Love strikes in the most unusual places, but can it really take root in a London criminal underworld threatened by Russian mobsters? And can Jess ever learn to trust a gangster like Dean?
Jess. It's time for a fresh start. Time to make amends for all the bad things I've done. The mistakes. All the people I've let down.
But when one good deed exposes betrayals and feuds buried in my family's tragic past it's like pulling at a loose thread. One thing leads to another and then another, and then I'm in too deep and it all leads me to him.
Dean Bailey: part gentleman, part cold-blooded gangster, and nobody's idea of Mr Right.
Dean. I'm sorted. I'm the man. And I'm ruthless.
She changes everything though. The girl. Jess. She just waltzes in here, poking her nose where it doesn't belong. Some cock and bull story about family connections, but I don't swallow any of that.
She's out to get me but I'm one step ahead. All I have to do is give her a bit of the charm, that disarming grin, and say, "Trust me."
After that she's mine. They always are.
Trust: A steamy, edge-of-the-seat romantic suspense thriller from the author of Winner Takes All and Black Widow.

If you're a fan of gangster romance stories with a mixture of angst, action, violence, suspense, surprising twists and unexpected turns you don't see coming, and an ending you don't expect... then Trust is the book for you. Although it was well-written and easy to read, it wasn't for me.
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I was given the opportunity to read Trust as an ARC for my honest review. This is my first book I have read by P.J. Adams. I enjoyed reading it and looking forward to reading more of our books.
Jess Taylor is young and lost her parents in a car accident 18 months ago. She drops out of college and starts to make bad choices. Jess finds out her grandmother's Alzheimer's is getting worse so she goes to vist her grandparents at the nursing home. Her grandmother's mind is set in the 60's and she keeps talking about Eddie Bailey who she was once engage too. Her grandfather just wants to see his wife happy. Jess makes a trip to see if she can find this Eddie Bailey a.k.a a gangster.
Dean Bailey is the grandson of Eddie Bailey. Dean and he's two brothers have taken over his granfather/father's "business". Things are heating up for the brother's. Dean pushes Jess away because he fears she is an informant and not who she says she is.
There are a couple of "oh I did NOT see that coming". Read Jess and Dean's story to see if they fall in love or if Dean will push Jess away because he doesnt trust her.
This book gives you a bit of the inside of the maffia old style. She gets into this by accidant, trying to find an old friancé of her grandmother, she is sucked in my the charm of Dean. What happens between them is so sweet. I like the way he is confused, he doesn't trust her, but he doesn't trust anybody. But he does feel atracted to her and she messes up his mind. I like the way things are happening in the book, getting back at the bad guys. Great read, looking forward to read rom this writer
I got this book by the author for an honest review, along with the other two in the series, and I know I promised the reviews for February (I’m so sorry! I swear I’m trying! ) I’m doing my best and hope to read at least one more this month! So stay tuned for the reviews of the next books in the series. http://thesecretworldofbooklovers.blo... That being said, I loved this book! The fact that the author linked their past to the Kray twins was just another plus that made me feel like this could actually be happening in real life.
It felt like I was part of the story and fell into this crazy and violent world of gangsters and organized crime that took me to the East End of London during the 1950s and 1960s.
Now about the main characters, Jess was a mess; she had been running the last year of her life, escaping reality and not getting attached to anyone, because she couldn’t stand to lose someone again. Then she met Dean, she was starting to get her life together and she found herself in the middle of a war.
Dean is such a hard character to describe; he had an intensity that can’t be replicated. He didn’t trust her at first but when she proved herself it was already too late for him, she was his and he had no idea what to do about that.
Strong gangster who had never let anyone close meets lonely rebellious woman who is known for being on the run when things get tough. And there is no better combination apparently, since they set the pages on fire.
They complemented each other so well that there was no doubt in my mind that they belonged together.
Overall an amazing read! I had a hard time putting the book down!
Omg I was totally in love with this story. I love books about gangs and violence. Also when you grow up in the city you understand about the underworld that most people dont see. I think PJ Adams did an amazing job in creating the story and scene for his book.
The story Trust was intense, from thrills and secrete to deception and betray. From start to end the story kept you guessing about what will happen. I had to keep second guessing myself about the twist and turns.
Jess is a very rebellion young women who lost her parents during a car crash. Losing her parents and then her grandmother taking a turn for the worse. Made Jess run away. Jess doesnt remeber much about what she did and where she went. But one thing she is certain of is she wants to make amends. If her grand mother is still living in the 60's then she will find her ex lover and bring him to her. Strong willed, Doesnt following orders or do what she is told. Jess is a wild person.
Dean, One of the bailey boys. A gentleman through and through but he is just as deadly as the rest of them. Dean doesn't trust any one especially women. Any one gets to close and he pushs them away. He is a very calculated man who doesn't take risks. Every think must be planned before had. Strong deadly and very calm. Not your average crime lord but just as dangerous.
A battler of turf over london between the bailey boys and russian mob. With Jess caught up in the middle as every think starts to go down. Loved Jess and her character how determinded she is and rebeliouse. Past secretes exposed.
This is a wonderful love story full of suspense, corruption, violence and falling for the falling for the wrong person but knowing you can't live without them. PJ has put together a wonderful story that pulls all the right strings when we are trying to figure out a relationship and of course the biggest hurtle is trust. Jess has been trying to put her life back together after her parent tragic and untimely death and she finally decides to visit the last of her family her Gran and Grandad. Her Grandad is dealing with heartache of his own the wife he has loved for years is suffering from dementia and keeps looking for a long lost fiancee and he is suffering through the hurt daily. Finally after taking with her Grandad Jess heads out to find the man her Gran keeps searching for over and over. This leads her to a pub were her parents use to take her when she was young and finds Dean. When Dean realizes that Jess is looking for his grandfather he becomes concerned and decides he needs to keep her close until he finds out her true story. Jess is just as worried about Dean and when she finds out what he does she is not sure whether to stay with him or run for safety, Dean tries to get her to run so he won't end up hurting her. However opposites have a way of attracting. Can these two find it within themselves to trust each other and build a relationship to to make it through. This book will keep you turning the pages to the very end with some real heart wrenching surprises. I can't wait to find out what happens to Owen and Lee.
This is a good story that I enjoyed reading, and as much as I wanted to, I just couldn't love it. I had a hard time connecting with the characters. It has a truly unique plot that I've come to expect from Mrs. Adams books, which is what intrigued me and kept me reading. There are many twists that you'll never see coming, angst, violence, suspense, sizzling intimacy, and an ending that will shock you. Overall this was a really good book, but as I stated, I just couldn't connect with the characters. I did like them but just didn't love them like I have in her previous books. I have read many books by Mrs. Adams and she has become one of my favorite authors. Her storylines are always different and unique, the smooth flow always makes for an enjoyable read, with this one being the exception, her characters are developed and very likeable, and she always has the right balance of angst, suspense, romance, & intrigue to keep you engaged and wanting more. I believe that many would enjoy this book and just because I wasn't able to love it, doesn't mean that others will feel the same. If you're not sure, get a sample of it to see if it's something that you will enjoy. I do recommend this book.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for a honest review.
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book. It is the first book by PJ Adams that I have read and I now want to meet more. Jess Taylor goes for a long over due visit to see her grandparents in an assisted living center. She learns that her grandmother who is suffering from Alzheimers used to be engaged to a gangster leader. Since her grandmother's mind is living in the 60's now, she decides to go to London to try and find the man who her grandmother believes she is still engaged too. There she meets Dean Bailey who has taken over the "business" with his two brothers. There are some twists and surprises in the story. All during the way Dean and Jess fall in love. I would recommend this story to read.
It is a good story about the mob in England. Jess is a young woman who finds out more about her family and their connections to that world when she tries to reconnect with the past. She meets a man who is charming but also very dangerous and has to determine if she is willing to take a risk. Dean is not sure either but he definitely has strong feelings for Jess.
I enjoyed the story. There are some good surprises. The characters are interesting and the storyline definitely keeps your interest. You are not sure what direction it might all go.
I loved this story. I have never really cared for stories about criminals, but this story has made me change my mind. The whole romance was captivating. Two people who have always tried to resist letting others in, find love at first site. Of course part of the drama comes from their combined stubbornness not to trust anyone let alone each other. This really is a must read story. I am really hoping there will be future novels about the Bailey boys.
Jess goes on a wild goose chase to seek out someone from her grandparents past. Little does she know she is about to stumble into a life she thought only existed in the movies. Dean is a sexy intense untrusting bad boy. Together they unravel a web of deceit and learn to rely on loyalty and love. A story full of passion, action, loyalty, a bit of mystery, and a few twists. An awesome ride. I couldn't put it down!!!
PJ Adams does it again, Trust takes you on a fast paced ride into the London underworld. I love these characters they're flawed but underneath it all they have great heart. I couldn't put this book down till it was finished. Just when I thought I knew what was going on the story takes a left turn.
I tried but I just couldn't get into it. I read many mob/ganster type stories but this one I couldn't connect with. Not much of passion just heavy petting.
First time in reading this author with storyline catching my eye. Jess goes out to help her grandmother by delving into the past with people to find out if she can really help or not. Love the line that is read in several places but oh so true that comes out of a man's mouth lol. When she meets Dean one of the Bailey brothers he finds it hard to trust her but the magnetism is stronger then the both of them. There is just something about the two of them and their story that draws you in. Probably that same magnetism lol. You also meet the other brothers with alot of drama that happens in this one building also a foundation for further books. Alot of heat when they come together enought to sizzle right off the pages. In the end does it help the grandparents? That gets answered at the end by reading it.
I really enjoyed this book. The relationship with Dean and Jess was great. I loved how Dean was so old school. It was sad to see the pain that Jess felt over the loss of her parents. Even when she made poor decisions, her grandfather was still there for her. Can't wait to see how the next book plays out.
I chose to read and review this book. I am a fan of this author and enjoy the work a lot. It is well written and the flow is amazing as always. The characters are captivating. This book is very packed with action suspense crime twists and turns romance and so much more that kept me reading till the end. If you're into gangsters with sweetness then read on
This was a surprise that totally sucked me in. This chance reading was enjoyable in a genre I don't normally read. Well developed plot line with likeable characters. It is a relative insta love but is well written and not cheesy but believable.
I enjoyed this book by PJ Adams. The story had its twists and turns with gangs but also a love story between Jess and Dean! You won't be disappointed with this purchase! BUY now.
London gangster book with a sideline of insta-love romance!
Trust is an gangster action romance based in the heart of London’s East End between two rival gang’s. I have to admit, I was surprised how much I thoroughly enjoyed this book and to the author’s credit, how well balanced she gets the romance and the action.
The two main characters, Jess Taylor and Dean Bailey, are likeable characters. They don’t instantly have a connection when they first meet as both are suspicious about each other and their actions. However, it very quickly becomes apparent that there is a chemistry and circumstances force the duo closer, although still wary. I loved Jess’ stubborn streak where she refused to give in and also chose to stop running in order to get the answers she wanted.
One thing I would say is that this is an ‘insta-love’ kind of relationship between Jess and Dean so you do have to be able to go with that notion to be able to get drawn into believing their relationship. It was difficult for me because I liked how the story was panning out, understood the fast pace of the story was needed, and I can see how their feelings developed quickly but when put into context of all this happening in only 24 hours, in some ways I wish it had of been a little bit longer of a period of time, even just another day or two.The other thing that helps with the speed of the relationship, for me personally, is the brief history of the characters’ families, which gave a foundation, albeit only slightly.
This full on, easy to read, addictive, gangster action romance captures your attention from the very beginning with a believable enough plot that you could actually imagine playing out. As a reader though, I never felt like I could fully predict the outcome of the book. The story moves at a fast pace and the whole book only takes place over about three days. Mostly told from Jess’ POV, when you first start reading you aren’t fully sure where the book is going to go but it sets up the story well with a good foundation that comes to light throughout the story, strengthening the plot. The added views of Dean here and there throughout the book help move the story along and give an insight into his actions and thoughts.
Trust is well written and has a few surprising twists and unexpected turns right to the very that you definitely won’t see coming. PJ Adams does a great job of setting the scenes and the descriptions of London’s East End; if you don’t know London it doesn’t matter as the vivid descriptions create a clear image for you. The sexual scenes in the book are written well but don’t go over the top, which is very refreshing. There is also some violence, although not too graphic if you are squeamish.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Trust and if you enjoy a standalone, typical cockney, gangster book with a HEA romance, don’t hesitate to give this book a read!
*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
AWESOME LONDON GANGSTER STORY WILL IT BE A LOVE STORY TOO?
I really love a Bad Boy Romance. Have to say PJ did an AWESOME job with this book. Let me say it is written to keep you on your toes. If you don't pay attention to what your reading you will get lost. Then your left wondering who did what and why they did it. Your reading the book thinking you have it all figured out, then BAM things change in a heart beat. I love a book that keeps me in suspense and makes me feel the emotions of the book. You have a story line that starts out going one way, then it changes directions, and the BAM it changes again. My attention was grabbed at the beginning of the book and held clean to the end. Sign of a gifted author!!!! I definitely will be reading more of her books. Definitely a book that I would recommend to mature readers 18 years of age or older.
The book starts out with Jessica Taylor going to see her grand parents to make amends for how she treated them after her parents were killed in a car accident. She also needed a fresh start from all the mistakes she had made in her life. After the visit with her grand parents brings up the fact that her grand mother was engaged to Eddie Bailey and her grand father had stolen her away from Eddie. After this revelation she decides to hunt him for her grand mother since she can only remember her past in the 60's. Jessica decides to go to the old neighborhood and see if she find Eddie Bailey the head of the Bailey crime family. But when one good deed exposes betrayals and feuds buried in Dean's family's tragic past it's like pulling at a loose thread. One thing leads to another and then another, and then I'm in too deep and it all leads me to him, Dean Bailey. He has the appearance of a gentleman, but he is gangster and that should have told Jessica to stay away. One night with him and she is too deep and she can't get out.
Dean Bailey is the middle of three brothers and the oldest is Owen, and the youngest is Lee. Dean is one who doesn't let girls get in to close to him. He keeps telling Jessica to stay away from him that he isn't any good for her. But she changes everything when she walks into his place of business asking question about things she shouldn't be asking about. She is telling him what he thinks is a bunch of bull about having family connections to his, but he doesn't believe her. He thinks all he has to do is charm her with his disarming grin and say "Trust me". After that she's mine. They always are.
Will Jessica be able to stay away from him, or will she stay and fight with him? Will Dean ever trust that Jessica is telling him the truth? Will Dean be able to keep her safe?
No Spoilers. ARC free book given for a honest review.
I received this for a honest review. WOW, the author done and amazing job. I loved the characters in this book. There are a few surprises and things that will shock you along the way. So when you think you have figured out what is what there is a twist that will surprise you.
Jess Taylor has a lot to learn about herself and her family. She discovers there is so much she did not know. She was more shelter then she knew. Her world had came crashing down the day her parents had died. She found herself getting involved the wrong crowd and even spent time in jail. She was lucky her grandfather was there for her. Now here she is seeing her grandmother with dementia. She goes on search for her grandmother’s old boyfriend and there is were she first comes face to face with sexy bad boy himself Dean Bailey.
The Bailey brothers are one not to be messed with. There are a few surprises along the way that Bailey brothers will face. There are somethings that might be hard for Dean to deal with.
I loved the name of this book Trust. When you get to know Jess and Dean and read about their relationship you see so much distrust, for they truly do not trust each other. Dean more then Jess. Dean has this huge wall built up. He does not want to let anyone close in fear if they get to close he will not be able to protect him. He is a gangster and that just comes with they way of life. Jess will find herself having to prove herself time and time again.
Jess is doing her best to find what happen to her parents. She knows there are somethings that Dean is not telling her. She will not rest until she finds the truth. The truth could either draw them closer or pull them apart.
This story is about a girl that is use to running when things get tough. Jess will find herself at a cross road and will need to decide if Dean is worth fighting for. If you love bad boy and a heart felt story you will love this one. There will be love, hurt, and betrayal. Love and friendship will be tested. Who will be left standing?
FYI, I hope to see a future story of Lee Bailey, but that is just me.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
In this book we meet Dean Baily and Jess Taylor. In this book Jess has gone through some rough times since her parents were killed 18 months earlier. However when she learns that her grandmothers alztimers is getting worse she knows she has to visit before it is to late. When she does go to visit she learns that her grandmother had fallen in love before marring her grandfather. Her grandfather wants to make the woman he loves happy so if seeing her old love will do that he asks Jess to find him and bring him to see her. What he doesn't realize or maybe he does starts a chain of events that will turn Jess's world upside down. The one thing she hears from her grandmother before she starts this quest is never trust a man that says "trust me".
Dean was the thinker the one who never just jumped into something but one look at Jess and he finds himself jumping toward something he didn't think was possible. Dean feels himself falling more and more for Jess but is wondering is she falling for him too or just a plant to help eliminate him and his family once and for all? The more he tests her the more he wants to wrap her up and protect her. All he wants is for her to trust him and be safe but can he do what needs to be done for his family and keep her safe at the same time?
This book is very involved and will have you on pins and needle till the very end. Just when you think you know who the good and bad guys are something happens that makes you question that. This book is full of ups and downs that will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. The only complaint I have about this book is how fast the characters call it love, but who's to say there is that possibility of love at first sight. Either way I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
I have received this book in exchange for my honest review. This doesn't affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.
This is a definite must read book. It is not heavy dark, but just the right amount of darkness and good meeting somewhere in the middle. I very very much enjoyed every page of this book.
Jess is a girl who lost her parents and left her grandparents when things got too "heavy" for her to deal with. Since leaving she has not been having the best of luck or making the better choices in life. She is studying at the school of hard knocks but apparently getting to know that she doesn't want to be there anymore. She comes back to see her grandparents. Gran has Alzheimer's and it is very stressful on Grandad. Gran remembers a different life one before meeting Grandad and living that portion of her life. Jess hatches the idea to get something (or someone) for her Gran to help her in life.
Dean is a guy who has had one too many bad things happen to him, some are because of his own choices and many of them were family related, in a time he wasn't there, but carrying on the tradition none the less. He is a bit arrogant and self assured until he meets Jess, and then his whole world is given a jolt. One that scares him and makes him realize he feels things for her. True feelings....and then he starts to push her away. Little does Dean know it will not work the way he is trying to make it work. Jess has other plans.
Does Dean and Jess win out with fate? Or is fate too cruel to allow them a happy ever after? Do Jess and Dean end up together? Do they actually make it work? Or are the cards too stacked against them? This book is a must read. I am so thrilled I was given this opportunity to read and review this book. Looking forward to reading more from PJ Adams.
When Jess's Grandmother gets dementia and goes down hill fast. Jess goes goes in search of her Grans old lover Eddie Bailey But whilst looking for him she uncovers lots of deep dark family secrets about her deceased parents. Was it just a joy rider who run them off the road or was there something more sinister behind their deaths? She doesn't get to find Eddie Bailey as he died years before but she does however get to meet one of his grandsons Dean Bailey. Dean is an old school Gangster but the more time she spends with him she gets to see there is another softer side to him and starts to fall for him. When Dean first meets Jess he doesn't trust her one bit and thinks she's some kind of informant but even through those feelings he still starts to fall for her too. Well there is Plenty of excitement and edge of your seat action going on in this book. But under all the roughness of the gangster life style is a more softer side. I loved the storyline and loved all the characters. Dean maybe an old school gangster who's really ruthless but he is a real gent too. And it's this softer side that Jess falls for. Jess has been through a hard time for the last 18 months or so. After her parents were killed in a car crash she walked away from her grand parents and went off the rails. She started taking drugs and living her life quite recklessly. This has made her quite hard and untrusting. So she doesn't open up to anybody very easily. I loved this book it's such a great read loads of excitement. There are a few sexual scenes but not too much so that takes you away from the storyline, just the right amount in my opinion. A Great Story by a very talented author. I was sent a copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest review!
If you like "gangster" tales with a side order of love, then this is definitely a book you won't want to miss! Jess has been "lost" since her parents untimely death over eighteen months ago, finding trouble and ditching her family, trying desperately to run from her reality of life. When she finally gets her act together, she drags herself off to visit her only remaining family, her Gran and Grandad. Gran is plagued with dementia and spends most of her time looking for her fiance from 60 years ago, almost breaking Grandad's heart. After a long heart to heart talk with her Grandad, and with his blessing, she sets off to find the man Gran keeps asking for, only to find her own man, where she least expected. Dean isn't looking for a woman, doesn't want one in his life, but for some reason, when Jess walks into the pub looking for his grandfather, warning bells go off and he figures he has to keep her close by, at least until he can figure out what she really is doing here. Neither of them trust the other, at least not yet! P.J. Adams has woven a wonderful web with this story, and made it very easy for us to fall victim to it as she hauls us along for a tale of violence, corruption, invasion, and most of all love. Throw in all the pitfalls of trusting and loving someone you know you shouldn't but just can't help, and you've got a winner! I loved this book and am anxiously awaiting Owen and Lee's stories, because you just can't have one brother find love and not the others! I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
