Listen up rookies, I’m going to keep this short, and I’m going to keep this simple. If you’re going to be an agent for the Australian Department of Unusual Events, then you need to know how to deal with werewolves. And werewolves, rookies, are not pleasant creatures to deal with. The average werewolf is seven feet tall and weighs roughly two hundred and fifty kilograms. The average werewolf also wants nothing more than to rip your face off and eat you for dinner.
If you want to beat a werewolf, you can’t afford to fight fair. No, you cheat – you cheat as much as you bloody can. If that means sneaking up on it and putting a silver bullet in the back of its head with a sniper rifle, then that’s what you do. But I’m not going to waste your time by telling you what you already know. I’m not going to tell you about a mission where everything went right. I’m going to tell you about a mission where things went wrong because things always go wrong and learning how to deal with that is the only way you’ll last more than a year or two in the Department.
So pay attention and take notes. It could save your life.
I'm a reader and writer with a keen interest in psychology, history, physics, and economics. I'm especially interested in the intersection of these different areas (e.g., the psychology behind the sub-prime mortgage collapse).
In terms of fiction, I enjoy reading horror, fantasy, science fiction, Westerns, and thrillers. I believe that every genre has its good points, and I want to be able to incorporate all of these strengths into my own writing.
I currently live in Australia. When I'm not writing, I'm busy trying to fend off all of the deadly wildlife.

In a Fight With a Vampire... Cheat as Much as You Can
THE TROUBLE WITH WEREWOLVES (The Department Series Book 1) by L.G. Estrella
3 stars. Lecturing the rookies at the Australian Department of Unusual Events, Michael Delacruz says...
It should be another two or three years before their nightmare starts...
Further...
Out of his twenty recruits, five of their number probably won't make it through their first year in one piece...
Some will be eaten.. Some will quit...
It takes a certain kind of brave moron to apply for this job. It takes a stubborn, suicidal idiot...
But the pay is good...
What is big, has teeth the size of screwdrivers, and wants to rip your face off?
An angry Australian werewolf..
If you're going to survive a fight with something bigger and faster than you, cheat as much as you can...
This was an entertaining and humorous look at fighting the werewolf population in the outback of Australia. The story is told in the first person narrative by Michael Delacruz while instructing his new recruits in man-to-werewolf combat.
This is book 1 of 2, and reading it was a lot like playing a warfare video game. It was very much like WITH TEETH, a novella by Brian Keene (which was also a very good story).
As if we don't already have enough bitey things here in Australia.
So now we have werewolves and vamps to worry about as well as crocs, spiders, snakes etc. This was a cool little novella told in an unusual way. It was couched as a lecture on anti-werewolf tactics as told to rookies from "The Department" (an Aussie organisation formed to fight monsters - and cover up the evidence). The lecturer used personal case histories to get his message across. I'm not sure if this method of story telling actually works, but it was...err...different.
You could knock this book off in an afternoon, but my tired old eyes kept telling me it was time for a grandpa nap, and it took me a couple of days. The actual plot was full of standard werewolf fare set against an Aussie background out in the bush. Sometimes, standard werewolf fare is what I want. Editing could do with a brush up, but it wasn't too bad.
This bloke writes a good short story and probably even better long ones. I'll read more of his works.
Read after seeing it assigned on the 2021 Bossy Book Challenge, Read a book from a country you do not live in. This book is set in Australia.
Funny and quirky, this was a better than good start to what looks to be a great short series. There are only 2 books in the series so far, but I could see more in the future.
This book took me so long to finish because I was distracted by library books. If is only 75 pages so it is more a novella.
This book is a funny account of a mission by an employee of the Australian Department of Unusual Events and one messed up mission. In this training lesson, we learn about werewolves and how to defeat them. The short answer, lots and lots of violence.
