About the author

Saniyasnain Khan is an Indian television host and children's author of over 100 children's books on Islamic topics. He established Goodword Books in 1999.
He has also created board games for children on Islamic themes. A trustee of the Centre for Peace and Spirituality (CPS International) – a non-profit, non-political organization working towards peace and spirituality, he contributes articles on Islam and spirituality to English newspapers.
He is considered to be among the World's 500 Most Influential Muslims by the George Washington University, USA. His books have been translated into French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Polish, Swedish, Bosnian, Norwegian, Russian, Uzbek, Turkish, Arabic, Malay, Thai, Malayalam, Bengali, Urdu, etc.

وقتی روی قرآن کار می‌کنیم، یکی از مشکلات، کارتون‌هایی است که از داستان‌های قرآن در کودکی دیده‌ایم. باید نیروی زیادی صرف کنیم تا آن تصاویر را بریزیم بیرون. در تصویر، استعاره به واقعیت ملموس فروکاسته می‌شود. همچنین بازی‌های زبانی که عهده‌دار بخش قابل توجهی از معنای متون شعرگونه‌ی مقدس هستند، کاملا از بین می‌روند. این کتاب نیز با این‌که به‌شدت تلاش کرده به «ترجمه‌ی ظاهر» آیات قرآن پایبند باشد، از این قاعده و کارکرد مخرب مستثنی نیست. گرچه پیشرفت‌هایی داشته است. مثلا، چنان‌که من نیز این لحظه معتقدم، داستان خورشید و ماه و ستاره‌پرستی ابراهیم در سوره‌ی انعام را به صورت سیر درونی خود او تلقی کرده، نه یک نمایش در جهت هدایت قومش. (بله، بله، می‌دانم با پیش‌فرض‌های کلامی عصمت جزئی انبیاء نمی‌خواند). البته این سیر حتی لزوما نشان‌دهنده‌ی ادواری تاریخی از زندگی ابراهیم نیز نیست و می‌تواند چنان‌که در صافات:۸۸ آمده، در یک لحظه اتفاق افتاده باشد.
اما مثلا در مورد داستان عیسی و آیات نساء:۱۵۷-۱۵۸ به مکاتب متداول کلامی تن داده و از «به آسمان رفتن» و «مصلوب شدن شخصی شبیه عیسی» سخن گفته است که خوانشی بسیار انتخابی و غیرمنطبق با لفظ است.
در نهایت اگر می‌توانیم به جای بیت «به می سجاده رنگین کن گرت پیر مغان گوید» بنویسیم: «پیر مغان از همه داناتر و مهربان‌تر است. پس اگر پیرمغان گفت سجاده‌هایتان را به جای ماشین لباس‌شویی در تشت شراب بشویید، به حرف او گوش کنید. چون او حتما چیزی می‌داند که شما نمی‌دانید.» اگر واقعا این بازنویسی ممکن است و مخرب نیست، من هم با شما هم‌نظرم که نوشتن کتاب فوق از روی قرآن ممکن است و مخرب نیست.

Reviewing this book before let my 7yo nephew to delve into it.

Like the easy language and it has some repetitive which good for children. Love the illustrations. I wish I had a beautifully illustrated book like this when I was a kid.

Just have some issues, firstly, it mentioned Garden of Paradise is on Earth. I know there is different of opinion about that but I would say its better to go with the mainstream opinion which it's on Heaven.

Secondly, I would say that there is a hole in the narrative of Adam and Hawa's slip. It didn't mention Allah swt taught them the supplication for forgiveness and Allah did forgave them. It mentioned that 'He didn't want to punish them too much. He ordered them to leave the garden and go down and stay on earth.' This kind of language is problematic because it suggests that Allah didn't forgive them. And it's imperative to stress that they went to earth was not a part of a punishment rather it was Allah' s plan all along since the beginning of the human creation. This refers to the conversation of Allah swt with angels.

Overall, this is a good book for children and it's good for parents to read along side them and explain a bit. It would be an enjoyable experience for them.

One thing I liked in "My first Quran storybook" was that it gave a lot of information about the Quran that i did not know. The thing that I disliked about this book is that it was not in chronological order. I wish the author (Saniyasnain Khan) wrote about the whole Quran i this book. I would recommend this book to people that want to learn more about Islam or about the Quran. I read this book because I wanted to learn more about the Quran in english. The story i liked the most was Chapter 12 about the prophet Ibrahim's (Abraham) Faith. I was amazed about how the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) knew that Allah was the actual lord. This book includes stories from the a lot of Surah's (chapters) in the Quran including Baqarah, Al-An'am, Hud and more. In the end, the author included which Surah's he each story from. This was a great book and I enjoyed learning more about the Quran.

It is perfect for everyone learning about Qur‘anic stories. They‘re simple, easy and short - no excuse not to read and learn about them. The references in the back of the book are handy. The illustrations beautiful. Masha‘Allah! Thank you for this beautiful book.

Very nice children's book telling some of the stories (mainly about the different prophets) from the Qur'an. Suitable for my boy who is 7 years old. And I like the referencing aspect of the verses from the original Quran which each of the stories are based on.

Not suitable for my 3 year old yet, but I've just received the newly published children's book My First Book About the Qur'an by Sara Khan from my cousin and will be using that to establish the foundation before moving her on to this. It might be worth pointing out that her book has also been really well received by my 7 year old son, who enjoyed testing his knowledge and surprisingly didn't know all of the answers to the questions the author recommended to ask, showing that there was a gap that has now thankfully been filled. Alhamdulillah!

This book is essential for Muslim Children's bookshelves. It is a children's version of the Quran, teaching children the different stories and information within it, in an appropriate way for children. Religious texts can be difficult to read, but with a children's version, it gives children knowledge in a way easy for them to understand. As it is a nonfiction book, problems and solutions are not needed, it simply states experiences that have occurred throughout time. With the intricate drawings and colorful pages, it adds to the imagination of children as they can see what is being recited to them in an age-appropriate way. The book, of course, is retold by a Muslim author.

Memperkenalkan Al-Qur'an sejak dini, seharusnya sudah menjadi barang wajib bagi muslim/ah, terutama yang telah diamanahi anak. Mulai dari membiasakan telinga anak dengan bacaan-bacaan Al-Qur'an sampai membacakan isi yang terkandung di dalamnya. Salah satu cara menyampaikan sesuatu yang disukai anak adalah bercerita, dan media yang cocok adalah buku dengan ilustrasi/gambar yang mendukung cerita.

A helpful kids book to understand stories in the Quran; most stories are followed by the moral of the story. It is interesting to compare with stories in the Torah ["Pentateuch"] (+ Prophets + Writings) and Injil (Gospel) about the different prophets and figures to see how they are viewed similarly and differently.

Generally, the stories aren't situated in chronological order; rather, they are given as isolated stories that illustrate a greater moral truth and that show what Allah's will is for humanity.
