This is Ashley Wheels first solo book, and what a book it is.

Pain is sweet but, very painful.

I devoured this book in one sitting. I loved that this book was so different from other MC books.

Ashley has definitely set the bar pretty high. I can't even imagine what she has next.

Abbey is one strong, sassy, and loving girl. She touched my heart with her sassiness right from the start. Everyone needs someone like her in their lives.

5 stars to this amazing book. I loved every moment.

This is not a romance novel and in my opinion it didn't have a happy ending. The hero Chalk's love interest wasn't in the main character. She was a minor character and their "romance" development between them was rushed and lackluster as were the sex scenes. The main h in this book was a girl named Abigail who the author kills off at the end of the book. So impressed with this author's debut book.

I recently read the F*ck Cancer anthology and there was a story contributed by Ashley which led me to Pain.

First, I scrolled through a few reviews out there and want to address one thing - you are given an insight to what is going to happen with Abigail at some point during the story, this should not be a surprise or a reason (IMO) for rating a book lower.

Now to the story. Chalk is a recently patched member of the Death Jokers MC. He's still finding his place in the club. When his club President takes on a "security" job without voting on it he draws the short straw and Abigail, a frail and sassy six year old sweetheart. Thus begins the maturity of our man Chalk. Chalk has never been around kids and has no idea what to do with one, but he learns as Abigail gets to him from the moment he meets her. During his care for Abigail, Chalk meets Fianna and he recognizes right away that she's different than his usual one and done. This is the love story part but honestly the relation Abigail has with the men is the real meat of the story. This is a MC, so there is some action and drama.... and now I know who Tank is.

I'm not going to lie...Ashley brought tears to my eyes around the 74% mark and just as they were drying up she puts in the letter! I know she's concentrating on being a PA for her brother, but this woman needs to give us Tank's story!!!

I loved it!

There are many books I have read but only a few that will stay with me long after I have finished them, Pain is one such book!
Chalk Madison is the newest and youngest patched member of the outlaw club Death Jokers MC. When a previous client of the club asks for protection for his sick child with a huge amount of money added to the deal Vince the Prez of the MC accepts the offer!! With the child under the protection of the MC it falls to Chalk to be her main carer. Not having a clue how to deal with a six year old sick child Chalk has his work set out looking after Abigail. She is bright and causes him trouble with one main instance between them being hilarious it had me crying with laughter...I'm not giving anymore away you will have to read the book to find out the part.
If you are reading this review and contemplating buying this book all I can say is go for it, this book will touch you deeply throughout especially in the last few chapters, I could hardly breathe because of the amount of emotion I was feeling. Chalk and Abigail's relationship is special they met each other at a time when she needed him but she was the one to change him the most!!
A beautiful, heart breaking story, as I said above, one that will stay with me for a long time.
Thank you so much Ashley for sharing your debut novel with the reading world, you have truly touched and moved me with this amazing story!!

So i finished this book 2 days ago and yes should have posted my review before now. But I am honestly sitting here replaying the book in my head and trying to come up with the best words to give this review the outstanding praise that is needed!!! Its heartbreaking, emotional, fantastic, and I cannot get enough. I was in tears at the end of this book and not just small tears nooo nooo nooo i was a sobbing mess. THERE IS A HEA <- Just FYI.

This is Ashley's debut Solo novel and I see many great things in the future for her as an author. She packs a punch and delivers a flawless read that will have you all swooning over Chalk, awwing for Abigail, falling in love with them both as well as wanting to hold Abigail close as if she were your child and you are trying to protect her.

I loved how it was told from multiple POV but also how we got it from Abigails POV as well. The characters are all outlaw bikers and rough around the edges but bring in a child (Abigail) and who wouldn't turn to mush as she wraps these big, bad, tough bikers around her finger.

I feel like I'm rambling now but this book is seriously on my top 5 FAV reads for 2016 and I dont think it will get dropped off anytime soon if at all.

Cannot wait to see what else Ashley brings to the table and hope some of the other MC members get a story as well.

Not your typical MC romance. Ashley Wheels took on a roller coaster, all of the emotions she put into this book. I personally felt the full gamut of emotions: sorrow, angry, hurt... The goes on.
I can't believe how likable little Abigail is, I fell in love with her. A sassy 6-year old when her father turned her over to an outlaw MC group. The men of the MC weren't ready for the impact little Abigail had on all of their lives. She had the biggest impact on Chalk's life, who was her legal guardian at the MC clubhouse.
I highly recommend this book!!!!

Ashley did amazing with this book and I was honored to read it.

Chalk was in charge of caring for Abby, they know her body will give out on her one day but Chalk is determined to let her live a good life, his president of his mc hurts her and makes Chalk realize she is his world. When people from the past presidents life take her and threatened Chalk she goes through hell to protect the man she loves as a father, knowing he has her friend and nurse to help him through the pain of losing her she is ok with what will happen and the love he has shown her

This is Ashley's first book she has written by herself and she totally floored me with it. The emotion she brought out of me with her words just can not even cover this book. Saying I loved it just does not seem enough

Worth the Read

This book was more than the 5 rating. It was definitely a different type of MC book. It was a great read, didn't want it to end, It made me laugh, get angry, cry. I found myself anxious to know what was next, I fell in love with the MC. Great read for anyone who love the MC books or for first time MC readers.

I just couldn't get into this book. I did not finish it. Right from the start it was just off. Who drops their 5 year old off at a motorcycle club full of men? And the club leader was just confusing. Maybe if I finished reading the book I would have found out the answers, but after the first few chapters I just had to stop.

Heart snattering

This book had me laughing at the beginning and wanting to do bodily harm to some.
At the end, I had to go find some tissues.
This book show that everyone has the ability to love somebody. It just takes some time with some people.
Patience is something everyone has to learn.

Very good book

Even though I knew that Abigail wouldn't have a long life, I still cried so hard that I needed tissues. Chalk was a mean and rough man that gave his whole heart to little girl and her nurse. I didn't see the ending happen the way it did though.

Heart touching

This was a different kind of biker story. It focused more on the story of a young girl being guarded by bikers. It was funny, touching and a good read. I laughed, cried and enjoyed the story.

Pain by Ashley Wheels

Designation: Standalone, debut novel

Ashley Wheels is a new author for me and this is her first solo novel. It was an MC book with a sweet innocent twist in the form of Abigail Rochester, a six year old girl. So you are thinking, how can you write a steamy romance novel of motorcycle outlaws and include a six year old girl, right? It’s ok, I asked myself the same thing. I’ve only read one other book where there was a kid involved….you’re right, it isn’t normal, but OMG, Ashely really makes it work!

So the Death Jokers MC is being paid by Abigail’s father to take care of her while his life is in danger. He has set up a hidden account which is only accessible with her finger prints. To keep her safe they pick one member of the club to be her primary guardian and that happens to be Chalk who is only 23 and newly patched in the club. Obviously, taking care of a kid is not high on his list of things to do, but once he meets Abigail, he quickly is taken in with her spunk and strength. She is very intelligent and understands more than she should at her age and she is very observant of those around her.

Poor Abigail has serious health problems and ends up in the hospital. While there she meets a very sweet nurse, Fianna, who not only helps Abigail, but is able to connect with Chalk too. Chalk finally finds a woman he wants to be with more than once in Fianna.

There was a bit of everything in this story, drama, laughter, anger, sadness and love. Get ready for the ugly cry….seriously this one will tear you apart. I don’t want to spoil it, so I can’t tell you how perfect this story was. There were moments that I was actually yelling at my kindle as if that would have changed anything, but hey my hubby yells at the TV during football, so I had to try! I really loved the ending, there was a perfect epilogue that cleans up all those loose ends and it was so moving! I am amazed that a new author could write so fabulously on their debut book! I can’t wait to see what she does next.

We were given the opportunity to read and review Pain. Our thoughts....

Amazing.
Brilliant.
Sinfully delicious.
Heart-breaking.
Dark.
Confronting.
Raw.
Beautifully breathtaking.

Every emotion you can think of this novel had it.
Finishing it in the early hours of the morning, we were left speechless. We didn't want it to end. We just wanted more and more. But just so you all know there is a HEA!

Meet Chalk.
He's a part of The Death Jokers MC.
He's dark and dangerous.
He's a killer.
He lives and breathes the club.
He will do anything for his brothers.

The club are asked to do a job. They need to protect a girl. She isn't safe. Monsters want to hurt her, see her death, it's worth a lot to them.
But it's the job The Death Jokers MC to protect her and make sure she is safe at all costs.
Chalk is given the head role as her protector.
He doesn't want it.
This isn't something the club normally do.
But he has no other choice.
He either protects her, or he will pay the consequences.

But the shocker for Chalk....he has to look after and protect a beautiful six year old girl,
Her name.
Abigail.

Abigail is bought to the club. She knows why. The bad people took her daddy and now they want her. She knows that going to this club is for her protection. But she is afraid. She doesn't know these men......She doesn't know Chalk.

But when Chalk and Abigail meet it's instant.
Chalk is instantly drawn to protect this beautiful little girl.
Abigail only trusts Chalk.

But what affect will this have on the club?
What affect will Abigail have on Chalk and his brothers?
How will these men take care of her?
Are they up for the job?
Will they keep her safe from the dangers that are lurking?
And what will ultimately bring every single member of the club to their knees?

Guys you just have to read Pain to find out.

This is a début novel for author Ashley Wheels and we must say it's absolute sheer brilliance. We were captivated, held hostage from beginning to end. To be honest we were grabbed by the dedication, it just completely moved us emotionally. We laughed (and we mean laughed until we couldn't get breath), we cried (and we mean ugly cried, snotty nose, sobbing cry), we held our breath. We were overall overwhelmed. We loved, loved, loved it.

This book guys.......A MUST READ DO NOT MISS THIS.

A huge 5 star read

This is not a love story. This book is about pain. And most importantly beauty. Of a beautiful soul that we’ve met along the way, that touched our lives, that changed us in a way we never expected, that brought bliss and peace and the cause of the most painful thing we ever felt, ever.

This is a story different from everything I’ve read, something new, and something refreshing. I’m saying this because it was such a different take on a MC as well as the perspective of looking at life differently.

Abigail was a little girl who was dealt harshly with life. And she had to depend on people she didn’t know for her survival. This was her story. Of how she made a difference to a bunch of hard asses.

I guess, no matter how beautiful this story is, there are some that I need to point out that left me with not giving the one star to make it a five-star read.

It’s actually a pet peeve of mine when characters do something so brave and so stupid at the same time. I know it’s supposed to be a turn point that makes you want to admire them but it’s just makes me irrationally angry.

The other one was that I wanted more of Chalk’s background and past. It was hard for me to connect with him and understand his quirks. Although I may have an inkling of what it is considering it was stated, I still felt it necessary there should be some firsthand experience to know the gravity of it and to not just mark his responses as overreaction.

After the in-depth know how with Abigail, and the lives of the MC, the transition was too fast for my liking and I felt that I was rushed. Like things are being fast forwarded to reach the end although I may be over exaggerating, but its how I feel.

But no matter, other than that, this book with its characters and their flaws, and their separate lives touched me and connected with me. I felt, I hurt, I was amused, and most of all, this book has touched me.

The story centers around Chalk, the newest patched member of the Death Jokers MC. The club has been hired to protect 6 year old Abby, as her father made the wrong enemies but did leave behind a large amount of money for her care. Since Abby herself is needed to access the accounts, she's a target for people who want to steal her money, while Chalk ends up being chosen as Abby's guardian.

This is the first solo book by this author and I liked the set-up because protectiveness is one of the things I love in alpha male characters. I found the idea of an MC taking on the protection of a young girl, and one biker in particular becoming her guardian, amusing, and the story did provide some lol moments. While technically the writing was fine, without grammar errors and flowing fairly smoothly, there were several time jumps and it felt like things were missing. The story wasn't that long and would have benefited from more character development as I was left with a lot of questions, for example, why did Chalk have panic attacks? We're told he's done bad things, but don't see them. We don't really get to see his relationship develop with Abby, we're just told that he's become very protective.

There are hints that Chalk's love interest, Fianna, had something in her past that troubled her but we never find out what, and we don't see Chalk's relationship with her develop, either. In fact, we really don't get to know Fianna at all. We do see some insta-lust, but as a nurse, I'd expected her to be somewhat conflicted about getting involved with an MC member, but we don't get to see if she struggles with that decision or not. In addition, I felt there were a few plot holes, both in the main set-up and the ongoing action which I can't talk about without spoilers.

So while I'll continue to watch this author, this book ended up being a 3 to 3.5 star read for me when it had the potential to be a whole lot more.

I have to say that Pain is a great solo debut for Ashley Wheels! This was a very touching story about what it means to love another person.

Chalk is the newest member of a motorcycle club and when the club takes on a new job, Chalk is the one is gets the assignment. But, this isn’t any job, it’s taking care of a little girl! She needs to be protected and her father has given them the job. This isn’t the job he wants, he knows nothing about kids, he’s not exactly a nice guy and again, knows nothing about kids.

But little Abigail changes everything, and everyone. She is not your typical kid though, she’s smart, sassy and sick. Despite her illness, she’s an amazing little girl and quickly wins Chalk’s heart.

Pain isn’t your typical romance, love-story, for me it was more about learning to love and the power of love. Theirs isn’t an easy story either, along with dealing with illness, there are threats to Abigail. She is worth a lot of money and there are people out there who will stop at nothing to get it.

This really is a touching read, Ashley does a wonderful job of creating these characters and creating a family out of this group, albeit a non-traditional one. This book is a great combination of laughable moments and heart-felt touching moments. On the surface Chalk doesn’t seem like the kind of guy you fall for, but he really captured my heart! Seeing him grow as a person, care for Abigail and even fall in love – oh the unexpected feels for this man!

Pain is a book I would definitely recommend to readers. These characters really did capture my heart, their story entertaining and definitely bad-ass at times. You will need tissues, but it’s totally worth it! Again, great solo debut from Ashley Wheels and I’m looking forward to whatever she writes next!

I was expecting a great read from Ashley's debut book but I never expected to be quiet so blown away!!! Ashley has written a fantastic, heartbreaking, emotional story which will stay with me for a long time. Yes, you will cry at this story, but it is one that you must read!!!

This is not your ususal MC romance, this is much deeper and so much more emotional. Chalk is a member of the outlaw club Death Jokers MC, he is the newest member and usually gets the rough end when dealing with jobs. He is a little outspoken and that gets him into trouble at times.

Vince, the prez, has taken on a new job without sticking to the normal rules. He takes on a job for a previous client, which involves a lot of money. Straws are drawn fr who will take lead on the job as it isn't the normal. Chalk draws the short straw and is left to look after a 6 year old girl with health issues, that will shorten her life expectancy.

Abigail, is a sweet 6 year old, who is curious and who has a lot of sass. She has been through so much in her short life but she has a big heart and is strong. You love Abigail, right from the start, she is such a sweet character.

Fianna, is the love element, that makes Chalk question some of his lifestyle choices. Together, they all make each other happy and deal with so much. Be prepeared for emotion and a lot of tears but you have to add this book to your TBR. I highly recommend this read!!! Well, done Ashley <3

Loved this book. Ashley brought so much to this book and I loved not only 2 POV’s but multiple ones. Oh and Chalk is one hot and sexy biker.

Chalk is the newest member of the Death Jokers and when his president Vince called church he had a new assignment for the club. Take care of a little girl who has a lot of health conditions her father turned on the mob and he leaves his daughter with the club so she is protected and after she passes there’s a huge pay day for them. When Chalk draws the short straw he is the one in charge of the girl. When he met Abigail he knew something just clicked inside him.

Abigail was a smart and insightful little girl. She had only a few loves in the world one being Hello Kitty. When she came to live with the guys she softened all those guys up but one. Then the Prez puts her in harm’s way they almost loose her.

While stuck in the hospital Chalk meets the woman that he breaks all rules for. Fianna is Abby’s nurse. She changes and helps Chalk so much.

This book was amazing. It makes you laugh, its hot and sexy, you will cry there’s just so many emotions you will feel while reading it. I am so glad I got to read this book.

This was an outstanding first novel by a young and talented new author Ashley Wheels. This book had everything I love in a great book including suspense, love, grief and belonging and fear thrown in for good measure. The characters especially chalk and the rest of the motorcycle club were very rough around the edges but most had a heart of gold. Chalk draws the short straw and ends up being a guardian for a young girl with MS when her father fears for her safety. When Abigail is injured and ends up in the hospital, Chalk meets nurse Fianna and his world is turned upside down.

"She's cute alright. Like a f---ing landmine waiting to be stepped on so it can blow your a-- the f--- up." Vince's sarcasm ruins the peaceful mood in the car.

If you are not a fan of filthy language and MC novels, you may be offended by some of the language included in this story.

"Abigail was able to teach him love comes in all forms."

You will love little Abigail as she pinkie swears Chalk and how she worms her way into every tough guys heart, in this at times, heart wrenching story.

Excellent writing, I can not say enough about how this story touched me as a reader.

Pain is the first book I have read by Ashley Wheels. She captured so much in her story that I felt every emotion I think she intended her reader to feel. I laughed, I cried, and I got so angry a few times.
Chalk is a member of an MC. He's tasked with looking after a little girl, Abigail since he's the newest patch member of the club. He doesn't want the job, but there's no way he can get out of it.
Abigail is a little girl the club takes on to protect since her dad got himself into trouble. She's sick and full of sass and spirit. One minute around her and your walls can't help but start to crumble.
What happens when someone becomes your whole world and starts to change the way you view life? Can Abigail break down Chalk's walls and open him up to love? Can Chalk handle raising a little girl, one that's sick at that?

I can't recommend this book enough. If I could rate this book higher than five stars, I wouldn't hesitate to do so. Please, don't pass up the chance to read this amazing story that will open you up to feel things you don't get to feel from a lot of stories.

I loved this book. No, it's not your typical MC book however, it is an MC book with heart. Not every book you read will have the ending that you as the reader will want or expect. This book is no exception. It is a wonderful story about Chalk, a member of the Hell Raider's MC and his new charge, 6 year old Abigail. She's a feisty little thing with a smart mouth, who will just capture you, just as she does the members of the MC. It's her making a change in Chalk , as well as most of the members of the club, that will have you saying aaaawwwww. Is there a love interest for Chalk...besides Abigail...yes there is and it can be as hot as most, however it's the love story between Chalk and this cute little girl that will touch your heart. How does one little bitty snip of a girl latch herself into the heart of a big bad biker? But without him even realizing it, she does. She gives all of the members, except one, the chance to open their hearts to someone else and she just skips right in. No, this is not your typical MC book, but it is a wonderful story of love, true and pure love; just not the kind you would expect to find in a MC story.

I did receive PAIN as an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I just loved this book!! Ashley Wheels did a fantastic job for her first novel.

A biker club gets tasked with watching over a little 6 year old girl, Abby or Abigail. Why would a biker club get a 6 yr old girl? The father thought they could protect her from people that were trying to harm him for his money. Which was now actual her money.

One of the guys of the club, Chalk gets tasked with having to watch Abby when she arrives. Although none of the club members know anything about being around a little girl let alone watching a little girl. Abby is sick, she needs medicine and doctor appointments to help her.

Some of the club members take her on a job although it was just supposed to be going out to get some cake and ice cream. Abby gets shot! They take her to a hospital where Chalk meets Fianna, who is the nurse on duty taking care of Abby.

Through the years little Abby grows up and is now a teenager, and has these big bad biker guys tied around her little finger.

Pain is the debut book by Ashley Wheels, she has Co written before but this is her first solo book.
It brings out all the emotions i love in a book, funny, sad, heartwarming etc it is very emotional from start to finish.
It is a story about a poorly, fiesty 6 year old girl who, because of her father's dealings, needs protection, Death Joker's MC club are paid to keep her safe, Chalk is put in charge of her care, he is not used to dealing with children and really hasn't the first idea how to look after her, Abigail soon has him wrapped around her little finger, as well as some of the other bad ass bikers in the club.
What Abigail and Chalk don't realise is that they both need each other, Abigail needs to feel safe and secure and to be able to trust someone, She teaches Chalk what real family love feels like although it takes him a long time to realise this, but he feels so much love for her, that when she is in pain he feels it to, loved this book can't wait to see what Ashley writes next, well done Ashley <3

What an emotional rollercoaster ride. I think this is the first book that truly made me ugly cry and sob with tears streaming down my face. Ashley is a truly talented author. I could feel all of the struggles present in this book that truly conveyed the depth of emotions that she has faced in her lifetime. I am truly proud of you Ashley and I can't wait to see what else you will deliver us in the future. You are a warrior girl!

When a little girl is entrusted to Chalk, the big bad biker, his world will forever change. How can one little girl come into the life of a cold hard criminal and make him learn how to love? When you truly find those that belong in your life, you learn so many things you wouldn't otherwise find important. You find your true self.

I know this review is different from my usual but this book is unique and I feel.you truly need to read this without knowing all the twists and turns that are ahead. Yes it was emotional, and yes it will make you cry but it will also make you laugh your as* off at times. This is truly a beyond 5 star read.

As i refuse to ruin the story for anyone else, i'll do my best to just express what an fantastic story this is...
It begins 10 years previously with Chalk being a recently patched member of the Death Jokers MC and at 23, he has an attitude of all attitudes!!!
A 6 year old girl gets brought into the club for protection... And compleately changes the dynamic of the hard a** bikers!!!
With the perfect amount of twists and turns that will have you experiencing emotions that you didn't even realize were possible... Every single thing was spot on from the story and flow to the amazing characters!!! Yes... I may have lost a piece of my heart to Chalk forever too... But who wouldn't after reading this!!!
I sincerely can not wait to see what Ashley has planned for her next book, but whatever it is i can guarantee it's going to be mind blowing!!! I also know that after reading this book... I am going to be a devoted fan... Forever!!!

I ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY LOVED IT!
My only complaint is I wish it were longer. I wanted more. Abigail is a beautiful little sweetheart that steals everyone's hearts. Even a bunch of big bad bikers. She's a very sick little girl who's Dad got involved with some really bad guys and needs some old friends to protect and take care of her. Chalk just so happens to be the one chosen to be her guardian. Even though he would never say it, he falls instantly in love with her and has absolutely no idea how to take care of a little girl. But she has his number and doesn't hesitate to capture the hearts of all of the guys except for the President, Vince. She calls him Mr. Meany Pants. She's a sassy little spitfire who's smart and knows how to get what she wants. Lol. Chalk meets Fianna at the hospital taking care of Abby and it's love at first sight for them both by neither will admit it. I laughed so hard and I cried even harder. But this story captured my heart and never let go. I EXTREMELY recommend this book to everyone.
