No Way. I can’t be falling for him. No freaking way...,.
Alexandria
I’ve been the acting chief at this station ever since they let Larry go. There’s no reason why they shouldn't make my position official. I’m a seasoned firefighter and I’m the best man for the job. Besides, I need the raise that comes with the promotion. It's the only way I'll ever be able to afford to leave my alcoholic husband and put my daughter in a private school. The last thing I need is someone coming along and screwing it all up.
Chance
When they asked me to leave my small town fire hall and head on out to the big city, I wasn’t keen on the idea. I can think of a million places I’d rather be. But, the ex-wife’s harassing phone calls and visits finally did me in. Before I knew it, I was starting a new life fighting fires in Karawa, New York. It's too bad one of the men on my team keeps challenging my every move. Only, it's not a man. It's the girl I've had a crush on my whole life, the girl I grew up next door to, the one I went all through school with.
Sparks fly, tension explodes, and flames ignite. Will muscular Chance Friedman win the heart of the girl he’s always dreamed about? Or will curvaceous and sassy Alexandria O’Neil come out on top?

Interview with the author
What makes the Big City Heat series special?
This series is special to me for several reasons. I set out to write a firefighter romance series about an alpha chief who ran a tight ship, and Chance was born. While I was mulling through the story in my head, the character of Alexandria came along. I suddenly had a strong female heroine to keep him on his toes.
More than anything I wanted the series to reflect real life situations that people sometimes find themselves in, while still keeping it an enjoyable read. At the same time, it’s full of action, suspense, and romance – the kinds of things that keep me turning the pages.
What order should I read the books in?
Big City Heat is a serial. To get the most out of your reading experience it's best to read them in the following order:
• Light My Fire • I’m On Fire • Ring of Fire
There may be more titles coming in the series depending on where the characters take me. Maybe Chance and Alexandria have more of their story to tell, or maybe one of the other characters in the station house will warrant a spin-off in the series.
Why should I buy this book?
If you love firemen and you’re looking for a romance with twists and turns, this is it. There’s action, drama, love, and the list keeps going.

Misha Carver has been writing romance since she was thirteen. Oh how she wishes she could find that handwritten manuscript. Even before that she had an incredible imagination that used to scare not only her friends, but also herself.
Nowadays, she keeps the figments of her imagination hostage to the written word. There's nothing she loves more that writing sexy romances for her readers to enjoy.
Whether paranormal or contemporary, her stories will satisfy your craving for an escape from the everyday world. Take some time out to embark on a fantasy while the alpha male of your dreams sweeps you off your feet.
Misha lives in Ontario, Canada with her children and two cats. Well, actually three, but one belongs to her mother…Misha's just the caretaker.
In her spare time, she loves reading, listening to music, and watching television. Her favorite television show is House MD - come on, who doesn't love Doctor House. Other than that, she enjoys dreaming of the day an alpha billionaire or a handsome shifter will come and whisk her away into another world. Don't worry. If that ever happens, she'll make sure he'll still let he write…
Such an amazing premise and set up. However, there was not much research on a fireman or firewoman's schedule and life at the station. Then throwing a child with a disability and a drunk husband? Only 2 crucial moments with the daughter. Fire fighters who are women are freaking tough. The Alex can carry her husband based on your description out of a fire. The only way her husband would have been able to beat her is if Mike had been in some law enforcement or body guard. Even under these circumstances one surprise attack I can give you. Any more is asking too much. Fire fighters are a tight knit family who pretty much know what is going on in each of their families. So Anderson and the others would have been aware of Mike and Emily. The abuse could be new.... I could go on but the best I can say would be take this back to the drawing board, research the important elements such as a fire fighters schedule, rework the mother/daughter, father/daughter, Alex/Chance dynamic. I believe all of this will improve your story delivery.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a cute story. Despite it including some intimate partner violence, the book never felt heavy. More than anything, I felt like there was growth and hope surrounding it. Alex is doing what can be so difficult in a relationship like that: leaving it. There's hope for the future without Mike in it, for both her and her 8 year old daughter, Emily. There's also hope for Chance, who has had a thing for Alex since they were younger. Things are definitely headed in the right direction for them and things are looking up in both of their lives. I can't necessarily say it was a HEA ending as the story is far from over, but where their relationship is concerned, it's definitely HFN. Her actions after arriving home and going to work on their pictures however and the resulting danger had me thinking, "Seriously? Idiot." She puts the pictures into a wooden bowl and then douses them with lighter fluid. What did she expect to happen? She is a firefighter after all. All of this being said, this book does end in a cliffhanger. While things between Alex and Chance are going good, the story is not over. I, for one, am definitely curious to find out what happens next for Alex, Emily, and Chance.
This book was so hard to read. It was clear that the author hadn't researched anything about firefighters and how their job worked. And the FMC was hard to read, like the author couldn't decide what type of person she wanted her to be (in one scene strong and decisive, the next submissive and clueless). It also felt like the author tried to cram way too much into such a short story. The daughter started out as a driving force to the MC's motivation, but was barely in the book and honestly felt like the MC didn't care. Overall, I'm sorry but it just wasn't good.
I enjoyed reading Light My Fire. Misha Carver's style of writing is exceptional as she lets you in on what both protagonists are thinking and the emotions and feelings they experience. Some parts I laughed, other parts tugged at my heart strings and I even got a beauty tip! (1/4 cup honey, 1/4 cup brown sugar) All in all, it was an captivating read and looking forward to reading I'm On Fire.
I loved the strong male character Chance who comes across as gentle chivalrous and caring Its easy ti identify with Alex as her life is typical of that of an abusedperson at times a painful feeling comes over the reader at the horrific physical she has t undergoI hope for a happy ending for these two
Alex is on cloud nine walking into her fire station one morning waiting to get her promotion to fire chief after six months of standing in. Her happy little bubble pops when the position is given to a man from out of town. Not just any man either--his name is Chance and he constantly picked on her when they were growing up.
Chance can't understand why Alex is so hostile towards him until, after realizing he doesn't recognize her, she explains why. Sitting in front of him is his Lexi, except she prefers to go by Alex these days. Lexi is the girl he had the biggest crush on growing up, and now after getting the promotion instead of her, she once again hates him. Will they be able to work together and will she ever be able to return his feelings?
This first book is packed with high drama between these two as well as Alex and her husband. I loved the whole story and how it progresses. The only thing that's not my favorite is how Alex is with regards to her husband, but read and you'll see what I mean. Definitely looking forward to see what happens in the next book!

Alex is hoping for her promotion but gets the news someone else has been selected. It is bad enough to lose the job but the new boss is someone who tormented her thru her childhood. Her husband is a drunk and they have a daughter that needs special care. When she starts feeling attracted to her new boss, it really gets complicated.
Chase is trying to get away from his ex. He had a crush on Alex and those feelings are resurfacing. He is her boss and she is married so he is not sure what to do.
It is a very difficult situation for Alex and the story ends on a major cliff-hanger. I look forward to seeing what happens next. It is an interesting storyline and not your usual one. I love surprises so I am pleased to not know exactly what is coming next.
Light My Fire: Big City Heat is the first part of a story and ends in the worst cliffhanger I have ever seen.
Alex expects to become the new fire chief after acting as chief for six months but the bosses bring in a new man from the outside. This starts the downward spiral in her life and Chance her new boss keeps coming to her rescue.
It is not realistic for a firefighter that is emotionally unstable would be allowed to keep working. Her drunken soon to be ex-husband is abusive and she wimps out. I wanted to like her but just couldn't. The shock of the cliffhanger really made me unhappy with the author leaving a story with people in danger, so buy the next episode to see what happens. No Thanks!
Alex O'Neil thinks she's about to be promoted to fire chief when she discovers that not only is the job not hers, but it has been given to an old nuisance of a classmate. Chance Friedman doesn't know Alex was up for the position of fire chief, but upon recognizing her, he can't help but feel all the old emotions that made him misbehave to get her attention.
Problems? Alex is married. ..to an alcoholic on a downward turn. ..her daughter cannot hear... Chase is now her boss. ..and they can't seem to stop the feelings of attraction.

Light My Fire by Misha Carver is a fairly quick read. This book does end in a cliff-hanger. Ms Carver had my attention from start right up to the cliff-hanger...at which point I wanted the throw my kindle against the wall. In my humble opinion, unless you're writing something the length of War and Peace, you can put it all in one book. I hate cliff-hangers. Ms Carver had plenty of action, suspense and sizzle. The book, what there was of it, is well written. The characters are fantastic. Light My Fire is book 1 of the Big City Heat Series and does end in a cliff-hanger. Very disappointing.
Surprisingly this book wasn't too bad. It kept me interested because the female was a firefighter and that was something i've never read much of before. However, this book does deal a lot with domestic violence so if you're not comfortable with it, please refrain. It was hard for me to get through the toughest bits as well. This book was also not perfect because I felt like Misha Carver really squeezed in the romance in the last few pages which was unnecessary and felt rushed. Would a battered woman still coping with her bruises and mental damage from her ex fall in love so quickly with the boy next door?
I really enjoyed the start of this new series from Misha Carver. It doesn't hurt that Chance is a hot fireman. Alexandria is one strong heroine and when Chance gets the Fire Chief position that she was counting on, sparks fly. What is going to happen? Will Alex and Chance be able to work together or will they crash and burn? I recommend this fast read to anyone who enjoys a firefighter read. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Loved it! I enjoyed the history and challenging relationship between Alex and Chance. I think this is a great series for this year.
“Just in case you bring him back here later.” “There won’t be any of that tonight,” I said. “He’s a gentleman.” “All men are animals,” she laughed as she walked over to my closet
Alex & Chance star crossed lovers or something else? Alex's marriage was a disappointment, which slowly ends with abuse. In steps a man from her past. Part one sets up the scene.

A story that touches on hard topics but gives hope. A woman firefighter is in trouble at home with a husband that is a raging alchohlic and a daughter that is awesome deaf and as strong willed as her mother. Read what happens when a line is crossed and a stand is made.
I liked the book in some ways but can't say I loved it. Had a real problem with her being more interested in Chance than her daughter. Really bothered me. Debating if I will read the others in the series

This book was very heartbreaking to read. Everything Alex was having to deal with at home, and now the fire station also. Chance seems like a decent guy. I can't wait to read more of these books.
