Amy Tudor’s gorgeous new collection, Studies in Extinction, is—in fact—a sequence of eloquent studies in living. Elegantly and richly written, always historically and emotionally resonant, these poems ask us to look out into the natural world, then deeply into ourselves; and, Amy Tudor makes clear, we must consider also how we might begin to make sense of our observations. These immaculately written poems are psalms of hope, powerful talismans, and braided songs raised against every promise of our coming extinction.

Amy Tudor is one of the best poets out there. She is absolutely in my few top favorite poets. She writes poems that break me apart and leave me weak kneed--and that's the highest of compliments. I usually have to stop after one and think for a while before going to the next each affects me as deeply and powerfully. She writes beautifully of dark things, but there is so much light and beauty in the darkness it's astonishing. This is a lovely collection, and a must-read for all poetry lovers--or even people not sold on poetry, because Tudor's writing reaches everyone.
