Charlie and Drake begin the winter with hopes for a Christmas honeymoon in a secluded mountain cabin. They will stay all winter and operate a helicopter skiing service at the famed Taos Ski Valley, while Charlie works long-distance with her brother's RJP Investigations for the duration of the ski season.
No sooner have they settled into their cozy cabin than the mysteries begin to pile up. Drake's assistant, Eloy Romero, is accused of a murder and the evidence looks damning. Charlie agrees to look into the case and finds herself drawn into the world of the Taos art community, with ties to the Catholic church and stolen religious artifacts.

"Shelton again has done a superb job in bringing New Mexico to life in her colorful, vivid description... Readers can only hope the likable characters, fast-paced plots and local color will continue." -- Albuquerque Journal
My love of books started with weekly trips to the library as a child and from the moment I learned to read I can't remember a time that I didn't have at least one book going. For the past 25 years, that list has grown to include what I'm reading and what I'm writing at any given time.
I began writing my Charlie Parker series when my husband and I lived on Kauai, then continued them in my home state of New Mexico. Charlie lives in Albuquerque and manages to travel to a variety of locations, wherever her investigation business and her husband's helicopter business take them. My second series featuring Samantha Sweet, the 50-ish woman who breaks into houses for a living, is set in Taos, New Mexico.
In addition to reading and writing, I've traveled quite a lot, taught writing courses, and been a speaker at a whole lot of mystery conventions and writing conferences. In my spare time I also love to paint, draw, cook and spend time at the beach.
SUMMARY: It's Christmas and Charlie and Drake are finally able to go on their honeymoon. It's a mixed blessing--they get to spend three months at the famed Taos Ski Valley, but Drake will be working as he shuttles skiers to the top of the mountain with his helicopter. When Drake's assistant, Eloy Romero, is accused of killing his own brother, a Catholic priest, Charlie offers to help sort out the clues. Drawn into the art world for which Taos is known, Charlie begins to uncover connections between the murdered priest and the theft of millions of dollars in religious artifacts. As the pieces click into place, she finds that she and Drake are placing their lives on the line.
REVIEW: This is a new-to-me author and I really enjoyed this cozy mystery. The characters are interesting and realistic. Charlie is down to earth and very intuitive. Reminds me of a grown-up Nancy Drew or a younger Jessica Fletcher. She's daring enough without being over the top. I will definitely be reading more of this series.

I wanted to be Nancy Drew as a kid. Now I am an accountant so want is not to like about Charlie Parker. She did make some illogical choices, which I guess were needed to advance the plot. But really, accountants are very much ruled by doing the logical and ethical thing. It is what we do best. It does make me want to see New Mexico, especially Santa Fe (not the primary setting).
Well I have to say that I couldn't have been more pleased with my rather random choice!
Set in northern New Mexico, Charlie and her brand-new husband, Drake, finally get to take their honeymoon after a whirlwind of a wedding, when they get an offer to stay in a secluded ski cabin up in Taos.
Charlie has just finished getting licensed to fly a helicopter and her husband Drake is a helicopter pilot. While their honeymoon is going to be mostly relaxation and seclusion for newlyweds, Drake has agreed to help his friend, Eloy, out with a bit of heli-skiing work.
Suddenly, Eloy is accused of murdering his own brother, a crime committed five years earlier, and he asks Charlie to help out with the investigation since she works as a private investigator. She readily agrees since he is letting them use their cabin.
But as Charlie buries herself deeply into investigation she ends up pulled into an entirely different case of hidden identities. And once that is solved, she still has to figure out the mystery behind ancient relics, a murdered priest, and perhaps even the cabin she is staying in!
Will Charlie successfully solve the mysteries? Will she be able to clear Eloy's name, or is there something more sinister going on in his family? And are there people out there who want the secret to stay buried, and at any cost?

While I had never read a Charlie Parker mystery before (this is the 6th in the series) I was immediately captured by the darling relationship she shares with her new husband. They are such a sweet, newlywed couple. The best part is that this is a clean romance. While there are themes of religion, it isn't religious fiction, per se, but the novel is still clean. We know they are newlyweds, but there is no detail or specifics about their romantic relationship as husband and wife.
I was not able to guess the mystery either, which I really appreciate in a book! Who wants to know who the killer is from page number ten?
I was definitely drawn in and listened to almost the whole thing during the drive! Plus, the narration was fantastic!
I will definitely be picking up other Charlie Parker mysteries in the future!
Charlie Parker is an accountant in partnership with her brother in their private investigation company in Albuquerque. Charlie has recently wed Drake Langston, helicopter pilot from Hawaii. They decide to take a long winter honeymoon in Taos, where Drake will provide helicopter rides to skiers and tourists. When a new acquaintance in Taos is charged with a 5-year-old unsolved murder, Charlie agrees to investigate. She also agrees to check into the circumstances under which an heiress acquired a fortune and cut other relatives out of the inheritance. Charlie and Drake and her dog Rusty stay in a cabin in the woods above Taos, where Charlie discovers historic art. The story moves at a good pace, hard to put down, with plenty of clues uncovered by Charlie's actions. She works together with her brother and law enforcement, narrowly escaping danger at times, to bring the criminals to justice. ”
Disclaimer: I am the author of this book. Charlie and Drake are on their honeymoon, a three-month getaway to a secluded mountain cabin near the Taos ski area. When Drake's assistant is accused of a murder that took place five years earlier, Charlie agrees to help find out what really happened. Tangled within the Taos art scene and encountering intrigues within the Church, the web becomes complicated and Charlie finds her life and Drake's in danger.
I read the first of this series and gave it the benefit of the doubt but not sure these are really clicking for me. I have two more downloaded free on my Kindle but not sure they're worth my time?? Wish I could pinpoint the disconnect so I could be more helpful/constructive.
