Speed Reading: How To Read 5X Faster - Read Faster, Comprehend More, and Increase Productivity

Rate this book
Speed reading is a unique and interesting pursuit that ties together two seemingly disparate groups of people. Do you see yourself in one of the following descriptions?

1) You want to learn to speed read because you generally don’t like reading and want to spend as little time on it as possible. You feel that if you read more, then you’d have an easier time keeping up with people in social and business environments. You want to be able to have an intelligent opinion on current events, pop culture, what have you. Again, you’re really not thrilled about reading. It doesn’t intrinsically interest you, but you recognize reading as a crucial gateway to knowledge.

2) You want to learn to speed read because you’ve got an insatiable hunger for knowledge. You love to read, and you want to read more, and faster, and with greater levels of comprehension. The world is bursting at the seams with knowledge that’s yours for the taking, and even though you can’t feasibly read all the books in the known universe, you’re going to come damn close. You don’t just want to be a proficient participant in the watercooler chat, you want to be known as the office’s mother-freaking oracle!

And yes, it’s possible that you lie somewhere between these two extremes, but odds are you’re more in line with one or the other.

Rather than have two separate books for each of these two demographics, this book heals the divide by focusing in on the most universally acknowledged and respected approaches to reading faster and comprehending more.

There are, in fact, a lot of different theories and tools that claim to help people read faster and understand more. And, it stands to reason that there is a fair degree of variety in terms of what type of reader benefits from what type of practice. Some readers struggle most with subvocalization (more on that later) while others can’t reign in control over their saccades (more on that later as well), and still others may have a bad habit of regressing subconsciously backwards through the text (and, you guessed it, we’ll have more on that as well in the ensuing chapters).

There are some methods, and some claims made by the proponents of these methods, that are just outlandish. These are either the results of very unique brain chemistry, or (more likely) the pseudo-intellectual child of some amphetamine or perhaps crack cocaine.

Speed reading is a truly interesting subject, and a worthy one. Learning to read fast and comprehend with accuracy is like tweaking your highest learning gear. If you are successful in this pursuit, then the good results you earn will spill over into all other areas of your life where reading comes into play, be they social or professional.

For those of you who enjoy getting your money’s worth in the form of actual, measurable results, increasing your reading speed is imminently measurable. We’ll even provide opportunities within this toolkit for you to test your emerging skills as a speed reader.
