Apparently I never logged this one in the last couple years! I like the different alphabet books Paprocki does. They’ve been great for learning the alphabet.
This is by far my favorite alphabet book I've ever seen! Each letter pinpoints an element of midcentury life and culture: barbecue, drive-in, hot-rod, letterman (jacket), poodle, rock-n-roll, UFO, and waitress. Each page is illustrated with fabulous stereotypical fifties design, furniture, clothing, color, and style. I probably like it more than my son!
Picked this up as a gift, initially, but had to buy my own copy for G because I immediately was obsessed. The pictures are beautiful, 1950s cartoons, with some modern twists. I like how the letter is prominently featured on the page, though I wish they would do both an upper and lower case. Super fun, and beautiful to look at!
I have a confession... I'm a 43 year old woman and I love Greg Paprocki's BabyLit Alphabet Books. I don't have children but I do have my own copies of 3 in the series and will be collecting more. Don't judge me.
These really are fantastically fun little books and I look forward to sharing them with pint-sized visitors.
I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway and it is beautiful! The illustrations are stylized and colorful, the people drawn on each page are diverse and filled with personality, and every scene related to a letter is dated so wonderfully to the mid-20th century. I think my favorite page is "U is for UFO," complete with a farmer and his cow gazing up in astonishment as a green alien whizzes by in his flying saucer.
The images are straightforward and relatable while still containing a lot of extra little details that are fun to peruse and discuss their historical relevancy (yes, I am nerd). Like the Alexander Calder mobile and 50s-trendy wall clock on the "I" page. In short, I definitely recommend this one and will probably buy myself another from the series eventually.
I received a copy of this book through goodreads First Reads giveaway.
This is an adorable alphabet board book for kids. I love the 50's theming of the illustrations and the words that go with each letter. Because of the themed vocabulary I think this book could even be used with older kids and used as an example to have them then pick a theme and write their own alphabet book. I particularly love that "K is for kitchen" and while it is 50's themed, there is a picture of dad in the kitchen cooking cupcakes instead of mom. :)
I've read other BabyLit books and am impressed with the quality of board books from this publisher.
My history loving heart goes fluttering for these books! They are adorable and I will collect them all. All the words are actually related to the eras they are set in and I love the illustrations. Definitely something to add to the libraries of the children in your life
Kait and I loved this one. The pictures give you a lot to talk about and a few history lessons. The characters are diverse. There's a female scientist and a father in the kitchen making cupcakes.
