Welcome to Possum Hollow, where the people are made of blood, bones, and lies. And the hills burn with secrets.
Jethro Sutton is an outcast—scarred, crippled, and shunned for a hellish crime he didn’t commit sixteen years ago. For over a decade, he’s lived as a recluse. A wild man roaming the West Virginia hills with a heart full of hate and love for a girl he once knew.
That girl destroyed him. The woman she became haunts his dreams.
And when she finds herself on the knuckle-end of her husband’s fist, Jethro is forced to intervene. But saving his green-eyed, backwoods beauty queen rips open wounds that have been festering for too damn long, and he ends up knee-deep in a swamp of memories that threatens to drown them both. Because some cuts are too deep. Some bones too broken. And some loves just ain’t enough.
Moxie Darling is an erotic romance author living in the wilds of Ohio with her husband and four-legged family. She has a penchant for writing (and reading) naughty stories with a taboo twist. When she’s not making word magic, she can be found crocheting stuff, stalking Goodreads and Pinterest, or struggling to resist the siren call of her chocolate stash.
This series is like a redneck soap opera where no one has a full set of teeth, everyone's a hobag and they're all cray cray.
Possum Hollow is one fucked up helluva place.
I can't sit and say that I particularly liked the characters because I didn't. What choices Dreama did make by herself were shitty. All I felt for Jethro was pity and pretty much everybody else falls under disgust. BUT, the gritty, raw, disturbing mess that goes on in this story had me hooked just like the first book and that happens a lot less often the more books I read.
Oh my God! Jethro was ahhhhmazing! So much drama! I loved very moment of it! I couldn't put it down! Jethro is a little more serious of a story, hitting on some tough points dealing with sexual abuse. I love seeing characters grow in a series and that's just what Moxie gives us in these stories! I can't wait to see what happens next in Possum Hallow! I'm hooked!
I have been a huge fan of Moxie Darling's stories from the moment that the Flower Child series landed in my lap (aka, kindle). And i am LOVING the Possum Hollow series just as much if not more! Jethro is the second in this series, followed by Merle, and it was just as intense, erotic, and oddly enough, romantic as Merle was. It's so hard not to write spoilers about books that you love! Anyway, Jethro is an outcast, a scarred and crippled outcast that has grown accustomed of his lonely life after decades away from the woman he loves. The woman who betrayed him. Until one fateful day, where he saves her life and everything spins out of control for the both of them. I liked Dreama, she's Merle's sister, and we only heard about her a little bit in Merle so i was glad to get to known her in this story. I didn't think i would like her but she grew on me a lot by the end of the story and i hope we get to see her in book 3. Just like the first book in the Possum Hollow series, the steamy scenes are exactly what any lover of erotic fiction wants. There's always an underlining of affection between the characters from the start and that is what makes these stories so great.
It always amazes me how this author gives me something I don't find in any other book. She goes were no one else goes. I could be reading a part of the book and think "noooooo, really!" This story in short words just shows you a light at the end of the tunnel. These characters have close to nothing, their bodies and self esteem have been continuously beaten down but they have big hearts. And they deserve better. Here you will find gritty, rough, dirty and hard. Dreama has been abused for as long as she can remember and she has been punishing herself for previous mistakes. Jethro has been lonely and hated since he was a child. They both find hope at the moment they remember what life used to be before everything went to hell. They both needed each other and needed to feel important and valuable to someone, to each other. Inside the ugliness that is life presented here, there is still beauty.
Omg!! 👀 Have you ever read something and been like what did i just read?? That was me! Seriously! I was reading this amazing book, next thing i knew i was blinking looking around expecting to see Jethro, and all the gang from Possum Hollow in my living room. This book was written so well, the characters come to life in front of your eyes. Jethro, I feel for him. I keep hearing Jenny's voice in Forest Gump, Run Jethro Run.... well that is me imagining it in certain places. I can't say enough with out giving to much away!! Read the synopsis, then buy this book!! Tell them Debbie said so!!
Jethro is another well written book by Moxie Darling. This one is yet another dark book that takes you on the scary side of Possum Hollow. The plot of this story is one I can sadly see happening which makes it quite scary. This kind of abuse I am sure happens all over the place and one can only hope that people will grow above their circumstances and find the help they need to get the life they truly deserve. It also makes you try to be one of those people who hopefully see the signs and want to be there to help.
Jethro is just one of the most darling but sinister characters of this series. He is strong and a great character, but what he has gone through, not because of anything he has actually done, has also made a dark side grow in him. I did enjoy seeing him getting what he actually deserved in this book as well as some revenge for what was done to him!
Dreama, oh wow, I have to say in the last book I was not a real fan of hers. Yes I get it, it is tough growing up in Possum Hollow but I still didn't get her. The author should opened my eyes this time around and I can only admire how strong Dreama is. Sadly many women like her exist and I can't even imagine how many never make help themselves and escape.
This book is on the dark side but I still enjoyed it a lot. There are some very explicit scenes, and some of them very definitely not pleasant so this is not for the faint of heart. Moxie Darling is an excellent author and knows how to develop her characters in her books. I have read all the books in this "series" but it is not necessary to understand each to read them all.
Moxie was kind enough to offer me a copy of this book.
I was so excited to have been offered this book then I started reading and I was like oh no I don't think I am going to like this. Domestic abuse is not a topic I have ever felt comfortable reading. However, I continued on and wow I'm so glad I did. Dreama and Jethro are best friends until one day Dreama's pa takes her to a secluded lake and her life is changed forever. She is forced to say things about Jethro which results in him being banished from Possum at 13. Dreama spends the next 16 years in self destruct mode until one day Jethro saves her from a brutal beating. I really didn't like Dreama for what she put Jethro through and what he had to endure because of her lies. But the more I read the more I understood her. There was something different about this book. The writing felt different. More... I don't know mature maybe. Moxie is really growing into her writing and I'm looking forward to more tales from Possum and it's residents.
I waited patiently (or maybe not so patiently) for this book to release and it was definitely worth the wait. Jethro's story was heartbreaking. The things that he went through for the girl that he has always loved would have destroyed a lesser man. Does that mean that he was a good man? You'll just have to read it to see. Dreama was less likeable in the beginning but believe me that she will grow on you and make you love her. The other residents of Possum Hollow are just as vile and immoral as ever. I can't wait to take another trip to Possum Hollow and peek into the lives of the people that I love and love to hate.
I'm so crushing on a crippled bearded guy in Possum Hollow! Jethro was the second installment of the Possum Hollow series and let me tell you, the book did not disappoint. Dreama wasn't my favorite character from the first book Merle but, her character redeemed herself once we learned her back story. I can't wait for book 3 in this series! Who could the next book be about? Hurry and tell us Moxie!
This is the 2nd book to the series where you get to meet Jethro who is part of the hollows past as he is an outcast. To say that this is another great read would be an understatement. You can't help but to not only feel for Jethro but really like him. He has been abused most of his life but still has a heart. We also get the chance to learn more about Merle's wayward but maybe not so wayward sister Dreama and how if you doubt it how much more evil Amaleen can be.
This was a fantastic read. Strong characters, redemption for Dreama (who I was not feeling too positive about after book 1), and a fantastically dark portrayal of an underbelly of society. Loved how original this was in every way, loved the redemption arc, and love the way the conflict was handled, especially at the end. I would read a hundred books set in Possum Hollow. Hope she will finish the series!
I absolutely loved Jethro's story. He did not deserve to be treated the way everyone treated him, and all because of Deama. These two were perfect for each other, but look at everything they both went through. It was so wonderful getting back to Possum Hollow, it has been to long. I highly recommend this book.
I volunteered to read an Advanced Readers Copy of this book
After reading the first book in the Possum Hollow series I wondered what was going to happen to Merle's sister Dreama and her innocent little boy. Well Moxie didn't disappoint and what a creative original hero in Jethro. I couldn't put the book down til the last page was turned. Another exciting read by Moxie!
It is a darker romance for these characters. They are surrounded by all kinds of trauma and abuse. Through it all, they find themselves connected.
I like stories that have darker characters. They are not evil but don't always make the best choices. It makes for an interesting read. This couple has a connection that is so intense.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Jethro has been an outcast from the only place he has known for far too long and to make the sting of that hurt worse, he didn't do what he was accused of. The reason he is the broken man (literally) that he is, is because he was protecting the girl he loved. She turned on him and caused the trauma that his life has endured. He hates her and yet when he hears something very bad happening and realizes it is her, he still tries to help. His heart aches for her still...after everything he has gone through.
Dreama is married with a child of her own. Her husband is a cheat, a liar and beats her. He had children from many and he struts around town like he is the king of it. Well, Dreama knows a thing or two about this man, she despises him. The only reason she stays is their son, and because she loves her son so much she is willing to endure many things. Her thoughts is she made her bed, now she has to lie in it. She doesn't sugar coat it for herself or anyone.
Dreama is up to absolutely no good, and is trying to teach her cheating husband a lesson, the only issue is, she is the one paying the price, and the cost HE is giving out, and there is a lot of fury going into his beating this time. It just so happens that during this Jethro comes and saves Dreama. At the cost of him being beaten up pretty good, but this time Jethro was able to do some damage to the jerk. Waking up outside on the ground, more broken than before (and believe me when I tell you the book does go through his brokenness and what happened....if I were there I would make those people suffer like they made him suffer) but gets going back to his "normal" routine all over again.
He is caught off guard when Dreama appears on his private property. He thinks she is trying to end it all and refuses to allow that to happen. Despite all she put him through he can't allow her to do that. They banter a little and talking starts to happen. Old wounds heal but slowly, and these old wounds/scars are reopening a bit. But little by little Jethro and Dreama face the truth, there is nothing that can keep them apart. Things heat up between them quickly, and stay heated. He even meets her little boy, and believe it or not it is a great thing for both Jethro and Dreama's son. A healing begins.
But just as that healing begins for the two of them, actually three, dear old jerk hubby gets a final say into her a little bit. He literally sells her while he is there to collect and make sure the customer gets what he pays for. Classy right?!?! It also just so happens Jethro overhears Dreama's son crying and finds out why. The grown sons of classy jerk husband, who live with Dreama are hurting her son. Jethro takes matters into his own hands at the same time Dreama comes out of the bedroom and what she is going through gets exposed. Now Jethro is so far gone with outrage it can't be stopped.
Twists have been happening throughout the whole tale, but what happens next is a huge deal. It is raw, emotional and shows how Jethro and Dreama can put aside their past and start building a future together, including having Dreama's brothers blessing. It has the means of more to this story, which would be awesome. Jethro does get his say, and the real story of how he became broken while protecting Dreama is told. Merle, is Dreama's brother, is also learning of this at the time the town does. Needless to say how this situation is handled is in this book too.
I have to say Moxie has done it again, never does she disappoint with any of her books. Once again a fantastic book, with grit and sweat and tears, and all sorts of emotions run with you while you go through the journey these two go through.
5/5 - Another stellar novel by Moxie Darling that does not disappoint! Dark, sexy & undeniably dirty!
Jethro is the continuation of the Possum Hollow series which follows a different set of characters while at the same time letting us check in on some of those we met previously. This time around, however, things get way more twisted in the hollow and secrets that were thought to have been dead, rear their ugly heads once more.
"The only thing she could offer him was the truth. It was a vicious gift. One with sharp teeth and raised hackles. And it howled at them like a coyote in the night." - Moxie Darling, Jethro
Jethro is as much of a hero as he is a victim. He’s not perfect by any means and in the end that is what makes him that much greater. He may not be your typical novel hunk but he’s still hot. And he can swing a stick like nobody’s business. Pun intended.
Dreama is… well, broken. She’s got issues longer than a grocery list and it’s going to take a lot of time before she can cross things off. With a past that is entirely dark and living in a current life that is almost darker, Dreama has a lot of life changing decisions to make before it's too late. Luckily, she isn't as entirely alone as she thinks. Misery loves company but in this case the company is ready to help fight by her side!
"It didn't matter what she wanted. The holler would always have its way with her. And so would the men Tommy sold her to." - Moxie Darling, Jethro
Jethro is much darker than Merle, the first Possum Hollow novel, and has a lot of sinister twists that keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. M. Darling once again paints a vivid image of a backwoods settlement, filled with all sorts of characters - both vile and loyal. Hands down, Jethro (and Moxie Darling) are not to be missed out on! I can't wait to see where this series takes us next, because if the Hollow has shown us anything so far, it's how evil has no limits and the least suspected could actually be heroes.
