This is a beautiful book that helped take me to new depths of understanding about Jesus. There is a slightly odd chapter in the middle about John and Dante, which I didn’t feel added anything, but overall I felt the weight of John’s gospel because of Stephen Verney’s lovely writing. It is not a typical commentary, or exegesis of John, rather a personal journey through the Gospel with some profound insights and thoughts. I am glad I read it.

A refreshing commentary on John’s Gospel using the author’s experiences to help illustrate some of the ideas. He gives a good commentary on the Greek; ideal for those of us who can’t read NT Greek (yet). He ties the themes together well using the Wedding at Cana as the first sign which gives context to the other signs Jesus performed. He also discusses John Chapter 1 at the end of the book as a reflection based on John’s thoughts & experiences across a lifetime.
