Temari, kaleidoscopic, multicolored thread balls, were originally children's toys in ancient Japanese society. This simple craft has since developed into the exquisite art form found in Temari Adventures. Nine delightful new designs, instructions for quick and easy thread and ribbon balls for beginners, and the gorgeous tradition of fabric decorated balls create fabulous quilted effects. The patterns and techniques in Temari Adventures provide a base for infinite variations of color and design.
No in-depth background to the history of this ancient craft, and while a few pages are dedicated to show color examples, the majority of the book is black and white directions. If you can follow written geometric directions, this book can help you learn temari. Both the traditional thread balls as well as three quilt variations are provided.
I'm trying to put together a one-hour class and thinking the quilt variations may work for the short time allowed.
Ugh. Ditto, as my first review on this series by Vandervoort. If you are a visual learner, these books are not for you. Totally uninspiring and hard to follow if you are new to the craft. Instead of embracing this idea, this book made me want to forget the whole thing.
