I knew I had this book on my kindle, and knew this author wrote action thrillers, well about time I tried this author.

I am very glad I did in the action packed ,fast paced thriller, a prequel to start this series... a nive quick read of 171 pages...

A deadly assassin. A perpetual target. A double-cross she never saw coming…

They say the truth will set you free, but what if it kills you first?

Leine Basso eliminates terrorists for a living. After a routine assassination almost gets her killed, she chalks it up to a fluke. Her lover and fellow assassin, Carlos, has another idea altogether. He thinks their boss is setting them up for a fall.

When Carlos goes missing and a bombing thwarts another mission, Leine suspects the stakes are far higher than she could ever imagine, and wonders if the man in charge might have it in for her after all.

Leine is a kick-ass sassy, tough but realistic and human, and this story starts the story fantastically, explaining the whole story.

This story is fast paced, action packed blockbuster of a thriller, with a hint of humour, romance and well as realistic action, shocks, and real twists and the start of a great new character.

Another author to follow, in fact downloaded all four Leine Basso books and now on the next story...

Hope this standard continues... A clear four star book. Very nearly a five star !

A first in a series, this book is about a female assassin Leine who is based in the US and appears to work 'off the record' for a government agency. I got through it fairly quickly but cannot say that I was enthralled.
There was quite a lot of technical information about guns that went right over my head.
While this book was OK and would probably be appealing to many, there was not enough there for me to want to read more.

I’ve read four Leine Basso thrillers. Yes, I love them. Actually, I love HER…she’s a sassy, kick-arse, no-nonsense, I’ll-eat-your-balls-for-breakfast type of woman. And at the same time, she’s a mum and a lover, with all the usual ups and downs those things entail. She simply rocks.

Now, I have to admit, I’m not that fussed with prequels. Why bother with what’s gone before, if you know what happens afterwards, I’ve always thought. But Berkom is not only a talented writer, she’s a canny one. Throughout each Basso thriller, there are crumbs…tantalising crumbs…of her history as an assassin and her former dead lover. Enough to pique your interest and want to find out what brought her to her present life.

A dangerous one. A very dangerous one did. Leine was excellent at her job, so when assignments started not going quite to plan, she began to wonder if her lover (and fellow assassin), Carlos, was right to suspect that their boss might be selling them out. And her own doubts turned to concern…and dread…when Carlos appeared to be completely uncontactable.

Berkom’s books are ones when you almost forget to breathe. They’re fast-paced, taut with tension and sheer joy from start to finish. I’m never sadder than when I read those two little words—The End. I can’t get enough of Basso, or of Berkom’s writing, and I'm always left with an enormous problem of what to read next: she’s a hard act to follow.

I received an advance ARC from the author for my review and I also purchased it from amazon.com.

With 'A Killing Truth', D.V. Berkom gives you everything but the kitchen sink, the Prequel has it all and although the ending bummed me out.

This was my style of book, love the fast pace, dig the tension filled moments, like all the action filled drama, full of suspense, your almost on a roller coaster with all the twists and turns, excellent cast of characters and a conclusion that I would have done different.

Leine Basso's on a hit in Eastern Europe, when she realizes that Igor Glushenko knows what's about to happen and she's been set up. Luckly her boyfriend Carlos creating a diversion, that enables her to escape, by shooting her way out and killing three would be assissins.

Carlos makes her aware that their boss Eric, trying to set them up to kill them and has hidden away evidence of it. You'll have to read it to know the rest of the story but I will say that the ending kind of easy and I would have had the two doing a hit on Eric.

Have them realize, one was being sent after the other. So they team up, then go after Eric take him out were he knows they did it, without other witnesses and feed him to the Sharks off ther Carolina coast.

A Killing Truth would make an excellent introduction to D.V. Berkom's writing, she one of my favorites, love how she just puts you right in the pages and you just don't want to end.

This is another exciting Leine Basso Thriller but it takes place before the rest of the series and gives an insight into what made Leine into the person she is today.

Leine is an expert assassin but after almost getting killed on an assignment, her lover, Carlos, thinks someone set her up – their boss, Eric. Carlos believes their boss is trying to get them killed and hiding any evidence.

When Leine’s assassination job gets messed up because of Ilya who was attempting to assassinate the same target, she came up with another plan. It was a little hard to carry out, though, because she had decided to keep Ilya with her. She felt she was better off letting him work with her so that she could keep an eye on him and make sure he didn’t cause more trouble. Which she was sure he would do if left on his own.

I have always love Leine! It is so great to have a strong, capable female protagonist in a story but her skills go beyond being capable.

Since I loved the other books in this series, I was looking forward to reading this. While this was a good book, I found it a bit confusing at times and didn't always know who was being talked about - especially near the end which is why I gave it 3.5 stars.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

While I found D.V. Berkom's writing good and the story very interesting, it wasn't my favorite book in the world. That being said, my low rating has nothing to do with the author's writing ability or prowess in crafting an intricate, interesting plot. It is mainly because I found the book to be quite sad. This is an action-packed book as we watch Leine complete questionable assignments for the Agency while also dealing with a half-cocked, blood thirsty Russian teen and fighting for her life at almost every turn. Based on the other reviews I've read, I get the idea that I might've enjoyed this book much more had I already read other books in the series. With this being my first Berkom book, however, I found the book to be rather dark without much hope involved. In this book, it feels like we essentially watch everything that is good and happy in Leine's life go up in smoke, with a tiny bit of hope at the end (though, based on the title of the series, I would assume this little spark of hope to be possibly the most important part of the story). The book ends with a cliffhanger. It is definitely not meant to be read as a stand-alone novel. Based on how this book left me feeling, I'm not sure if I would want to continue the series or not. I am certainly curious to find out what happens next. Will Ilya make a reappearance? Will Leine mend her relationship with her daughter, April? What will become of Eric? Will Carlos be easily forgotten? While I certainly want to know the answers to all of these questions and more, I am cautious about reading more books that might leave me feeling not so great. Regardless, I would be interested in reading the next book (since it can only go uphill from here, right?). Overall, this book is well-written and incredibly engaging with interesting characters, but also a little darker than my normal preference in reading material. So, if you're into happy, hopeful, uplifting books, this is not for you. If you like adventure, danger, and thrill, however, this is definitely a book for you.

If you've read the books in the Leine Basso series that have come out prior to this, you know a lot about her history. That she worked as an assassin for a quasi-official government agency was always clear. That she no longer did was also clear. And at least to me it seemed that her feelings about her history were ambiguous, with some pride and some regret.

This book is a prequel, coming before any of the main series. It takes place near the end of Leine's time as an assassin. It works as a standalone thriller, with an intense, edge-of-your-seat story. However, those who “know” Leine from the main series will come to understand her that much better after reading A Killing Truth. And while I may be reading more into it than was intended, I think the way this book ended there may be another prequel in the future. Maybe more than one.

A Killing Truth: (A Leine Basso Thriller Prequel) is a slam dunk winner. A great beginning for what appear to be a winning series. Introduces Leine as an assassin much like the famed Nikita, although, unlike Nikita, Leine wasn't rescued from death row, and, unlike the agency that Nikita worked for the agency that Leine worked for turned against her and tries to kill her. A Killing Truth isn't just a page turner, it's a page burner.

A Killing Truth has whet my appetite for more of Leine and I will be buying and reading all the other books in this firecracker of a new series.

If I have anything negative to say about this story, the one thing that kept me from giving it a five start rating is that the author included a couple of weapons that don't exist in the real world and that bothers a weapons person/reader like myself. Even so, D.V. Berkom has won a new fan and follower in me.

Got this free on Amazon and am now keen to read the rest in the series. Leone is a likeable protagonist with a rich back story, that I'm sure we'll learn more about as time goes on. I really enjoyed the lead character being female, makes a nice change, and brings a different angle to male dominated roles we've all become used to. Really good book.

I love D V Berkom's work. She knows just how to get a female lead to be strong and vulnerable at the same time. Leine is a work of art, love her to bits. The book is well written and flows nicely if a little hard to swallow at times. I've read a few of the later books in the series, and it was nice to see how it started.

Non-Stop Twists and Turns

An excellent thriller that pits Leine against not only international criminals but her own boss. The conclusion leaves the reader looking for her next adventure and wondering what has happened to April.

An Exciting, Full Action International Thriller!

Berkom has an exceptional ability to create believable fast action scenes of nearly super human characters. Reader's can't help but root for female assassin Leone Basso who is able to hold her own against the biggest evil players. Definitely a most enjoyable read!

The Leine Basso series by DV Berkom is jam packed with action and adventure and Leine Basso is one badass protagonist that I would love to have on my side in my time of need. When I found out DV Berkom was going to write her story about before she started hunting down serial killers and taking out drug cartel, I thought, bring it on.

I have been looking forward to learning about Leine Basso before…

Leine Basso is an ex assassin, strong on the outside, yet soft on the inside, even though she does her best to hide it from everyone. She is super smart and does what needs to be down, no matter how tough the job.

What drove her to quit her government job as an assassin?

The betrayal by her boss leads to horrific consequences for Leine, so tragic, that it will haunt her for the rest of her life as she struggles to reconcile with her daughter. Will she ever be able to have a “normal” life…well, normal to her. You know love, a relationship, a man you can trust with your life. She has sacrificed so much, she deserves a chance at happiness…and DV…I believe you will give it to her. Right? LOL

I had wondered if I may be disappointed with A Killing Truth because I have been wanting to see how DV Berkom would write her story ever since I met Leine Basso. Now, I can breathe a sigh of relief. Disappointed? NO WAY. I am not surprised that this prequel is my favorite Leine Basso story yet. It explains her motivations, at the same time it is filled with action packed danger and suspense that kept me hanging on every word.

I found that I am happy I didn’t know her story before hand. It carries so much more meaning for me now and I feel her sense of betrayal and my anger makes me wonder how she could have ever allowed him to live and breathe. I am so pissed off, I don’t know how Leine manages. I never saw the twisted story that DV Berkom created and I love/hate it. I love it because it was such a horrible surprise that, in hindsight, I should have caught, but DV wrote it in such a way that shes slid it right by me. Excellent job! And I hate it because…well…you will have to read it to find out for yourself.

I received a copy of A Killing Truth by DV Berkom in return for an honest review.

A Killing Truth (Leine Basso Thriller Prequel) - D.V. Berkom For the Indies Unlimited Reading Challenge this month, I'm supposed to read a book in a genre I don't usually pick up. Thrillers qualify, for sure; usually I find them violent for the sake of being violent, and lacking in character development. With D.V. Berkom's work, however, I don't have either problem. This is the second of her books that I've read, and I've enjoyed them both.A Killing Truth is a prequel to Berkom's series featuring Leine Basso, a kickass operative for a shady U.S. anti-terrorist agency. When she's not picking off bad guys, she enjoys time with her young daughter. And she has a boyfriend, Carlos, who shares her line of work. When Leine nearly gets killed on assignment, she writes it off as a bad job -- but Carlos thinks their boss might be trying to eliminate them both. Then Carlos goes missing -- and the boss sends Leine on a crazy mission that's sure to get her killed.Leine is a no-nonsense professional and a deadly adversary -- and as usual with Berkom's work, the excellent editing and taut pacing kept me on the edge of my seat to the very end.As A Killing Truth is a prequel, you don't need to have read any of the other books in the series to enjoy this one. Highly recommended for readers who like their crime novels with tough female heroines.

Having read a few of the Leine Basso series, I was surprised by this story. It not only answered some lingering questions, it's also a very good story on its own merits. It has a little of everything ranging from a love interest to nipple piercing to tattooing. Just doesn't get any better than this. If you're a squeamish reader, this book might be a little rough for you. As usual with Berkom, you get great character development and nice visuals of both the action and scenery. A well done Action/Thriller!

An assassin for a super-secret government organization known only as the Agency, Leine is convinced that she’s doing what she’s good at, and is ridding the world of evil at the same time. Then, a supposedly routine job goes south and she’s ambushed and almost killed. She chalks it up to a glitch, but her partner/lover, Carlos, is convinced that their boss, Eric, is setting her up. She’s not convinced until Carlos goes missing and a bomb almost kills her on the next assignment Eric gives her.
A Killing Truth is the chilling prequel to D.V. Berkom’s Leine Basso thriller series. It introduces one of modern fiction’s deadliest heroes, filling in some of the blank spaces in Leine’s murky background, and at the same time, offering readers a generous helping of Berkom’s talent in weaving a fantastically twisted tale that will keep you perched on the edge of your seat.
As Shaft would say, “Leine Basso is one bad mother---” Get it today. You won’t regret it. I received an advanced review copy of this book from the author, but I also purchased it – talk about being an over-the-top fan.

Leine Bossa is a paid assassin who gets the hardest assignments from the Agency, an undocumented agency of the US government. When she becomes a target during an assignment to eliminate an international arms dealer, Leine becomes involved with the dealer's henchmen, the Russian mafia, and an impulsive Russian teenager bent on a revenge killing of the dealer. Leine soon realizes that she is actually the target and must take action to prevent her own death. Her life takes turns for the worst with her man friend, daughter, the Russian teenager, and the Agency.

"A Killing Truth" is a tense, high action thriller with a few twists and turns that provide some background for the Leine Basso series. The story is well-written and entertaining.

Note: I received this story free from the author for a fair review.

An excellent introduction to the author and character, this book is a prequel to the Leine Basso series. Well-written and excellently paced, this story shows Leine when she was still an assassin, together with her fiancé, before her boss tries to kill them and she leaves it all behind. I won't give any more spoilers, but the story was brilliant, and the characters really had depth, both making the book highly recommended reading for any Leine Basso lovers, or anyone who enjoys action and adventure books, particularly with this type of theme. I'm looking forward to reading more of the series soon.
