Despite the fact that she's a witch, Lena manages to lead a boring, repetitive life. In fact, her entire family consists of witches: both her mother and grandmother are one, her aunt knows when you're going to die, her sister is a seer, and her other sister... Well, nobody talks about the other sister.
Even the neighbour's refusal to stay dead doesn't change the routine of Lena's home life. Of course, when one is a witch, things can have unexpected consequences, and Lena finds herself trapped within a magical time loop, reliving the same Monday over and over again. With the help of the undead neighbour's granddaughter, Lena tests the limits of what she's willing to do for there to finally come a Tuesday.
I had no real plan for reading this, until I realised that it was in my kindle library and I hadn't noticed it before. Didn't remember downloading it, even. Good start for a story about witchcraft.
First of all, it took me a while to get into the story. It started off a bit slow and I wasn't certain how I felt about it. However, I pushed through, and am very glad I did.
The prose isn't mind-blowing, and in general it felt a little bit too Y/A for my tastes. Short sentences that fall a bit flat occasionally etc. However the story itself was captivating. I found my curiosity growing with every page and I finished off wanting to read more !
There's a lot of great character development - Lena realising that the little bubble she's grown up in has been holding her back, allowing herself to forge a relationship outside of her family (loved how those feelings towards Nova seemed to grow and Lena being unsure what to do with it!), the growing bond with her sister and aunt and then ultimately a betrayal that leaves the reader feeling quite unsettled and nauseous alongside Lena.
I would definitely love to get some more answers, as this felt like the first book in a series, barely touching on the bigger story.
Overall, a good read to drag along and read whenever, would recommend. :)
