Hot Caribbean Nights #1

Ruined by the SEAL

Rate this book
The Navy SEAL’s fresh start lies on the far side of her defeat…

Mick Frasier owes his life to his fellow Navy SEALs. Now that he’s discharged, one of them offers him another lifeline: a new future on the Caribbean island of Miralinda.

But when he arrives at the abandoned estate he’s supposed to whip into shape as an executive training facility, he finds it already under renovations—overseen by the beautiful director of the island’s Historical Society.

Cara Levasseur is too young for her job. Too pretty. Too…unorthodox. She’s heard it all, and now that she’s finally secured Villa Sucre, she’s not going to let anything get in the way of her first big professional coup.

Not even a sexy, strapping ex-Navy SEAL who isn’t afraid to turn on the charm—or when that doesn’t work, declare all-out war. When she sets up camp in the ballroom, because there’s not a chance in hell she’s giving up her claim on the estate, Mick stakes out his own territory around the only working bathroom on the property.

With tempers flaring and passions running hot, Cara’s intent on not letting Mick ruin this opportunity for her—and she doesn’t want him to ruin anything, either. Her life plan, for example. Or her heart…

4 - "Life is short and love is precious." Stars!

Another great addition to the ASSIGNMENT: Caribbean Nights series, with Zoe York’s first offering Ruined by the SEAL. This time we are taken to Miralinda Island, and are given Mick Frasier and Cara Levasseur’s story.

‘Frenemies’ to lovers is always a good trope to sink your teeth into, and ex-SEAL, Mick’s arrival on the Island and at Villa Sucre in particular does more than ruffle a few of Cara’s feathers.

He didn't want to be done with life at thirty-five. He wanted a new career. a second chance.

Both of them believe that they have the right to be on the property; Cara as the Villa was bequeathed to the Local Historical Society for whom she works for. Mick, is there representing one of his friends, whose family owned the Villa and now believe it was willed to them. Chaos, a few arguments and a lot of sexual chemistry ensues as everyone tries to work out who the correct owner is.

"Hell of a first kiss."

The author hit the ground running with the Villa aspect of the story, but I found although plenty of tension and chemistry between Mick and Cara, the romantic aspect of the book took a little longer to get going. Nothing that massively detracted from my enjoyment as the story is in essence a quick read, but there was definitely more story building in this one versus its predecessor Claiming Her SEAL by Kat Cantrell.

I am really enjoying this series, although loosely connected you can definitely read these books out of order and they are definite standalones so there is no worry about things getting confusing if you don’t read them all.

Anne Marsh is up next with her first inclusion to the series Sweet for a SEAL due for release on 6th April. With Kats next book Revealing Her SEAL following along on the 26th.

Well, that's another trashy romance read done and dusted for the year. It's a Christmas tradition of mine to allow myself a guilty pleasure.

I was actually genuinely impressed by the quality of the sex scenes. They were steamy without being crude, and romantic without too much sighing or eye-gazing. The characters were pretty flat, but let's be honest, deep characterisation is not exactly why we read these sorts of books.

But...but, but, BUT.. Zoe York has no idea how legal accessioning or the heritage industry works. None at all! I know that shouldn't have bothered me so much, but Cara, the protagonist literally had the job I did for most of my 20's. I'm a professional historian and I can tell you now, what Cara knows about historical conservation and preservation would have had her fired long before the events of this book.

Seriously though, I read the whole thing in an hour, and the experience was ridiculous enough for me to enjoy myself. So there we are.

See you all again next year!

There are lots of Navy SEALs books out there, but what makes this one and others written by Zoe York stand out is her ability to breathe life into her characters and make them the kind of people you wish were your friends. They are charismatic, funny, sometimes flawed, but always romance worthy heroes and heroines.

I liked that this story featured characters that were entwined with the locale - in this case Cara who is an island native with that Caribbean heritage in her blood. She's desperate to make the plantation into a heritage site, and Mick's arrival to claim it for his friend Will as part of his inheritance puts a definite damper on her plans, notwithstanding the attraction she feels for the handsome retired navy man looking for a new purpose in life. As they come to know each other, they develop a friendship that leads to more (and some steamy scenes between them as a result). The issue of whose land it is remains the conflict through the story, but the point when they individually realize how much the other person's future means to them is where their affection for each other makes them look for a compromise. I enjoyed meeting Cara's friends (and Mick's also), which hopefully means some great new stories on the way! 4.5 stars.

The second book in the multi-author ASSIGNMENT: Carribean Nights series, sees Zoe York take readers to the island of Miralinda where ex-SEAL Mick Frasier and historian Cara Levasseur go head-to-head on the restoration of an abandoned sugar plantation. And it's not long before the fireworks between them shifts course.

"This man was the enemy, no matter how tall or how handsome he was."

Ruined by the Seal really was an enjoyable, quick, sexy read with a couple who bring plenty of chemistry. Cara and Mick are two peas in a pod; stubborn, head-strong and argumentative, they're passionate in every sense of the word and the sexual tension between them builds from the start.

description

This is already shaping up to be a great series, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Anne Marsh adds to the mix with Sweet for a SEAL. It is worth mentioning though, that each can easily be read as a standalone.

I’m not sure why it happens, but every once in a while I get in a reading funk. It’s not the same as a slump - because I started out this month reading some FANTASTIC books. But for whatever reason I read one book that made me cranky, I didn’t feel like writing reviews, and now I am twitchy to read...but feel ambivalent about selecting a book to read next.

I decided I needed something that would be pure escapism fun, and a quick read. So...Zoe York to the rescue!

Mick has just been medically discharged from his Navy SEAL team. The only thing keeping him going is a plan he has with two of his soon-to-be-retiring SEAL buddies to turn a Carribean island estate (owned by one of the men) into a training/team building retreat facility. But once he gets to the property he discovers that beautiful Cara believes the estate has been bequeathed to the Miralinda Island Historical Society and has already started renovations of her own.

This conflict immediately puts them at odds and makes them natural enemies. As they each stake their claim on the property and await a final ruling on who legally owns the property, Mick and Cara get to know each other and of course, fall in love.

This was indeed a quick, fun, flirty read. The beginning was bogged down by too much internal monologue about how hawt the other was and what they’d like to be doing because of the hawtness. And because this was a shorter book, it lacked Ms. York’s usual extensive plot and relationship development. This book is long on heat and sorta short on the heart, which is what I usually love about a Zoe York book. But I enjoyed this book regardless and it was exactly what I was needing to read! Do I plan to read the rest of this series? Heck yeah!

Cara Levasseur met Mick Frasier while on a job to restore a historical site. He is there to represent the owner another Navy SEAL. His buddy inherited the site and the historical society think they were left the site my his grandmother. Mick and Cara are both representatives of the respective prospective owners and sparks fly from the moment they meet. Cara's job is Ruined by the SEAL and his intrusion into her job site.

Gradually they begin to communicate, get to know one another and the sparks keep flying but in a different direction with the strong attraction they have for one another. Mick is looking for a new live after being a Navy SEAL, wounded and forced out of the military and Cara find a solution to the problem with the estate.

I love a hot SEAL romance full of problems and liked that Cara came up with the solution so everyone got what they wanted. I look forward to reading more of this series by Zoe York.

I love romance books written about our HEROS! The men and women who put their lives on the line for their country. I love a book that tells the story of just a minute part of what these men and women go thru when they come home. They do not want our pity, they just want us to know that they are human, and unless you served as well, we will never, NEVER know what they went thru. My prayers go out to each and every one of you, whether in active, inactive, or retired from duty. I THANK YOU for every single thing you and your family, gave to us. I love the way Zoe York writes her stories about the SEALS. She writes stories of some of the things that these extremely brave men go thru when they come home. Ruined by the SEAL, the second in the Assignment: Caribbean Nights series written by three outstanding authors (Kat Cantrell, Anne Marsh, and Zoe York). This is Ms. York’s latest story written about SEALS. If I could only write one word about this book, FABTABULOUS!!!! But since I can write more I will.
This is the wonderful story of Mick Frasier, a newly retired, due to injury, SEAL, and Cara Levasseur, a historian, trying to save a wonderful old sugar plantation. Sparks fly because Mick is there to start construction to change the plantation to a training center. Over Cara’s dead body, he will!!!!
I really loved reading about these two determined people fall in love. Watching how Mick starts to see and share Cara’s passion for the history of the plantation. And the love scenes…. WOW!!!
Now, I most definitely need to thank Zoe York for the gift of this book. I absolutely loved it so much that when I picked it up this morning at 4, I pretty much could not put it down until I finished it a short time ago.
My favorite part was when Mick starts talking about his visit with Cara’s mom when……. Stop. No spoilers. You really need to read this part for yourself, I would not do it justice.
Thank you for reading my review. Yes, hit that One-Click button. You will not be disappointed. I cannot wait for the rest of this series. I love books that are a part of a series, but still a stand-a-lone book!!

A book about nothing

This is a book about nothing, set on a Caribbean island. I didn't understand their animosity from the very beginning, neither of them was the cause of the mix up, so why the anger? And there was no real resolution. They talked about what they wanted to do, but the details about whether it was approved or not by the executors of the estate is completely missing. It all seemed like much ado about nothing.

I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Another great Seal story by Zoe York! This was a fast, sexy, enjoyable, read with great characters and romance. I loved the interaction between Mick and Cara, the solution Cara came up with to their conflict, and the HEA ending. Can't wait for the next book in the series. A great read!

Cute romance

It was a cute story and an easy read. I just struggled to see how this was all going to work out for them, and the proposal was a bit fast. But it was a great escape book to read while sitting waiting for family to get home from work.

When Mrs Parry dies, she leaves behind her plantation on the Caribbean island of Miralinda, better knows as Sugar Island because of its most famous crop. Cara is the director of the island’s historical society, intent on capitalising on the generous donation left behind by Mrs Parry. She’s tasked with restoring the plantation and her job is in the balance.

An unexpected – but sexy – complication arrives in the form of Mick Frasier, an ex-Navy SEAL who’s been discharged for medical reasons. He’s at the plantation of behalf of his best friend, Will Parry, the grandson of the plantation’s owner. Will and his brother have been left the estate and plan to turn it into a training facility.

It seems that Mrs Parry had two wills, and neither party is sure which one is legally binding. While the lawyers hash it out in New York, Cara and Mick both stake their claim on the estate. Cara wants to continue her restoration work and Mick wants to start the renovations. Neither of them are willing to admit they’re attracted to each other, but they try to sort out an arrangement that benefits them both.

One night, during a hurricane on the island, they stop fighting their desire and give in to each other. They don’t have condoms on hand, so they become creative about how to slake their lust for each other. The next day, once the hurricane has passed, Cara goes out for supplies and comes back with condoms, which they soon put to good use.

Cara’s job is still on the line and the relics on the historical society board are becoming impatient with Cara, unfairly so. She’s frustrated by the lack of progress from the lawyers and unsure what’s happening with Mick – they haven’t known each other long, but she’s falling fast. She asks Mick to give her space for a week while she puts together another plan for the historical society (and give her time to think about her feelings for him), so Mick heads to Florida to catch up with another ex-SEAL. It’s there that his friend gives him some perspective on his new life outside the Navy, and Mick goes back a few days later.

Cara has realised she’s in love with Mick when he’s no longer around and she’s glad he’s come back early. Cara tells him her plan for them to share the estate so they can both have what they want, Mick professes his love for her, and she responds in kind. They set up a home together on the island and get their happily ever after.

Zoe York is new to me and holy cow! This book did not disappoint. It was so good. The setup was believable where the hero, Mikc, and the heroine, Cora, both have a stake in the same sugar mill on a Carribean Island. Cora wants to preserve it for the historical society. Meanwhile, Mick, wants to develop it as an executive training center. But a legal snag prevents either one from moving forward with his/her objective.

The attraction between Mick and Cora was hot. The sexy times were hot. The pacing and emotional tension was well crafted. This was a novella. The short read meant that the relationship morphed from sexual attraction to love to a marriage proposal only after a week. This was problematic for me, but the curse of a novella.

The resolution as to whom inherits the property felt too tidy, but this is all forgiven because Cora comes up with a solution for the property that honors both her and Mick. And Mick steps back and allows Cora to flourish to find a solution. Kudos to Zoe York for creating the perfect alpha male. One who is dominant in bed, but not outside of the bedroom. That's a fine line and Mick walks it.

Overall, I really enjoyed this. I'm looking forward to exploring more books by Zoe York.

This book was pretty alright. The characters were fun (though they didn’t really have any depth) and the premise of the story was interesting.

I thought that Cara and Mick worked well together, though, I have mixed feeling when it comes to the pace of their relationship. On the one hand, the conversion of ‘hate to love’ made sense however, the pace was too fast at times.

Also, I felt as though we didn’t get enough background on the characters. There wasn’t much to know about Cara to begin with but it would have been nice to know something a little bit deeper about her. I would have also liked to know Mick’s background. It was built up to be something with depth: the scars, the attitude, etc. But then, we didn’t really learn everything. He said he was ready to open up about everything to Cara and yet, I have no clue about anything that happened in his past. Because of this, I found the whole SEAL background to be a bit useless in this book.

Other than that, I enjoyed this book. It wasn’t anything particularly spectacular but I still had a good time. The characters were charming and so was the atmosphere - to me, that’s enough.

Just lovely and romantic!!

What more could anyone want on a warm and sultry evening than to read one of Zoe's romantic novels. Being a woman of colour, married to my hero, I just loved Cara and Mick's relationship which started fiery and aggressive yet ended up hot and sexy. I loved the honesty of their feelings and the way they worked as a team. That is so important in a relationship especially as they are planning a new venture. Just loved their chemistry and the setting sounded truly idyllic. I shall be reading the next book in the series. Thank you so much for writing this beautiful story. I would recommend this author and book to anyone who is a romantic and who loves bwwm.

Will be honest. It was a slow burn book, until it wasn’t. I didn’t exactly liked the pace of it all. Some of the plot had no resolution of sorts? The estate was just kinda forgotten but also not? The couple, main characters, were cool and all, but separately. Together I kinda didn’t feel it. But ok. They end up engaged. I either wasn’t paying too much attention but having a description of him as being a giant, tall, broad man didn’t do it for me. Her description was alright and I could picture the story more visually, but it lacked a lot. I liked the premise but disliked the execution.

And yeah, I only now realized it’s part of multiple series? Oh well, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything, so — you can totally read it as a stand-alone.

I obtained this free e-book from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing a review. Cara is heading a restoration project for the Miralinda Historical Society at Villa Sucre Plantation in the Caribbean Islands. Mick is a medically retired Navy Seal who is the front man for getting building permits for Villa Sucre Plantation that his friend Will has inherited from his rich grandmother to turn into a high end training facility. Both have letters from a attorneys office in New York awarding rights to each and neither is willing to budge.

Ex Navy SEAL Mick Frasier is ready for a new start. He turns up to the Caribbean Island of Miralinda to Villa Sucre, an abandoned plantation, inherited by his SEAL buddy Will Parry intent on setting up an executive training facility. However, the villa is no longer abandoned, it’s being slowly and lovingly restored by Cara Levasseur of the Miranda Historical Society. Both Mick and Cara insist they are representatives of the rightful owner of the villa. Their deep attraction distracts them both. While the lawyers figure out who rightfully owns the villa a standoff ensues - tempers flare and passion ignites...

Touching

I picked this up to read between series. Now I’m hooked. The story of an injured Navy SEAL trying to find a new purpose has him landing on a Caribbean island to lay the groundwork for a new business using a friend’s inheritance. Except someone beat him him to it.

I found the writing fluid and it captured me. The story flowed and introduced quit a few characters sure to be featured in the next books. I can’t wait.

Such a sweet story

This story really touched my heart. Even though he had a goal in mind before setting foot on the villa, he waited to see how things planned out before starting his work on the land. With their chemistry, it was surprising to see how long they waited before finally succumbing to the heat and passion. When she’s finally found a way to make things work out for both sides with the estate, she’s ecstatic and he’s so supportive. I cannot wait to see what’s next.

Sexy Caribbean Couple

Mick and Cara’s story was beautifully written and sexy as ever! Zoe York has created a lovely series, filled with broody, sexy SEALs & the tough as nails women they fall for! Set on the tiny island of Miralinda, Mick and Cara navigate a “will in probate” situation that keeps them on their toes and throwing barbs at each other constantly! Read on to see what happens next, possibly something they didn’t even know they were looking for?

Sealed with a kiss

A retired SEAL is sent by his buddy to start construction on his inherited estate on a beautiful Caribbean Island. He doesn't expect to meet the fiery woman currently on the property working on the Historical Society's restoration. They clash immediately, each one passionate about the future of this property. Mickelson and Cara may clash at first but their passion soon leaks into their private lives.

Short but sweet.

it was good

This was a fast paced easy to read, hot in places story. There were bits that seemed unnecessary, like why she had to camp out in the house instead of going to her house?? It's not like he was going to run off with a plantation house!! But it kept them in the same place, if that was the point. Not sure I'd bother with any more in the series, but it was good for a couple of hours escapism.

I read this book because my dad saw it on a shelf once and would not SHUT UP about the title. Anytime I talked about romance novels, the ones I liked or didn’t, what I was currently reading, etc. He would mention this goddamn book. Well, dad, I read it just for you. It was fine. There was not a lot of ruining (unless you count nice normal sex). There was a navy seal. They were on a made up Caribbean island. The end.

There was a lot of thought put into this story, concerning what mindset a person would be in when they are "medically retired" from the military after being wounded while fighting for us!
Mick and Caraare both strong characters, who started at opposite sides of a struggle. Read their story of how they worked through all the issues, business and personal. Fast paced and well written as usual. Definitely recommend this book!

Enjoyed

Mick and Cara started out with a bang and one would have thought they would hurt each other. They were both felt the chemistry but had different agendas that would not mesh. As the will over the property got messy they began to get closer together. A trip to Florida helped Mick figure out what he wanted while Cara met with the historical society and began to realize what she wanted also. They began a new plan together and worked on a happy ending.

I really enjoyed Mick and Cara's story. These two have chemistry right from the very beginning. Their story is hot and filled with passion and conflict. They both can't win but together they can achieve an ideal balance. The story introduces other characters to lead into the next books. Look forward to reading more about Miralinda Island.

I was really really bored by this story. The romance moves at a really unrealistic pace, especially the way Mick deals with his personal demons from his injury and subsequent discharge from the military. It's dealt with off the page in 2 days. (This doesn't seem like enough time to come to terms with a major change in your life - just my opinion)
