Le crime - histoire d'amour

Rate this book

Dark, tense, not least because the very first sentence tells you what is going to happen and you are waiting for it for the rest of the book. The action takes place in one day, the 18th birthday of the daughter of separated parents who have promised to explain to her why their happy family life fell apart so suddenly ten years before. It is all very bleak! but well written and well structured (I was reading it in French which is not my first language: it has also been translated from Icelandic into German and Danish). The one thing I found a bit confusing was attaching names to some of the characters, who seemed to be "he" and "she" most of the time. This story is memorable and disturbing.

Icelanding dark.. interesting way that the author develops the subject matter till he gradually reveals the very tough end (somewhat predictable). Strong emotions, very modern, but dark, oh so dark...

Fín bók, þó örlög sögupersónanna séu frekar ömurleg. Ég lagði hana varla frá mér.

I read this book in less than one day. Realized when I had finished about 1/4 that I had read it before.
I liked it that much I decided to read it again, was definently worth it. It is tempting to give it 4 stars, I would rate it 3,5 if possible.
It is somewhat different from other novels by Árni, have read most in his series on Einar the newspaper-man , they are fairly good in my mind.
