the unneeded extra drama and lack of communication between the MC's (typical trope).

Looking forward to the next instalment in this series and excited to watch this talented new author further develop her skills and kick the next book out of the park.

First book in a trilogy series with no cliffhanger and but some unanswered issues to lead into the next book. Rest assured, there is a HFN at the end of this.

It was instant chemistry, but would Eva find her attraction to Clive magical or would it blow up in her face? The new head of her family’s interior design business is wickedly drawn to the charismatic Clive, but she is about to learn he is the powerful businessman behind her company’s possible demise. Eva knows better than to mix business and pleasure…

CHASING EVA by Camellia Hart is part suspense, part romance and one hundred percent sensual passion as two people discover their adventures outside of the boardroom are heating up faster than the noonday sun.

Clive knows more about Eva than he lets on, and he is determined to end his fifteen-year chase to find the girl who got away. But as their passions reach a boiling point, evil lurks in the shadows, determined to take Eva down. Can Clive’s money keep her safe? Is there more to her company’s problems than meets the eye?

Camellia Hart has created a love story with a touch of suspense on the side as Eva and Clive seem more focused on their ever-growing, ever physical attraction. I think they both prove that even a corporate powerhouse can have insecurities and appetites that are far different from their business persona. Clive comes across as the consummate alpha, in control, sure of himself and dominating, while I just couldn’t buy into Eva’s ability to run the company she inherited.

Lots of heat, lots of passion as a corporate storm is brewing in the shadows…and my Kindle begins to steam!

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

I read the description of this book after I came by the author. One of my favourite things is reading debut novels from authors so I just had to give this one a try.

Eva is a young professional after her father dies leaving her the heir of a company she gave up what she actually wanted to do to run the company but she’ll do everything she can to make it successful.

Clive is a playboy he gets what he wants when he wants except one woman who slipped out of his fingers, the one who got away but he’s about to come head to head with that woman.

Watching Clive and Eva’s relationship transform was enjoyable. It was great to watch.

The storyline was interesting and every second of it was fun to read.

Camellia Hart did a good job with her first novel. It’s an adorable and sexy love story filled with humour. It’s fun and easy to read and keeps you intrigued throughout the book.

Camellia Hart's debut, Chasing Eva, is one of those sexy, fun and yet wistful reads. It's a romance and mystery story that kept me interested on both fronts. We are immediately plummeted into the world of Eva Avery, reluctant heir to her fathers design firm. And we also meet Clive Stanton whose company is a client to Eva's. Initially I felt a giddiness at the prospect of Eva being in Clive Stanton's line of sight. It's pretty apparent she doesn't have the resources to fend off Clive, but who would want to?

Camellia's writing style is solid, with a great story line and dialogue. Clive surprised me as he's deeper than the playboy we meet, then the one Eva reads about after she's had a brief encounter with him. His history in military intelligence doesn't jive up with the role he takes running his families billion dollar company. I kept wondering if the reputation of him as a playboy was a ruse, that maybe he's playing a part in something big and that it's devised to throw everyone off his trail. I like the mystery aspect so I'd like to think it's a possibility, but the story here is about Eva and this fantastic connection between them.

There's some typical communication issues which leads to angst and a bit of drama. I'm not a huge fan of this (why doesn't she just ask??), but it mostly works with who these two are. Eva is careful with Clive but even with his promise of exclusivity she can't help but be guarded. She shares enough that Clive has to know that he needs to prove himself to her. Thankfully Eva has such a wonderful support network with her friends Izzy and Ali and I found that I was just as interested in their lives (drama) as I was with Eva's.

Clive felt genuine to me throughout and his intentions are clear, but still I want more. I'm hoping books 2 and 3 give us more details on him and the promise of Eva in his life. There is still a mystery to solve and I definitely have the remaining books on my TBR shelf. 4.5 Stars and recommendation!

My Review:

He had never forgotten her as she was his first kiss, but now he was a rich playboy often featured on tabloid covers, not someone she would consider as her type. Chasing Eva is a sweet and sexy love story with humor, steam, and broken-hearted ice cream binges among friends. It was a quick, amusing, intriguing, and entertaining read.

I have just finished reading this book and I have to tell you that it has been awesome and that I’ve really enjoyed this book. It’s the first book of a trilogy called: “In Light of Shadows”.

These are the titles of the books which form the trilogy: 1) “Chasing Eva”; 2 “Loving Eva” and 3) “Killing Eva”.

This first is the beginning of the story of Eva and Clive who are the main characters.
This first one is the introduction, the beginning of the story. The plot is about a girl called Eva who has to take care of her father’s enterprise. One day, she meets again with Clive, a business man, an ex-FBI worker who will try to get into her heart and who makes her believe that maybe, after all, she’s finally found her Mr. Right. To work in the enterprise is not easy and besides that, she will be in danger, here begins the suspense… Why? What secrets are behind all this? Will Clive and Eva be able to deal with all this? I don’t want to give important details or spoiler something about the plot.

Characters:

Eva is the female character. She is self confident, tenacious and independent. She’s looking for her Mr. Right, the one who will become the love of her life. She has had a bad experience with love, because she saw how her father cheated on her mother and due to that, her parents’ marriage was ruined. Then, she had a boyfriend (Jake) who cheated on her too. So, she doesn’t trust so much. Her dream is to be a chef, she studied for that, but when her father died, she has to take care of her father’s enterprise. She has got two friends: Izzy and Allie.

Izzy and Allie are hilarious. They work with Eva in the Enterprise. When they appear in a chapter, you laugh… They are really good friends, Eva’s best friends. They support her every time she needs it… They are fantastic.

Clive is the male character. He is handsome, protector, romantic, serious, tenacious… personally, I really loved him. He’s the owner of an important group of Spas and he worked in the FBI too. Seriously, you’re going to love him.

There are more characters, like Marc Marino, Ryan, Dave (Eva’s uncle), Silvia, Carter (Clive’s brother), Claire (Clive’s sister), Trevor… who you’ll know about them while you’re reading. They are also important in the development of the story and they contribute a lot.
Personally, my favorite character has been Eva. Because of her independence, the strength to take care of her father’s enterprise when not all the people believe in her, her tenacity, her determination...

More about the book:

It’s a book that when you start to read you just can’t stop. It traps you since the first page. And when you finish one chapter, you think… “Okay, one more…” because when you finish the chapter, you want/need to know what will happens next.

The love scenes are wonderful, full of sentences which make you sigh. And the suspense moments are amazing. It’s a book that makes you feel part of the story, understand the characters, feel what they are feeling…

About the author’s writing… I have liked it a lot. Because she describes very well the feelings and the characters (physical and emotionally). Besides, she uses words which are close to the reader.

The main themes of the book are: the love (relationship, family and friendship), our past, the consequences of hiding secrets, learning to trust, the betrayal, the appearances, the second chances and also the suspense. By the way, because of this first book is the beginning of the story, when you finish it you realize that there are a lot of questions without answers, which you’ll discover in the other two books. So, it’s a good point to keep the attention of the reader.

I have enjoyed it, I have liked it, I’ve loved Clive, I have enjoyed the characters, the story, the writing… If you love reading books with suspense, love and passion, you have to read it.

I recommend it.

A strong romantic suspense story. Clive and Eva have met a couple times growing up causing Clive to remember Eva all the years. They meet by chance years later and the spark is there. They quickly start a steamy relationship. And then there is Eva's father's business that she has to take over when her father dies. She was an up and coming chef and had to halt her career to work in interior design. This part of the story I didn't like. I felt it was wrong that Eva's father expected her to leave the job she absolutely loved to take care of his dream. But there is something going on with his company. Even though this was a decent size book, it was a quick read. Very enjoyable. I do get a little tired of men who feel they have to dominate. Also, I'm a little frustrated that something in the story didn't get resolved but I won't say what.

I won this on The Reading Room website.

Evangeline Avery is taking the reigns of the interior design firm that her father founded. Still sad from his death and completely put off with relationships, she does not expect to be charmed by Clive Stanton. Clive has a reputation as a ladies man who lets them go after a month of their company. Evangeline is not sure she needs the distraction as Clive is one of their clients and someone is spreading rumors about her company and she is striving to keep the clients she has.

Clive knew about the rumors with Evangeline, but when he meets her face to face he realizes she is not involved in the rumors. Clive wants Evangeline, he doesn't do relationships but he wants one with Eva. Trying to get Eva to trust him is another matter all together, especially when he is hiding something from her.

Charming. This story had a bit of mystery as well as plenty of romance. I liked Clive, he is a bit of alpha male and Eva keeps him on his toes. This story is part of a series, no cliffhanger but it does carry on to next book. Great read for putting your feet up and relaxing.

Not since Ednah Walters’ Runes series have I found myself so engrossed in any book. Camellia Hart strays from the normal chase in romance and presents an incredible chemistry that is unsurpassed. Two people who have had so much pain in their lives after been torn apart as children before finding each other again many years later as adversaries in business is a delicious mix which is absolutely intoxicating from start to finish. Should this book ever be published in print, I will most definitely be adding it to my home library. Chasing Eva has the perfect balance of love, loss, triumph and defeat, leading to the most feel-good adventure in any romance. I recommend this book to readers over the age of 15 years who enjoy the thrill of a well-written novel that completely transports them into the world of two people who will do whatever it takes to get their happy ending.

I've had the pleasure of reading this lovely book thanks to the amazing author who sent me a copy in exchange for an honest review :) and I have to say I really loved it :) it is a great debut novel, and let's just take a moment to look at this beautiful cover :) so pretty... :) but back to the actual book... ;) it's the first installment in what's going to be a trilogy about the same set of characters... but don't worry, there's no cliffhanger at the end that will make you scream and want to throw your book / e-book reading device, cause let's not discriminate people... ;) against the wall ;) it's more of a we-don't-have-all-the-answers-yet kind of a situation :) and that makes me that much more curious about what's gonna happen in the next story... ;) because this book is definitely not only a romance... oh no ;) it has a mystery in it as well... dun dun duuuuunnnnn.... ;) #NoShame, this moment needed a musical interruption ;) I'm not gonna tell you exactly what it is, but I'm gonna give you a hint ;) *coughs* corporate fraud *coughs* ;) so now that we have these basic informations out of the way, let me tell you a bit more about the book itself ;)

Let's start with Eva and Clive... what I love the most about them, is that they are both adults who are actually acting like adults :) and no, it's not as obvious as it should be in books... ;) Eva was a chef, but now she runs an interior design company she inherited after the death of her father... so she's a busy woman :) Clive also runs the family company and he's a busy man as well :) so it's only natural that the romance part between them actually takes place over some amount of time... :) which I absolutely loved... :) what usually bugs me, is when in books once our main characters meet, suddenly there's nothing else going on in their lives besides the romance... which is ridiculous ;) so I adored that both of them actually kept busy and didn't just throw away everything aside just because there was this connection between them :) and what a connection it is... ;) they do have issues of their own to get through... I don't want to say too much, so you can discover all of the details for yourselves while you read it, but I love their banter and interactions :) it was sweet and lovely... and then definitely hot in all the right places ;)

Besides our main couple, we have a bunch of secondary characters that only add depth to this story :) I'm not gonna name all of them, but believe me when I say, that a lot of them made me laugh in the most unexpected moments... in a good way of course ;) I can't say too much, because some of them turn out to be important in surprising ways, so I don't want to spoil you guys... you'll thank me later ;) but I have to mention Ali and Izzy :) they are best friends with Eva and I absolutely adored both of them... :) I don't know if we're gonna get to know even more about them in future installments, but I would love to see their own HEA... ;) if not in this trilogy, then maybe in a spin-off book or two... you know, just throwing this idea out there... *wink wink* :)

Overall I absolutely loved this book :) I wasn't sure what to expect from it, because to be honest, you never know what's gonna wait for you in a debut novel... :) but this one definitely wasn't a disappointment :) the writing style was really good, the characters and connections between them felt real and honest, which in my opinion, is one of the best compliments for a writer :) I had a great time reading it, and now I can't wait for the sequel :) cause it was so much fun and I absolutely need more :) especially since besides Eva and Clive there are tons of secondary characters that I need to know more about :) it's hard for me to say more without spoilers, so I'm gonna just say this... if you are looking for a fun and definitely interesting read, go check this one out :)

I even have a few quotes for you guys today :) not the ones I really wanted to share with you, cause they would be way too spoilerific, but some others to show you a little glimpse into that story ;) happy reading :)

A little bit of Eva and her feelings about her cheating ex ;)
"She realized the general theme of the things she liked to do all somehow concluded in loathing Jake.
One: running, as in away from Jake.
Two: hanging out with her friends, as in to forget Jake.
Three: cooking, as in to poison Jake.
She cringed. How did her thoughts get so morbid?"

And another one from Eva, this time about Clive ;)
"Why was he smiling? Of course, he looked sexy smiling like that and he seemed to be smiling as though he knew she thought he looked sexy smiling like that. Stop smiling."

Part of a conversation between Eva and Clive :)
"They stopped at a traffic light, and when she glanced to catch his gaze, he was looking at her. 'You're beautiful, Eva."
She swallowed, unable to decide how to respond. And then she asked, 'Is that what you say to all the women who sit in your car?'
He smiled as he started to drive again. 'Not all of them,' he teased. 'You're the only one so far.'"

And another conversation with our main couple ;)
"'You're not my type, that's all.'
'And what type am I?'
She gave him a look. 'You really want me to answer that question?'
'Why not? I'd like to hear what you think about me.'
'Fine. I think you are good looking... quite the charmer, and... a genuinely nice guy.'
'But?'
'But you have a reputation with women. Of course you don't want to limit yourself to one when you have so many choices. And that makes you so not my type.'
'I see.' He paused as though to consider her evaluation for a moment. 'So... you think I'm good looking?'
She noticed the mischief in his expression. 'That's what you got from everything I just said?'"

And the last one with Eva and Clive ;) Clive first :)
"You let me know tomorrow when you see me.'
Wait... tomorrow? What day is tomorrow? 'We're meeting tomorrow? It's a Saturday.'
'Yes.'
'Why?'
'That's how the days of the week work, Eva. Today is a Friday, and tomorrow is a Saturday. Did they not teach you anything in culinary school?'"

XOXO

Chasing Eva is the first book in the new In Light of Shadows series by Camellia Hart. I Received a Copy of Chasing Eva from the Author in return for my Honest Review.

I Highly recommend this book to anyone who LOVES Sylvia Day & the Crossfire Series!!!

(May Contain Spoilers depending on your sense of a spoiler)

So i'd like to start by saying that it's totally my boyfriend's fault i didn't finish this sooner... it took around 24 hours give or take a little. But it was incrediably hard not to love Clive from the get go.... i mean its not so rare when u meet characters like Clive is made out to be ... you know the ** SUPER RICH PLAYBOY TYPE **

Except from the very first moment i felt there was so much more to Clive ... and with the help of the beautifully written story and its excellent 3rd Person POV the very second we got inside Clive and saw him for who he was i knew, I JUST KNEW god dam it that no matter what i'd NEVER be able to look at Clive in a bad way ..... the passion he displays to us through the writers descriptions for Eva Avery is so intense, so honest and bare for us to see that to doubt Clive at all would, to me personally, be down right MAD.

Here's how i envisioned Clive's reaction in his head when he realised he'd FINALLY met Eva Avery again after all this time

http://gif.co/tjbv.gif

Chasing Eva I was provided a copy of in exchange for an honest review. The book was offered to with a tag “since you like the Crossfire Series.” Anytime I am approached like that I am almost leery of the novel, because two things happen. First, I go in looking for comparisons to the mentioned novel; second, it is hard for me to approach the new novel with a fresh prospective. I go into it with preconceived notions. I’ve seen this more and more when a book series is very popular, and I understand authors wanting to get their work out to a wider audience. However, if I see a book now that compares itself to 50 Shades, there is no way in HELL I will read it. I will almost always avoid the whole billionaire genre entirely, because it has been beat to death after the success of novels like 50 and Crossfire, to which I have read both (Crossfire is the better of the two.)

With Chasing Eva there are some good points and some bad; I like that Clive was given more depth than just a business man. He is ex FBI and Special Forces, so he can back up his alpha tendencies, and isn’t a pansy ass (cough 50). I also liked Eva; she is a strong woman being put in a situation where she is scrambling to get her ducks in a row, and is doing it admirably. I like a strong female, and so far so good. I also like that this is building suspense and I really have no idea who the “bad guy” is.

Now for the bad; the story is overly wordy, and Hart continually explains situations where it isn’t needed. The dialog and the progression of the story explain where and what the characters are thinking and feeling; yet we are constantly being reminded, with inner monologues, why they are reacting the way they are, it isn’t necessary. I can deduce for myself what is going on; I don’t need it broken down. I really started to notice this about ½ through, and it started bothering me.

Also, one thing that I noticed from the start of the story is the plot felt a bit forced; the characters weren’t driving the story, the author was pushing them where she wanted them to go. There are some things that just seemed contradictory to the basic characters; especially the mock Quid Pro Quo. Clive agrees to re-instate Eva’s company’s contract and wants a kiss in return; this seemed slimy for Clive, and out of character for Eva. The Eva that was described would have nut punched him right then, regardless of the attraction. Or is that just me?

Chasing Eva isn’t bad; the overall suspenseful plot is interesting, yet the wordiness and the author forcing the story, threw off my enjoyment. I am giving it 2.5 Boundless stars. It was good, but it could have been better....Sara

Holy Hell!

I freaking loved this book! I mean LOVED IT! It is on my lost of best books for 2016!

*There may be a few very small spoilers in here*

Evangeline Avery - Eva has had her share of crap when it comes to men. When her father dies she steps into the role of owner for the interior design firm he began. She is dismayed when clients begin dropping the firm and she is madder than hell when one of the firm's biggest clients drop a contract that is necessary to the firm's staying in business. Lucky for her she can make an appointment and head to another floor to get answers.

Clive is the head of Stanton Enterprises, former military and FBI (he's like a wet dream all rolled into one amazing man) and when he gets a glimpse of Eva in the elevator he is drawn to her and the pull is stronger than any he has ever had before. But Clive is a playboy, hit and quit it, he doesn't do love. But something about Eva snags him. Turns out Eva was his first kiss and his childhood crush. His feelings for her are strong and he is determined to have her.

But both Clive and Eva have scars. Deep emotional scars and the story becomes a roller coaster of emotions for them and for the reader! Passion, Love, Sex, Romance. Can they survive it? Do they want to even try and be together? Can their hearts be mended? And this doesn't even bring into play the other elements in the book! Who is trying to sabotage Eva's design firm? Who can she trust?

This is not your typical romance. Trust me it's not! I have read the typical romance and this is so so much more! You have got to read it! It deserves way more than 5 stars! I can't wait for the next book to come out. Yes it's a cliff but oh damn is it a good one!

Holy freaking crap!!!! I LOVED this book so flipping much and I am seriously dying to get my hands on the next in this series. I am awestruck that this is Camellia's debut novel. She did a terrific job writing a story that will have you completely immersed into the book. I could not put this thing down. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how everything plays out and I can't wait to get more. Be warned it does have a cliffy that will leave you of course hanging but I think if she would've jammed it all into one book it would not have been as good as it was. This book had mystery, angst, drama, hot as all get out sex, intrigue, you will love it! I loved the characters in this book, I do hope that we get more background into Clive. He is a mystery at times besides his feelings for Eva.

Eva has hang ups about certain types of men because of what her family has gone through. She has been burned in the past and is leery of putting herself back out there. When she has a run in with the well known playboy Clive she is highly attracted to him but isn't wanting to follow through with it because of his reputation. Clive had a crush on her years ago back in high school and now that she is back in his life he is determined to make her his.

Eva is stressed to the max know that her dad has put her in charge of his company, especially since its something she never wanted. She is losing business and can't figure out what is happening. Clive knows and is determined to find out who is behind it all and to protect her.

What happens when secrets are revealed? Will Eva be able to handle Clive's past when it is in her face? Will they find out who is behind Eva losing her clients?

★3.5 Stars★

Chasing Eva is the debut novel of the author Camellia Hart and the first novel In Light of Shadows trilogy. The story is told in dual, third person (dual POV). It is a good story and easy to read...Eva and Clive are the main characters in this story.

Eva is a professional young woman, very hot and smart. She wanted to be a Chef, but life and fate had other plans for her. She became her fathers' heir and became after his death the owner of one of the prestigious design firm. But someone does not want Eva to succeed.

Clive is Eva's biggest client, an ex FBI agent and a very rich and hot man. And of course, he is a playboy. He is very charming and very determined when it comes to Eva. She is his first kiss and the one girl that got away. He discovers that someone does not want Eva to succeed in her new business so he will be Eva's knight in shining armor.

And then you look at Chris Hemsworth and Oh My God you realise his beard was crafted by the hands of angels in heaven. | 19 Celebrity Beards That'll Sexually Awaken You

My opinion about the book...It is a great story, but something didn't match for me. The relationship between Clive and Eva developed way too fast. Their love, their feelings were too sudden. Clive gets jealous and possessive from the first time they meet. Clive is a playboy, he does not do relationships and the girl he is with does not last a month. But suddenly, after he meets Eva, he is in love?! Hell NO!

For Eva goes the same, she does not think she is worth it for Clive, she runs away from him, and the next time she sees him, she jumps straight in his arms?! Hell NO!

Imagini pentru oh hell no gif

Too much information and too many details. The chemistry between the two characters feels forced and sudden. I did not feel the connection between the main characters, even if the story has a great potential.

Eva gave up her dream of becoming a chef when the untimely death of her father has had her step into his shoes and take over the business he built from the ground up. It’s been a struggle dealing with his death and S. F. Designs.

The hits keep coming when their biggest client Stanford Enterprises is going to terminate their partnership with them. She’s at a loss as to why. All she knows is that this is going to affect them all.

Clive Stanford, former military Vet and FBI Agent, he too gave up his career to take his place at Stanford Int. He never forgot Eva, she was after all his first kiss and crush. Years later though seeing her as the strong sexy woman standing in front of him he can’t help but fall again. That she’s standing with two other woman who are all looking at him with varying expressions on their faces he’s at a loss until he glances down and sees the tabloid gripped in one of their hands. Not his finest moment but he’s not embarrassed either.

Eva’s attraction to Clive is instant, in the magazine he was sexy but standing in from of her? Whew he is drop dead gorgeous. But with her company in danger of losing their biggest contract she has no time to be lusting after Clive. Especially considering he’s one of the owners of Stanford’s Int and from what the tabloids say a player. She’s been burnt before and she’s not interested in going back for seconds.

When her meeting with Stanford’s head designer Bryan does not go as well as she hoped, it’s Clive who sat in on the meeting who throws her a lifeline. One she takes with both hands.

Their romance is slowly building, it’s sweet and Clive ticks all the boxes. He’s attentive and protective of her. He really seems too good to be true.

What Eva is not aware of is that the FBI have been investigating a possibility of corporate fraud around her company. With this added threat overshadowing what’s going on, it makes for an interesting read and one that has you trying to figure out who? All Clive knows is that he will protect Eva with everything he has.

When Eva finds out that Clive knew what was going on, her first thought was “Is this why he was with me?” With a vindictive ex- lover (you get the picture) and a misunderstanding with a tabloid release it has Eva running. Slipping past her security detail. She can’t deal with any of it.

Clive is determined to track her down, with fate and a whole lot of luck on his side, he manages to find her. These two get there HEA, but that’s where it ends. We still don’t know who’s behind the fraud and the sabotage behind the business or who is following her! Hopefully that will be answered in the next story.

I think the leads, Clive and Eva were great characters. They were well developed and engaging. They came from money but they did not act like it. They were normal, relatable characters. The chemistry was hot and you felt it. The girlfriends Ali and Izzy I loved! Every girl needs friends like this.

Clive’s family were great and yes I am dying to know more about them.

The story for me was well written. It didn’t flag or slow down it kept my interest and had me wanting to know more. Though there is a cliff-hanger, it’s not too bad and if you add in the fact the next books out is a bonus. I will be definitely reading the next story, I need to know!!!

First off I have to give a huge THANK YOU to Camellia Hart for allowing me to read and review her book. I laughed so hard at times because these two characters are a riot! I mean poor Eva she has had her fair share of heart break and she has sworn off dating and men. After the death of her father she decides to take over her fathers business. But she soon learns that someone is spreading malicious rumors about the company and she needs to find out who it is and why they are doing it before she loses the business. To add to her mess in walks this sculpted God Clive who is everything she loves in a man but he might be the one spreading the rumors.

As their passion ignites the two have to navigate through it and find out who is spreading the rumors about her business. Clive is something else I love him to pieces because he is a God but he is also loving and compassionate. He has had his eyes on Eva for many years and he will stop at nothing to get her and keep her.

This is a must read that will have you on a roller coaster ride but a good one where you are whooping for joy. I need book two like ASAP to see what happens next. So go on and one click it you won't be disappointed!

Free copy provided by the author for an honest review.

Evangeline Avery gave up her dream of becoming a chef to follow in her late father's footsteps, taking over his well-known interior design firm in San Francisco. It's been quite a transition so far. On top of a dramatic learning curve, Eva also has to face down the naysayers who believe she won't have what it takes to keep the business thriving. It's when one of the firm's long-standing clients, Stanford Enterprises, now run by Clive Stanford--a former FBI agent--tries to end their contract that things get real. Clive had no idea that Eva is the woman he's been haunted by since his late teens. And from what he understands of the questions surrounding her family's business, she could be in danger. That puts Clive into hyper-protective mode, unwilling to let Eva come to any harm, no matter what he must do to figure out the threats against her and her business.

'He felt terrible that he'd done this to her... He had hurt her with his words. He had hurt her with his past. But he cared for her more than he'd cared for anyone before, damn it. Why couldn't she see that?'

Chasing Eva was the sizzling hot, exciting beginning to Camellia Hart's In Light of Shadows trilogy which follows Evangeline Avery and Clive Stanford. Their powerful connection and the intrigue surrounding them was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to what made reading this book a truly great experience.

'Clive was her anchor, her liberator, the only one who had gotten to her the way he had. She craved him, she obsessed over him, he was perfect for her, he was her Mr. Right.'

I found that I enjoyed not only the overall pacing of this story, which moved along at a good clip without being too fast, but I also loved getting inside both our heroine and hero's heads. The dual POVs made me feel like I got to know Eva and Clive quite well. And I loved seeing what it was about each other that made them fall in love: how caring, protective and genuine Clive was and how kind and open Eva was. They made a stellar couple who seemed to really understand one another. It certainly didn't hurt that there were sparks aplenty between them, creating a firestorm of a romance that was so much fun to watch.

The suspense portion of the plot was well done. (I'm still scratching my head as to what and who is behind it all!) The issues Eva faced as she took the helm of her late father's company kept hitting her right up until the end of this book, and Clive got dragged into it--both because of his former FBI background and because he personally vowed to keep Eva safe. I like that he's an absolutely lovely guy who's also a badass. Best of both worlds, right? And that Eva was more than willing to take her own safety in hand but that she was wowed that Clive wanted to be the one to protect her. I gotta admit, the two of them were swoon-worthy.

Hot romance. A storyline with exciting twists. A HFN ending that will make a reader girl sigh. Chasing Eva was a well-written modern story of a couple who--so far--have beat the odds and found a love that looks like it could last. I can't wait to see what they're up against in the sequel, Loving Eva.

Wow, I was hooked from the first page. Although the story centres around Clive and Eva's chemistry and business together, it does have suspense too. Clive has a FBI background which he uses to keep Eva safe and also to find out who is trying to sabotage her business. Although this book ends on a cliff hanger, it leaves you wanting more. Told in dual point of view ( which I love) so you you get to know what each are thinking. You also get more insight into how Clive knows Eva and his true feelings for her. Camellia has done a wonderful job with this book, an amazing read and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

From the blurb, Chasing Eva seemed like an interesting take on the Second Chance and Billionaire Playboy romantic/erotic tropes. However, once I started reading it, I was sorely disappointed. Since it was the author’s first book, I was prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt, but there were too many problems to ignore.

The book starts off with Eva, the heroine who inherited her father’s company, as she’s with her friends. The introduction had too much tell and not enough show, and too much personal information was given away in the first couple of pages. I also managed to forget who the main character was during Eva’s conversation with her friends, which is not good considering her name is on the title of the book.

Then she meets Clive, who gets jealous and possessive the first time they meet in the book. Why does he get jealous? Because he can’t tell if there’s a ring on her finger when he first sees her. She seems familiar to him, so naturally he hires his bodyguard to dig up information on her. It was after this point where I realized I was reading a different take on Fifty Shades of Grey, and this was further confirmed the more I read the book. It also turns out that Clive and Eva met some years ago when they were teens, and at first Eva didn’t remember but then wondered how she could ever forget those magical moments that were never explained in detail other than Clive telling her “Ryan took you away from me”.

Anyway, Eva has recently lost four clients from her company, and was about to lose Clive as a fifth. Clive convinces her to go out with him and proceeds to stalk her for the rest of the book. He also demands a prize from Eva for helping her. There’s also a federal investigation going on that’s handled so poorly that one wonders how it’s possible to write such a flawed investigation with the myriad of popular law and crime shows that most people grew up watching. There’s an informant in Eva’s company giving out information to their clients who then terminated their contracts with Eva’s company. Clive is former FBI, so he’s helping with the case and keeping it a secret from Eva.

There’s a whole bunch of manufactured drama (vengeful ex, keeping secrets, etc.) that was pretty predictable to anyone who’s ever read a romance book, and it failed to make me actually feel like their relationship would end. Romance and erotica have tropes and beats that are easy to predict, but if your writing is good enough to make me feel that they might actually break up for good, I’ll let it slide. This did not happen here, especially with the rushed and unearned Happy For Now ending.

Now onto a summary of the main problems:

The chemistry between the two characters feels forced and comes out of nowhere. They even allow their emotions and hormones to make business decisions. This book reeks of Fifty Shades of Grey, especially with Clive stalking Eva. He carries her into a helicopter after she tells him no, he knows where she lives, he shows up on her vacation with her friends, and he demands a kiss from her when he helps her with her business. If this was dark romance or dark erotica, it wouldn’t have bothered me, but I’ve read dubious consent erotica that was less creepy and had more consent than this book. The sex scenes were boring and technical with unearned intense emotions that weren’t built up well.

The FBI investigation is written poorly. Suspension of disbelief only goes so far, and it doesn’t work when an FBI agent is discussing an active investigation about corporate espionage at a football game. Also, the investigation ends on a CLIFFHANGER. There’s no warning in the blurb about this, and this alone brought the review down to a one star for me. The investigation was predictable, and I knew who the main suspect would be. But when an already boring investigation subplot ended on a cliffhanger, I was rightly pissed. Getting through the book was hard enough, but ending on a cliffhanger and putting the information for the sequel right after is insulting.

The writing style left much to be desired. It felt like a first draft that was only edited for spelling and grammar not content. There was too much telling in the book instead of showing. The book glossed over things that should have been shown, and showed things that should have been glossed over. For example, on the helicopter ride, most of their conversation is summarized. When two strangers in a romance novel are left alone for a while, there needs to be actual dialogue to show how they relate to each other. Their burgeoning relationship should not be a summary paragraph if they’re practically strangers. Also, a lot of backstory was revealed too soon and would have been better if gradually told over the course of the book. Then there were the phrases “He smelled of something fresh and divinely male” and “Her legs looked soft and feminine in those heels”. These sentences describe nothing. More description was needed since it all came across as cookie-cutter and generic with “chiseled jaws” and “muscles”. A good line editor could have improved the quality of this book.

And last but not least, the unbelievable anti-Mary Sue main character, Eva. She is flawed and makes mistakes, but everything turns out alright because she’s the main character. Um…no. Her father leaves her in charge of his company because he believes she can run it. Eva has no desire to run his company and doesn’t know how to run it. She was a successful chef and happy in her career. He father knew all of this and still left her his luxury design company and had her uncle teach her. I can’t think of a business man that would be this incompetent with his business dealings, but it gets worse. After her father passes away, the company stock goes down and Eva is advised by the board members to lay low until everything stabilizes. But she thinks she knows better than the board members of the company she just inherited and does the opposite and gets the company to stabilize on her own. Yeah, no. Advice is a precious thing in business, and I highly doubt a business person out of her element would scorn the advice of board members who know the company better than she does. For heaven’s sake, she doesn’t even learn the term “corporate fraud” until she’s about to lose her fifth customer! This is simply too much suspension of disbelief to ask from readers.

However, this book hits all the right tropes in the romance genre, even if it was executed poorly. If you liked Fifty Shades of Grey and Twilight, you’ll like this book. If you don’t care too much about consistency or an abundance of clichés, you might find this book enjoyable. This review is my opinion only, and it might vary greatly from others. I personally would not recommend it to anyone. It gets one star.

Eva, Ali and Izzy were all looking at a magazine that they picked up while they were waiting for the elevator. When it opened the man who graced the cover was standing there Clive Stanton. Eva didn't want to take over S F Designs because she went to school to become a chef. But her father made her the CEO of the company at the time of his death. Clive knew that he met the girl in the elevator before and when he finally remember who she was, he was determined to help her. Eva was called into her uncles office to see the notice of termination of employment with Stanton Enterprises.
Eva is Robin's daughter, had a dream to open her own restaurant. She has been in a string of bad relationships. Finds it very hard to trust people. Izzy and Ali's best friend. Calvin Stanton runs Stanton Enterprises. He used to be in the Special Forces and the FBI, he is a playboy. He deiced that he was going to protect Eva with everything in his power. Izzy is Eva and Ali's friend. Ali's is Izzy and Eva's friend. Trevor is a former special forces, works for the FBI. He is Clive friend. Carter is Clive's brother, he owns Winerys. Tina is Eva's Secretary. Marco Marino is Jacob Marino's son. Work's at Marino and Sons. Dave is Eva's Uncle, Works at SF Designs. Robin is Eva's father, knew he was being followed, went to the FBI. McKenzie is the captain of the FBI.
This is another amazing read by Camellia Hart. I loved how well this book is written and how well the characters are developed. I found this book very hard to put down. I loved that I also felt very connected to the characters. I can't wait to read more books by Camellia Hart.

Who doesn't dream of being with a successful, gorgeous, and rich man? Clive is all that and more. Eva is beautiful & smart and left her career as chef to take over her father's failing business. Clive falls hard for Eva, but she's seen all the pictures in magazines of him with the many, many incredible women and has heard all about his playboy image, so she's not exactly quick to trust him. I can't help but fall a little in love with Clive myself. Eva is also a very lovable and exciting character as she puts all of her intelligence into saving her father's business.
I think most readers will feel great emotion for Eva and Clive as well. This book is written for adults as there is sexual content.
I am giving a 4 **** star rating to this novel and give it high recommendations to those readers who enjoy a steamy romance.

I read this book in less than 24 hours! For a debut author, Camellia Hart knocked this one out of the park. If you enjoyed reading the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day, then you will love this! The two main characters Eva and Clive, make an adorable couple and you can't help but love them. Actually, all the characters in this book are extremely likeable.

There is a small suspense/mystery aspect. This book didn't end in a cliffhanger, but there were a few loose ends which I assume will be addressed in the rest of the series. I can't wait to read the next one!

Eva Avery gorgeous, smart, independent that became the head of the Interior design firm after her father died. Her dream of becoming a chef was set aside and concentrate on making the firm be on top again after a client threatened to pull out. Clive Stanford is a sexy, suave and a womanizer hero wherein woman hurls themselves at him. Also, the CEO of the Stanford Enterprises who's bound to cut their ties with Eva's S.F. Design.

There's an undeniable attraction between Eva and Clive when they first met. The moment Clive saw Eva, he's smitten not only by her beauty but also the way she carries herself under pressure when she convinced the Stanford people not to terminate the contract abruptly. As they spent more time together expect some scorching scene between these two.

Chasing Eva captivates me right from the start it has romance and suspense. Because someone is out to sabotage the success of Eva's business. I have some suspects but I'm not sure if I'm right though, I guess I'll have to read Loving Eva to see who it is. I enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it to anyone who likes this kind of story.

Chasing Eva is the first book I've read from Camellia Hart and after what I just read, will not be the last! I was intrigued by the blurb and captivated by the story...a story filled with intense chemistry, suspense and drama. This book had me flipping page after page because I couldn't put it down, I needed to know what happened and now with that ending I am craving the next book.
