The author presents us three stories about Japanese people who lived during the Edo period. They all are somehow interesting, but I found the first one too slow (it constitutes, more or less, the first half of the book). Furthermore, this story offers you a lot of information about Japanese administration, which can be confusing to foreign readers like me. In fact, I was about to give up reading at any moment. However, when I started the second story (Nakane Tori), I realized it was worth it to keep reading until the end. The whole book is a good introduction for people who want to learn more about the Edo period. Maybe someone who knows this historical era will provide a better opinion than me, a Spanish girl who feels a little clueless about Japanese culture. I promise I will keep learning more about this beautiful country and its culture in order to avoid this barrier!
