P. C. Kuttikrishnan, popularly known by his penname Uroob (Malayalam: ഉറൂബ്; 1915 – 1979) was a famous Malayalam writer from Kerala state, South India. He along with writers like Basheer, Thakazhi, Kesavadev, and Pottekkatt formed the progressive writers in Malayalam during the twentieth century. Uroob is a recipient of Kendra Sahithya Academy Award (Malayalam) for his novel Sundarikalum Sundaranmarum

Mindappennu by Uroob is a powerful and finely crafted short novel that leaves a lasting impact. Though brief in length, it carries deep emotional weight, making the reader feel it wasn’t enough — not for its lack, but for its richness. Uroob’s precise use of language ensures every word matters. The characters, especially Kunjikkelu Menon, Kamalam, and Chandran, undergo meaningful transformation, all catalyzed by the quiet strength of Kunji Lakshmi, the “Mindappennu.” Her silent presence gradually builds into a forceful voice that drives the heart of the story. A true classic, Mindappennu stands as one of the finest examples of the modern Malayalam short novel.

കേളുമേനോന്റെ തറവാട്ടിലാണ് താമസിക്കുന്നത്.വീടെന്ന നാലു ച്ചുവരുകൾക്കിടയിൽ അകപ്പെട്ടുപോയ, അടുക്കള ഭാരം വേറി ജീവിച്ചിരുന്ന അവൾക്ക് ഒന്നിനോടും ഒരഭിപ്രായവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. എന്നാൽ തനിക്ക് നേരിടേണ്ടിവന്ന ജീവിത സാഹചര്യങ്ങൾ മൂലം അവൾ പ്രതികരണശേഷിയുള്ളവളും ആർക്കും വിശ്വസിക്കാൻ കഴിയാത്ത വിധം മാറുന്നതും ഉറൂബ് വളരെ മനോഹരമായി ആവിഷ്ക്കരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
