Rhyme. Whitespace to focus on characters. Close up of faces to allow children to focus on expression. The there is a link to the senses in the book which can inspire children's writing. The dog is a recurring aspect of the story.

I was attracted by the spectacular front cover - the wet-look title is a fantastic idea. The front cover raised expectations, and the illustrations continued to be more great throughout. The only illustration that I thought could have been better was the farm boy illustration, which seemed a little staid.

The rhyme and rhythm of the text is well constructed. The story is a lovely one following the adventures of a young boy through to bed boy, bed boy dreaming of tomorrow's adventures.
