With the sudden disappearance of Iannis, the Chief Mage, Solantha has erupted into pandemonium. Citizens are rioting in the streets, the Mages Guild is on a misguided warpath, and shifters and humans are fleeing the city in droves. Ridden with guilt, Sunaya defies the Mages Guild and goes off in search of Iannis, trekking into dangerous, uncivilized territory to try and make things right. But Sunaya's relationship with Iannis isn't the only thing at stake -- if she doesn't find him soon, the Resistance might just succeed in plunging the Northia Federation into a devastating and bloody civil war.

Hunted by Magic (The Baine Chronicles #3) by Jasmine Walt continues with more adventure and suspense. In this one, the rebels have kidnapped mages and the Chef Mage is missing. Our gal, weak from almost dying, is not allowed to go with the rescue party but that doesn't stop her. Another fast, fun adventure story that keeps going and keeps the action going!

The third book in the series Sunaya ‘Naya’ Baine (24), a shifter-mage hybrid; a black panther and a licensed Enforcer, has to find the mission the Chief Mage, Iannis ar’Sannin, who wasn’t just the ruler of Solantha – he governed the entire state of Canalo and was one of the most powerful mages in the Federation of Northia. His disappearance is putting Solantha in chaos and giving the Resistance a chance to gain new recruits. Overall, Iannis is too little in these books. Same with book one and two. I need more of him. Also it bothers me that Iannis was so easily overpowered that he got bewitched by a shaman..... I do understand that he was hurt at the time, but it kinda ruins the illusion of the all powerful Chief Mage. I need Iannis to be the most powerful. I'm shallow like that. No one can be stronger than him, including Sunaya. God I'm a horrible female. That said, I like that Sunaya wasn't so annoying here. She's grown a bit more, which she seems to be doing in each book, even if it's very little.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (New Adult) Urban Fantasy (M/F)
Series: - Series, Book Three.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Iannis ar’Sannin.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Yes.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Unsure.
Will I read this again in the future? - No.
Rating - 3 (weak) stars.

Star rating: 4.5 stars

After the chief mage Iannis, goes missing while on his way to the capital for a convention Sunaya Baine decides it's up to her to find him before all is lost in the city of Solantha. With her best friend Annia and her fellow shifter Fenris in tow, Sunaya will pull out every trick she has just to find Iannis before its too late.

So far this has to be my favorite novel in this series to date. The action swept me up like a tsunami from the beginning and didn't spit me out until the very last chapter. Secrets were spilled about mysterious characters and the relationship between Iannis and Sunaya was finally acknowledged and set to simmering. My only reason behind not giving this novel 5 stars was that the story line still lacks a certain something that other series' have in spades. I look forward to picking up the next book in this series very soon.

Needs Some Fine Tuning

You can't have a book's conflict unfold based on logical fallacies. It simply doesn't work and has the effect of leaving the reader unsatisfied. In this case, the whole premise of this novel exists, because the protagonist simply kept forgetting to tell her love interest important news. Keep in mind that she is an enforcer, which is essentially a detective/cop. I don't know a single cop that could forget something so important. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Having loved the first two books in the series, it's frustrating to see people rating the book poorly before it even comes out. If they posted them with an ARC review, then I'd get it. But since they didn't, these puzzling premature ratings make a person wonder if people are just targeting certain books just to mess with the rating. I've seen this is the past, and it drives me crazy. Just plain weird...

Can't wait to read "Hunted by Magic" when it's released!!

If you're looking for something to read, while waiting for the next book in another series, give Baine a try. The previous book gave us a better look at the shifter community; this time, we learn more about the mage community during a hybrid rescue quest and underhanded dealings at the mage convocation.

The world building and and character development make some incremental steps forward, but this isn't the same caliber of writing that readers enjoy in the blockbuster series mentioned in the promo descriptions. Keep in mind, though, that big name authors benefit from guidance by top-notch editors and revise their narratives extensively as part of a time-consuming publication process. With high quality editing, the Baine series could be really outstanding.

I'm a high-volume reader who loves getting new releases months apart. What's the e-equivalent of a page turner? A screen flicker? I'm already looking forward to the next release.

This book was supplied to me by Jasmine Walt and Rebecca Hamilton in exchange for s fair and honest review .
What a great continuation of this series of stories . In itself a completed story it very cleverly finishes as a cliff hanger come lead into the next book.
It's exciting, entertaining (with some great one liners ) and has a really good underlying sexual tension running between the two main characters. With very down to earth writing the book doesn't have any "flim-flam" to detract from the story. I was really impressed with this third book and the quality of the story line.

3.5 stars really - despite the truly annoying heroine, and against my better judgement - I did enjoy the first three books in the series. I had the audio version of these books and I would like to give credit to the female narrator, who managed to incorporate at least half a dozen different - generally peculiar, but somehow appropriate - accents (several of them male) into her reading, with great consistency!

Good storyline, but books are short

Really holds your interest, but each book is way too short. Three books together would make this much more worthwhile. No get me wrong what is there is very good

What to write…what to write! Well, first off a big thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I am happy to conclude that it was an exceptionally enjoyable read, and if you’re considering this book/the series then you should definitely give it a go! If you’ve read the Kate Daniels series, the Mercy Thompson series etc. and the like, and enjoyed them, then this is probably something for you. Of course they are still different and this series has created its own world and style! Anyway, back to reviewing the book. I received this book just yesterday (the 1st of May) and I’ve already finished reading it today. Like always, the world building is phenomenal, and everything really comes alive with the depth of the descriptions. There are no words wasted, and you’re given just the right amount of information to make it interesting and just the right amount of blanks to make it both frustrating, but also intriguing. In this third instalment of The Baine Chronicles, Sunaya wakes up to the chaos of Chief Mage, Iannis’ disappearance. Knowing what she does, and ridden with guilt, she decides to defy the Mages Guild and their misguided decisions and disloyal actions. With the help of her friends, she goes off in search of Iannis, only to discover much more sinister plans that are brewing behind the veils of the civilised and structured façade of Mage Society. There are several things that I would really love to share (like quotes and in depth descriptions of my reactions and thoughts to some of the scenes) but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone of you who’re going to give this one a go. Though, I will reveal this much…Fenris is cute when he’s flustered. Sunaya and Annia = evil combination (in the best way of course!). Iannis is reaaally yummy (as if you didn’t already know that)…. If someone was spying on me through the camera lens on my tablet (which, of course, is a real problem today, unfortunately), they would probably find me grinning stupidly/wearing a smug little smile… and the time of secrets and the time of revelations are nigh!!!! Oh, and also that I kinda hate the author right now…not in a bad way, though I’m not sure you can hate someone in a good way? Anyway, finishing the book had me near tears, because I need to wait for the next instalment, and I. Do. Not. Want. To. I want the next book soon…preferably now. As in, THIS INSTANT!. But of course I don’t really hate the author…I’m just showing my appreciation for her work! So go on! Give the book a go and share your thoughts…I really want to know what other people think of the scenes that I really want to share but won’t because I’ll probably reveal more than is wise…!

Sunaya wants to go after the Iannis Chief Mage and rescue him after his dirigible has crashed, but the Mage Guild will no longer tolerate her presence without Iannis to back her up. Determined to rescue him by herself without their help, and to get to him first, she enlists the help of her friends. With the disappearance of the Chief Mage, the city has descended in chaos with the mages rounding up the shifters, and the shifters fleeing in terror, and Sunaya can't stand to see her city in such chaos and knows the only one who can help her city is Iannis. But where he crashed is dangerous territory, and she must be prepared. Will she find him in time? Or will this be the end for them all?

I have to say upfront that this series keeps going strong! From the beginning of this book to the end, it was a great roller coaster ride of fun, action, and intensity. I love the characters, the plot is always fast-paced, and the writing is superb. I have said before, and I will say it again, I think the author is going places. I must mention two things that were a little off-putting. First, when they were on their adventure to find Iannis, the solution came to them very fast after a long search (I don't want to say too much and spoil it). It was just a little too abrupt. Second, I am getting really tired of Iannis' stubbornness about his feelings for Sunaya! However, neither of those things detracts from the greatness of this book. I believe everyone should try this series who likes this genre. They really, really are worth your time and money! Highly recommend!

Thanks to the author for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review. This exact review will be posted on both Amazon and Goodreads.

As a fangirl, I'd say this is a 5 stars for me, but as a review, I'd say a few things lagged for me personally because I'm a hardcore romantic and the thought of reading a book WITHOUT Iannis in the first half drove my insane. I skimmed (I read it all again when I was done) through pretty details and pleasantries to get to the juicy bits, like if Iannis was dead, missing on purpose, perhaps abandoning his post??? Just kidding.

This was an intense read, and again, it was a change of scene in at least three parts of the book, changes that I absolutely adored. I just love when there's an adventure to be had. I was worried this book would be only about her finding him, but I was able to breathe a sigh of relief. The story continued after the rescue mission, and a good deal of things happened afterwards as well. I'm really happy about that because when the first half of the book was her journeying to GET to the real journey- that's where I started skimming lol. I'm just an impatient person, I'm sorry.

It doesn't discount what amazing things this book has! It was entertaining whether my impatience occurred or not. I liked the different roles Naya had to play with her friends, and the background intensity could be felt the entire time. Would things change when she got back home? Would they be able to get their lives back after what happened? What a race! And the ending was yet again another antagonizing tease, and I wish it was the ending of July already so I could read it. I need it!

I received this book as an arc in exchange for an honest opinion. The first two books in the series were fantastic. The third book did not disappoint! The only thing keeping it from being a 5 star for me is the fact the romance has passed the slow burn point. In book three Sunaya and her mage start moving in the right direction but still are dancing around each other. We also seem to not be any closer to discovering who the villain is but the plot does thicken as we realize the benefactor has more influence than previous thought. Overall loved it and can't wait for the next book!

Nice continuation of the Baine Chronicles, picks up exactly where Bound by Magic takes off.
Not as predictable as one might think, Ms. Walt throws a few very nice curves at us and takes us on some very unexpected paths. It will be very interesting to see where this series goes, and I don't see it ending too soon. It's refreshing to see the same main story lines, shapeshifters, mages, humans and create a different path for the series, i.e. it's not the same old story with new characters. . .
very enjoyable book looking forward to the next few.

In the third book in the series, Sunaya must get the Chief Mage back. He's missing, and she's unsure if he's dead or what actually happened to him. Now, she will do everything she can to get him back and order restored to her city.

This book was really good. It had Sunaya admitting her feelings in some ways, and had her really trying to figure out what her next move would be. This one sort of ends on a cliffhanger kind of it. It makes you unsure what Sunaya will do next, and curious as what choices she will make. I do look forward to more now.

I was given an ARC of this book for my honest review. This book definitely got better as i read it. The author did a mich better job storywise on this book than the previous one. I still think the first book was best. I also find myself disliking some of the characters more and more as time goes on. I think the main character needs to mature a bit and the side characters need some development.

“Let’s just focus on getting him out of there. The sooner we can get him away from that woman, the sooner we can beat some sense back into him.”
“That’s the spirit.”

Quite the opposite of the last book, this is probably closer to two stars than three because I seriously struggled with the first half of the book. Then I felt hypocritical. I practically begged for Sunaya to not get saved yet again by Iannis and this time she’s saving him (albeit in not as bad ass way as I would have liked).

My problem was with the, in my eyes, quite negative view of the ‘tribes’ they come across on the journey to save the chief as ‘savages’. Considering Walt portrays our main characters as liberal viewed activists fighting against the masses who let fear and misinformation fuel them- this feels like a turn around. The dystopian earth setting that comes across strongest in ‘Hunted by Magic’ feels weak with just slight changes of state/country names and odd mentions of how the mages rose up and such. I enjoy Walt’s political take on her societies with interesting parallels to how humans have acted historically but I can’t help but think that this might come across stronger in a purely fantasy/made up world. Suddenly when it becomes dystopian you start to question potential realism.

I did enjoy the surprises from the characters and how Sunaya teamed up into kick ass female duo with Annia. To be honest, the whole last 40% was pretty good, with a bit more action and a few more twists.

"Hunted By Magic" begins with a jolt and doesn't stop until the very last page. This time, Sunaya has received news that Iannis, the Chief Mage and her romantic desire is missing. He and his fellow mages were on their way to the convention when their dirigible went down. Now, the Mages Guild has forbidden her to look for him and they are in total pandemonium as they fight amongst themselves for power.

Of course, Sunaya is not about to let those pesky Mages get in her way and she manages to find a dirigible to cart Fenris, Annia and herself off in search for Iannis. Along the way they encounter a storm that forces their balloon down and now they stumble upon the indigenous people of the area who they will have to rely on for assistance and guidance.

As they manuever through shark infested waters, they stumble upon the Resistance movement as well as those who were responsible for bringing down the Chief Mage's dirigible. They also locate the other mages being held hostage. When they finally locate Iannis, they are in a rush to make it to the conention before any votes are cast. Once there, they discover a whole different level of corruption and subterfuge. It seems the Resistance has a plan in place and it is up to Sunaya to stop it.

On a more romantic note, Sunaya is two weeks away from going in heat and she makes sure that Iannis is aware of that fact. It is time for him to make a decision of possible lose her for good, I was happy with the way she stood up for herself. As I stated in the beginning, this book was chocked full of unexpected surprises including one about Fenris. Additionally the ending promises more mystery and intrigue in store in the upcoming books. If you have not discovered this series, what are you waiting for? Get on board for a thrilling ride!

Issues

The first book was great, the last one was bad and this one barely a step up from that. I had some issues, but the end was just crazy. We have a power hungry council that has started a war and they pretty much just get a slap on the wrist. So not even that actually. They should have all been fired for treason. Then our girl who is supposed to be on a task force to take down the resistance gets a note with dire threats against her with a bloody knife through it and she just tears it up and throws it in the air. No sense in actually taking it as possible evidence or clues to the resistance, or to let the Mage know she is in danger. Nope, just a not very important thing for her to not care about. Just one more example of her pig headedness. Like when she refused to put the balloon down so she can get an extra hour travel time and instead runs into the storm they clearly saw and it costs them several days delay for her guy to be laid up with another woman and to almost miss the conference. Her stupid stubbornness is her own worst enemy. This character started out a tough chick with spunk who has now become a stubborn hard headed spoiled brat who is arrogant and bossy. Not attractive at all.

I'm in love with the series again. Let's just say that this book has found it's way back and is running with the story again as the first book did.

I think that Naya has started to grow and mature in this book, I have to admit that I was starting to get a bit irritated with her in Bound by Magic, she was running off on her own, not really working as a team and forgetting some pretty important things. She has redeemed herself in my eyes though & I'm loving her again just as I did in the first book. I also loved that Fenris had a bigger role to play in this book and that learnt his secret, or at least one of them as I think he may have a few more in the Dark cupboard.

Annia also had a much bigger role in this book and I do like her, but my only criticism would be that I'm not loving her yet as I feel that I'm not connecting with her completely. I am hoping though that she still has a big part to play in the next book, and hopefully some of that will be kicking her sisters butt as that really needs to be done.

We're also starting to get somewhere with the feelings between Naya and Iannis, although not completely there yet. There was one very hot scene in this book, which I'm hoping we may see more of in future books. They language also got more colourful in this book, but that doesn't bother me at all, I don't really have the sweetest of tongues myself.

I'm so glad that this series has got its pizzazz back, and will just take the second book as hopefully a very small blip in what is looking to be a great series. I'm looking forward to the next book, I'm just hoping it comes soon, and hopefully it'll be a longer book too.

A. It ponderous to get through, but important

For some reason, this novel didn’t grip me as hard as the previous ones and I feel like I may be burning out, which is sad because a lot happens here. I’m still not sure how I feel about Innis and Sunaya getting together and I’m a bit over the constant ineptitude of the mage leadership (how have they not been overthrown before? Even the civil rights movement happened a hundred years after slavery ended!) so...maybe I’ll continue ?

This one was good although I still wasn't crazy about the ending. I wouldn't call it a cliff hanger, however. It was a peek at the next book but it wasn't an expected one. It was one of those books in which you could have ended it before the last chapter and still considered it an abrupt but solid ending. Instead it tried to lay bait for the next book by masking it as a "wrap" for this book.

I really don't like those kinds of games.

That said, the book was otherwise better than the ones before it. The MC isn't quite as insufferable as I originally found her, the slow-burn romance had some movement, several questions about recurring secondary characters got answered, and the long arc regarding the Resistance made good headway.

The copy editing was a bit lacking, but I've seen worse.

Perhaps the best of the series so far. I'm in for the next one but I'd like to see a tight ending instead of fish hooks that disrespect me as a reader. They've always seemed to say to me "the author doesn't have enough confidence that the story is good enough to bring me back so they have to fish hook me to return."

ARC review. I loved the first two books and this is no exception. The story advances with action and an expedition to save Lord Iannis. I love how the feelings between the two main characters are realized and shared. I so can't wait to see how Iannis deals with The next step in dynamics of their relationship. I can't wait for the next adventure to unfold! Jasmine Walt is an amazing writer. We get carried into the story with the ease of Jasmine's writing! staying awake past bedtime is a sure sign that this is a must read....Book 4....

Amazing! Way better than the first two! Sunaya teams up with Fenris and Annia to save the Iannis. Also, there is significant progress in Iannis and Sunaya's relationship. A lot happens when Sunaya goes to save him.

"How could I have forgotten your fiery spirit for even a moment?"
-Iannis

There is a lot of political strife going on in Iannis's absence too, and we can see that Iannis is working on making changes.

Summary:
Great romance
Kickass heroine
Discussion on equal rights for shifters/mages
