I recieved this book as an arc in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this book. I love the action and suspense. The rough life that Gemma has had to endure. Trying to avoid the rough life she had only to end up in a situation as before. Going thru everything she went thru and still in the end having a happily ever after. I loved it. Karina u are a great author. My kind of books. I can't wait to read the rest of ur books.
The past has its hooks in Gemma, and history seems destined to repeat itself. However, this tough, determined woman has not merely survived life. She has been honed by her experiences. Her scars may leave her lamenting the lost splendor of her youth, but in Karina Kantas’s cleverly written, breakneck-paced Road Rage, we soon learn that the true beauty of a woman like Gemma is beneath the surface, laying in wait for the right opportunity, the right man, and the right family to come along.
The Book:
Road Rage is the fourth in a series of stand-alone MC (Motorcycle Club) dark-romance novels written by Karina Kantas. It was released in January of 2022, making it only a few months old at the time I was fortunate enough to read this short, tightly paced novel. It follows Gemma, a woman with a past tied to the world of track racing, MCs, and the rough, visceral lifestyle that comes along with them. A chance, unexpected encounter with a handsome gent leads her back down a long, dark road she thought she had left behind her.
The Plot:
Gem is not exactly thriving as we meet her. She is coasting through a mediocre life; she was bored, but at least that kept her safe, for the moment, from the shadows of her chequered past. When she least expects it, she comes face to face with a man whose very presence tantalizes her beyond reason. She is taken with the man, immediately. He is everything she has been missing in her life, and as luck would have it, he seems every bit as interested in her.
Tossing caution to the wind to chase happiness and fulfillment once again, Gem finds herself traveling those old, familiar roads from which she barely escaped in one relatively whole piece, last time. She does not shy away from a challenge, though.
That’s not Gemma’s style.
The Critique:
This is not the kind of book I usually read. In fact, truth be told, if it wasn’t for the fact that I have come to know and respect the author so much, I might not have picked this up and given it a chance, at all.
I am glad that I did, however, and not only because it is a great story. And it is, that.
Karina Kantas does not mess around when it comes to moving the story forward, and much like the characters in this book, as a reader it sometimes feels like I am barely holding onto the handlebars, careening within a hair’s breadth of losing control and ditching this ride she has me on. It never happens, though. The thrill is getting right to that edge, where the pace of the novel demands your undivided attention, then whips you off in a new direction.
Gemma must feel it, too… this sensation that if she doesn’t assert herself and hold on tight, she won’t be able to salvage things and find her happily ever after.
There is no confining structure to this story. It is a relatively short story, and a very quick read, but it is also pretty much one big chapter, so it feels like you and Gemma have been through a lot by the time you get to ‘The End.’
The Verdict:
Yeah. I can see the appeal of modern dark-romance stories, now. It took Karina Kantas to get me there, but I can appreciate this genre a lot more having experienced it through her keen eye and deftly crafted words.
There isn’t really anything in this book that would be impossible to imagine happening in real life, and that verisimilitude lends it a relatability that I wasn’t expecting to enjoy as much as I did. I wouldn’t say I am a convert, but if anyone is going to entice me to read another story of this kind, again, it’s going to be this author.
The Rating:
On a scale of 1-5, I am giving Road Rage a FIVE out of FIVE, though that is rounding up. It is no indictment of the book, itself, or of its author. The quality and craft are on full display, here. It is simply not the kind of story that a fantasy/sci-fi nerd like me would ever be able to consider perfect or ideal in my eyes. Bump that scale up to 1-10, and it’s a NINE out of TEN, for me. It is not merely competent, but cleverly constructed, exhilaratingly paced, and enticing enough to win over a D&D dweeb like yours truly. I can’t give a book much higher praise than that.
Road Rage is Book Four of the Outlaw Series. Gem is working in a supermarket and doing her best to live a normal life. To remain safe, she has chosen to distance herself from everyone to break free from the life she had that was full of violence and drugs when she belonged to an outlaw motorcycle club.
Things change suddenly when Gem meets a good-looking biker by the name of Shep while she is at work at the supermarket. She can't help but feel attracted to him and is intrigued by the fact that Shep happens to belong to another outlaw motorcycle club. She finds herself drawn in by this and before long she is introduced back into the world of outlaw motorcycle clubs. When she is first introduced to Shep's Club, Rage, the, members of the club won't accept her, and she feels like an outsider. It is only after she proves herself through her racing that she starts to garner the attention of the other members of Rage, and she begins to feel like more of an equal. Until that point in time, she is arm candy on Shep's arm who treats her like she is his just to boost up his ego.
As Gem becomes more heavily involved into the club, she also becomes more involved in Rage’s activities that aren't exactly legal. She finds herself coming face-to-face with her past and the outlaw motorcycle gang that she was once a part of. Gem finds herself battling for her life and fears she may not survive what they have in store for her. It takes all her strength and determination to try to remain strong and try to find a way to save her own life.
I loved the character of Gem and found it a nice change that there was such a strong female lead. She was tough as nails and didn't put up with anything from anyone. Of course, as you read through the book and learn of her backstory, she wasn't given much of a choice but to be strong. Gem learned early on in her life how to stand up for herself and defend herself from those that only intended to harm her. This book can very easily be read as a stand-alone but now that I have read it, I will be going back and reading the first few books in The Outlaw series.
WOAH! I got to say this book was a trip in the most amazing way. I could really feel the story and the characters that it contained. I loved the adventurous side of the story, and how I found morals came into play, would you risk everything for acceptance? I was hooked and really enjoyed this book! I had not read the prior books in the series, but I most definably am going to now!
Gem was very relatable. She stayed more less on the "legal" side of the tracks. She had secrets of her own, and when they slowly came to light I found her character development was undeniable. I loved her as a person even more! Throw in Shep, so shows her his side of the tracks. The chemistry was undeniable. Was it true though? Is this what Gem wanted? Would she risk the safe life she knew for a chance to be with Shep and the people he toured the road with?
I found that was where Gem's character development comes into play. To fit in, she had to risk all she knew as being safe. And take a trip of something she always felt so against. The outcome and ending of this book came with a fistful and punch! I was amazed as I read. I could not put this book down, and was seriously left wanting more when the ending sneakily creeped up on me! Loved it truly! Amazing book!
Loved this book. And I must with no doubt, read the prior boos in this amazing series I just came across! I really recommend this author and their book. As well as their series. It was so freaking good. I could not put this one down literally. Very highly recommend! Defiantly a a rare treat to be enjoyed!
Road Rage (Outlaw #4) is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. I didn't have any trouble not reading the other books in the series. With that said, honestly, I didn't love this book and I didn't hate it. The beginning of the book jumped right into the story. No time wasted. The majority of the book, I didn't know exactly how much time had elapsed. I couldn't tell if it had been days, weeks, or months. There were times in the book where I wanted more details and descriptions of the characters so that I could connect with them better. I feel there were times in Shep and Gem's relationship where I was told what happened, but wasn't given very many details. I don't want to spoil the story, but I liked Gem and the man she got with a lot and loved their story. Gem had such a hard life and deserved someone great. Although this book wasn't my favorite, that doesn't mean someone else won't love it!
*I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
This is the Fourth book of the Outlaw series, which is a standalone.
Gem, A strong independent fierce girl indulging by her past. She has been suffered a lot by her past but that didn't stop her from achieving her dreams. She met with Shep, a Biker.
He took her to racing club, Rage,A Motorcycle Gang where she proved herself but showed the real truth of her life. She enraged, broke but stand again. She is been dragged to slum.
How will she save herself?
This is my third book of Karina Kantas and I must say I am in love with her writing. It is looking like story where a strong woman is fighting for herself but It is more than that. Surviving from her violent past and overcome the fear of ther life gives a inspiration and strength. A combination of love, violence, rage, dominance. This can broke you and inspire you at the same time. The situation created to give the theme a real touch is impressive. Looking forward to read more books from her.
5 Star Road Rage (Outlaw Series Book 4) by Katrina Kantas
Road Rage is the fourth book in the Outlaw Series and can be read as a standalone. This is a MC that once you start reading you will find yourself lost in the pages and won’t be able to put it down until you’ve finished. I’m a huge fan of this author and I’ve read other books by this one is my favorite by far. It’s everything you expect from an MC and more. This is about Gem and Shep (from Rage). She’s ’s got experience with MC's as she used to be in one. Now she’s trying to move forward from the past but now finds herself in a situation. Shep is a rider and is part of Rage a local MC. These two meet at a local grocery store where Gem currently works. There is definitely chemistry between and both have secrets. Can she survive another MC? There’s plenty of action going on and the twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. It’s definitely worth the time. I look forward to reading more from this Author.
This isn't the first book I've read by the author. It is my first time reading anything in this series. Road Rage jumps right into the story and it's fast paced. The characters were a love-hate thing, but overall a great book.
Doc has wanted Gem since she was on Shep's arm, but didn't push his luck. Now that Shep is out of the picture he's got his chance. Can he make Gem see that not all of them are bad? The quote I chose for Doc is: “You’re right, sorry. It’s just I’ve wanted you for so long. I’ve been fantasising about having you, and I worried that this was just a dream, that I’d wake up in my bed alone, then cleaning up after another wet dream.”
Gem isn't sure what is making her go down this path again. Can Rage MC be different from the Hawks? She is about to find out that it's the same, if not rougher. The quote I chose for Gem is: “I can’t move. I’ve been trying to move my legs and arms, but I can’t.”
Gem is such a strong, amazing woman. She doesn't take crap from anyone, she's tenacious and she isn't afraid to go after what she wants. She's been through so much in life, but she doesn't let that steal away thoughts of a happily ever after for her. Shep introduces her to Rage but she knows from the beginning that he isn't forever, he's just for right now. There is betrayal and violence in this story that I didn't see coming but Gem is a strong woman and she doesn't let life keep her down for long. She keeps getting knocked down but always drags herself back up and she manages to truly find herself and her destiny along the way. This is a book with a lot of violence, but it also has some beautiful heart melting moments as well. You definitely won't want to miss this one if you enjoy MC romances.
This is a great book with plenty of action. The story is about those MC'S we all love to read about. This story is how Gem left one outlaw MC and found herself in another. Thanks to the handsome Rage rider Shep. Gem is more than a tough girl, she is a beast! She is strong and knows how to defend herself. Shep though is not who I expected him to be. Having said that! This is one book you will want to read. This is a new author for me and she has written this fast paced and thrilling story. I am looking forward to reading more from her. Now I must go and read the others in this series. As there is so much more to this series. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did. As this author will open your eyes to yet another MotorcycleClub.
This book is full of so much romance and suspense that it will feel like your riding a roller coaster. This novel really had an adventurous side to it and it really showed the real side of certain morals. I found myself really liking and connecting with our lead character Gemma. Gemma has had a rough life and she been trying to get away from it but when her secrets start coming out she became even more relatable. Bring in Shep and can he show her a better life? You’ll have to read this novel for yourself to find out. While I have no read the previous books in the series, I definitely plan on reading them now.
Oohh I love a good MC romance read and this book was right up my street! I was hooked from beginning to end and I definitely need to read the others in the series now! Gem was a brilliant character, I loved her for the moment I started reading about her. She was a pretty complex person but as her story progressed as did her character, she really was amazing to read about. It’s really refreshing to read about a female lead who holds her own and I think that it was I loved her so much, she’d been through so much that meant her life could have taken another path but she stayed strong! A fantastic read and I’m pretty sure all MC romance lovers would love this book! I’m off to read more from this author now!!
I haven’t been reading MC books for very long, but have certainly come to love them. This is the fourth book in the series, but this is the first one I have read. Having a hard past, Gem is a strong woman who has overcome a lot. Meeting Shep, was a thrill for Gem, but is she going to end up the same place she was before? I absolutely love the grittiness of a good MC story, and this one did not disappoint me. I was on the edge of my seat till the end.
Road Rage is the fourth book in the OUTLAW series by Karina Kantas. This is a story full of tension and intrigue, woven through a dark MC romantic suspense that had me wondering about the outcome right from the beginning. This isn’t my first book from Ms. Kantas, but it is probably my favourite, so far. With intensity, emotion, interesting characters and storyline, a fast pace, MC politics, danger, violence, drama, chemistry, spice, betrayal, and more- this book made for a bit of a thrill-ride! There were moments where the story slowed down or lagged a bit, and parts where I would have like to have seen just a little more detail and development- but this didn’t detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the story. Happy Reading!
This is the first book of Karina's I have read, but it won't be the last. This book has it all Fast Bikes, Danger, live and betrayal. All wrapped inside a well written novel. I love how the author takes us along for the ride with just a teaser of the fast paced lifestyle of the outlaw MC clubs. Cannot wait to read more from this Author
Gem is a strong heroine. Very well versed in bikes and gangs. The book is meant to be a series... read it alone or with it. It is great writing. fast paced story.
This book was hard for me to rate, so my review will reflect that. I am a fan of dark romance and other dark readings, so that is also reflected here.
3.75 rounded up.
The good: I did enjoyed the overall story of this book, and reading about Gem’s evolution into Rage (the Motorcycle Club) and the glimpses of her backstory and how she came to be when she met Shep. Gem does get her HEA with her man, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about her building that relationship and allowing it to thrive. I also really enjoyed the street racing aspect and the adrenaline that came from reading those scenes.
The so-so: I feel like some of the flashbacks would have in fact been better placed sooner in the books, especially some of Gem’s flashbacks to her time with the Hawks. (That transition in the book seemed to be thrust on us out of nowhere.) I felt like there wasn’t enough time to recover from her trauma in the flashbacks to then jumping into the contemporary trauma she was experiencing. Normally when I read a dark series I like to read about characters who, despite their trauma, are strong and willing to fight back, and while Gem does, it’s done in a way that leaves me left wanting. I found the romance aspect of this book lacking as well as there was almost no actual sex scenes that occurred, were just told there was sex between the characters, or that it was good or the best sex of Gem’s life, and then the only real description of a sex scene is traumatic for the character.
Disclaimer: I have not read the other books in the series, and by this book I don’t think I will. This book is not the first I’ve read by this author, so when I saw it and the synopsis I was excited; however it fell flat for me. This book was originally published in 2013, making it 9 years old at the time of this review, and the author’s writing has come a long way since. I just couldn’t get behind the writing here. It’s definitely a case of telling, not showing. I also felt that it wasn’t the smoothest in its transitions from one situation to the next.
Cw: drug use, violence against women, domestic violence, detailed description of fist fighting, sexual and nonsexual assault, active rape, motor cycle club culture.
Road Rage (Outlaw Series Book 4) by Karina Kantas 3 Stars
Gem used to be with the MC Hawks with whom she has a violent past but after leading a quiet life for a couple of years, she yearns for the adrenaline rush again. After joining Rage, she realizes that this MCis not so different from the last. This is an MC romantic suspense story. It involves some danger, drama and betrayal. I love MC stories and I had never read a book by this author before so I was excited to pick this one up.
It’s very different from the usual ones that I read. First off, it’s about a motorcycle gang with speed bikes and racing, not Harleys. Second, the main character is a tough as nails female, which was nice. Although part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. My issue with the book is that I felt that there could have been more development with the relationships between the characters. It seemed as though the author wanted to tell a story but skimmed over all the details, there was no depth. I couldn’t connect to the characters. It could be because I hadn’t read the other books in the series so that could be my fault. Most of the time I didn’t know how much time had passed between events; days, weeks? It is a fast paced story which I find the author had to squeeze within a limit of pages.
A high-octane story with lots of danger and excitement. Gemma is unable to resist the siren call of the hot new MC, Rage. She loves to drive fast and live large, and protection and respect that comes with being a member of a powerful brotherhood. The motorcycle races that the club sets up for her are thrilling, and leave her breathless for more. But as the stakes get higher, and emotions run high, Gemma's increasingly angry and risky driving puts her in danger. She's also gained an enemy or two who want to see her dead. Will the club be the family she is seeking, and be able to stop those who wish her harm?
This story is fast-paced, exciting, and action-heavy. I found it to be well-written, and easy to imagine myself in the thick of the action. I was a bit disturbed by some of the violence, particularly towards Gemma, and the sexual expectations that some people had of her being a woman in that world. However, she is a strong character, and navigated these with aplomb. A gritty, dangerous read.
I really loved this story. It is a fast paced romance featuring bikers which I love. One of the things I really like was that the female character in this story is a strong determined woman who take no rubbish off anyone. This is refreshing because most stories of this kind the female feels like a more submissive person out of the couple.
Gem has had a very bad past life and she has finally got herself back on track. After leaving a biker gang she vowed never again. That is until she met Shep. Shep seemed different to the other guys. The whole group seemed different but was her instincts wrong about him?
What follows is a story of one womans struggle to fit into a world which is male dominated. How far will Gem or and what will she put up with to be accepted? Will she ever find true love within the MC? And what happens when her past and present collide with very dangerous consequences?
When Gem gets the attention from a hot guy while she's working, she is flattered and excited to maybe try this dating thing again. When she finds out he is a member of the local MC, she is hoping this time will be different than the last. She learns quickly that it isn't. She is quickly involved in a world of bike racing, sex, violence, and having to prove herself time and time again. Is this the life she wants? Or is it time to walk away, again, and start over?
This book pulls you in from the beginning and does not let you go. There is so much action and there never feels like there is a moment of calm. Gem is a strong lead character with a backstory that will break your heart...all while reinforcing how strong and resilient she is. Doc is such a good character that I found myself getting attached to pretty quickly. Overall, a really good story that had my attention from beginning to end.
Gemma is battling the demons from her past as she tries to find a footing in her future. Her attraction to Shep, a street racer, puts her eerily close to a lifestyle from which she is trying to break free. As the new MC starts to feel like family to Gemma, she finds herself in difficult situations. Gemma finds a true support and partner in Doc. Doc is there through hellish episodes, cementing his place in Gemma’s life.
This book moves at lightning speed. It gets a little confusing at times when they don’t discuss the time jump but as the story moves along, you can figure out the timing. It is hard to believe Gemma makes it through so much in this book and, as her history is revealed, in life. Gemma is strength and resilience. Hopefully Doc is her HEA.
This book contains depictions of assault and rape. Do not read if you find yourself triggered by those topics.
Pros: 1) I am a sucker for strong female characters and I loved the way Gemma was picturized throughout the storyline. Something about women clad in leather jacket with a badass attitude gives me kick to shout out 'Go-Girls'!
2) I have always liked the edgy storylines crafted by Karina Kantas and Road Rage is no different. The plot is fast paced and and written in a very appealing manner.
3) I liked the subtle chemistry between Doc and Gemma while she was already going out with Shep, the RAGE racer. The crackling chemistry between our femme fatale and Doc kept me turning the pages in anticipation.
👎Cons: 1) A lot of characters were introduced which I felt did not have much to do in the storyline. I wished the author could have given a solid backstory for some of the characters which could have justified their presence.
2) The first half of the plot was a bit slow paced as it was setting the context. I felt the story picking up from the 2nd half as that's when the real action started.
Road Rage (Outlaw Series Book 4) by Katrina Kantas. I love this series and this 4th book was no different. Even though its a series book it can be read as a standalone. Its about Gemma who is a strong women who has been thru a lot of stuff in her life. Gemma has had to run for a large part of her life and that includes running with a Motorcycle outlaw group. Gemma stays for the most part on the legal side of stuff but the others don't. When Gemma enters Rage they are not doing things legal and she gets wrapped up in their mess. Enter Shep, who is so handsome and he wants her to go with him and do things legally. Will Gemma be able to give up her security of being with all the members of Rage even though some things they do aren't on the up and up. She is attracted to Shep so much but she is scared. Read Road Rage to find out what choice Gemma makes!
This was a good 4 star read. Gem is working at the supermarket when she meets someone who eventually introduces her to Rage. She misses being part of a family and she craves being a part of Rage. It's not easy and the man she thought she knew turned into a monster. There is someone else who comes into the picture and he is great for her. There is a twist and her past ends up coming back to haunt her.
Gem is a very strong character that has been through alot of dark painful things. She definitely knows how to take care of herself, she is a fighter for sure. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. I will warn there are some scenes that could cause triggers for some. Overall I did enjoy it and I look forward to reading more from this author and series. This can be read as a stand alone. 1-click and get started today.
I am new to this stand alone series, Road Rage being the first book I’ve read. It has been a long time since I read a motorcycle club book and I’ve never read one by this author so I was really excited. Overall, I liked the book a lot. Gem was a really relatable character, tough and someone you wanted happiness for. The flow of the book was “weird” for me. I don’t remember at what point of the story that I discovered I felt parts were rushed… maybe it was reading tired in bed that caused the confusion. I wish there was an indication of how much time had passed in between each big event throughout the plot. I loved the high intensity and action in the last quarter of the book and felt like the ending was strong. I would definitely recommend this book if you like MC reads with strong characters and high intensity action.
I had so many mixed emotions with this story. I actually had started it and found myself just feeling overwhelmed and stopped. Ok now this isn’t a bashing review just hang with me real quick. This story had so much going on and in the beginning it seemed just super rushed and a jumble of stuff going on. You may feel the same but please listen to this next part! Keep reading because this author is about to blow you away with a story you can’t miss. Gem is a character that absolutely stole my whole heart with her kick butt attitude and her loyalty to those important to her. This book definitely has some difficult subjects but the author puts a lot of feeling into them. Connecting with the characters was so easy. Again please if you feel it’s rushed and a lot going on push on it’s so very worth it! If I could give more than five stars I would! Highly recommended!
This is the fourth book of the series but can be read as a standalone. There was a lot to unpack with this book but once you get sucked in you can’t help but keep reading! I couldn’t put it down.
Gem hasn’t had it easy but now she’s playing it safe. That is until she meets Shep and his MC. Everything is fine until it starts taking a turn for the worst. So much happens, it was hard to keep straight at first but you definitely get sucked in and have to keep reading to see how it plays out.
Gem is a great character. She is tough and you can’t help but root for her and her happiness. She’s an easy character to relate to. There are some tough subjects that are broached but I think the author did a very good job touching on them. I am definitely going to have to read the other books in the series.
This book is an emotional roller coaster. You are going to need some tissues and a strong stomach to make it through. It is an amazing book, I highly recommend reading it if you don't have any triggers. There is a lot of abrasive scenes played out through the whole book. That aside the story line of this book is amazing. It kept me turning the page and reading as fast as I could through the whole book. I couldn't put it down, I had to know what happened next. There is huge character development for the leading lady in this story. She is a bada$$ with an amazing will to survive the crap life has dealt her. There are times you will want to smack her but seriously who makes the best decisions all the time. Having a book be able to pull that type of emotion out of the reader is a true testament as to how well it is written. I highly recommend this book as an escape from reality.
This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites by her yet. This is a MC romance story that has a little bit of everything in it. A story that pulled me in from the beginning. This is a well written story about Gem. She has a past she is trying to move on from until she meets Rage and that life seems to be pulling her back in. They are strong characters with great chemistry and great growth throughout the story. There are some twists and turns that you are not going to want to miss. This is a story that is full of action, romance, and was just hard to put down. A well rounded story that will pull you into the characters lives and make you want to know what happens next. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.
