In January 1946 the wartime covert operations organisation , The Special Operations Executive (S.O.E) was Captain James Doyle as seconded to MI6.
In 1951 a wartime colleague attached to N.A.T.O. Paris was found dead, an apparent suicide.Doyle was instructed to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. It was suspected that sensitive information was being passed to the East Germans and the Soviets and the inference was that his colleague was implicated. The immediate scenario was that he was exposed and took his own life. Doyle would not accept that his friend was a traitor. He replaced him at N.A.T.O.as a liaison officer, his brief was to determine the truth.
