Sometimes reality is better than the books.
I love it when an author lets us know she’s a reader. I know most authors are readers but it’s cool when an author shares her love of books through her characters. In Wallflowers we get to meet three romance readers…just like me. I had a permanent smile on my face as the three women talked about their favourite historical romances. I’ve had the same types of conversations, sometimes online and sometimes face to face. It doesn’t take long for like-minded readers to form bonds. How could you not like someone who has shed a tear over heartbreak or laughed themselves silly over the stumblings and bumblings of love? When you find those friends you want to keep them. They know and get you in a way non-readers don’t. Wallflowers made me feel at home. I recognised the characters. There were chats about books that were so familiar to the ones I’ve had previously. The one thing these ladies got that I’ve never had…to meet the modern day Devil, Duke of St Ives.
Calla Lily has been living a half-life for 21 years. She’s relatively happy with her job, enjoys spending her spare time reading and loves her two aunts who she lives with. The problem is that Cali is alone. She has shielded herself to keep away emotional attachments. Cali knows what it’s like to love, and have the heartbreak when it is taken away. Her parents died when she was just six years old and she bears the burden of guilt that she caused their death. What better way to avoid hurt than to avoid love completely? Then, one day, she spies a man, looks into his eyes and feels.
Devin Hawthorne (LOVE the name) is an ex-cop looking to settle down in Savannah. He’s opening a PI firm to be closer to his cousin, Megan. Luckily, one of his best mates from College, Nate also happens to work and own a bar in town. Now, Devin’s got a lot on his plate getting things set up for his business but when he sees Calla for the first time, he knows that he’s going to have to find time to pursue, claim and protect this woman.
Wallflowers isn’t just about the relationship that grows between Devil…I mean Devin and Calla. We also get a murder investigation that drags all the Wallflowers, Devin, Nate and his new buddy Bo Strawn, into the intrigue. As the pieces fall into place, and the baddies are revealed, I can honestly say that the last piece of the puzzle took me completely by surprise.
The intimacy between Calla and Devin could be described as a slow burn, but because their attraction sizzles from the very beginning you never feel likes it’s drawn out. Once they do come together it is smoking HOT and exactly the way I like my heroes to take, conquer and possess. A “mine” here, with a “my job to protect you” there gives me all the heart flutters I need.
I really enjoyed Wallflowers. Yes, there were times when Devin’s devotion to Calla seemed a little too insta, but this is what you get when you read a book by C.P. Smith. I’m not complaining, though because I’m all for a little unrealistic insta lust/love that Ms Smith is famous for. If the Devil rides a motorbike instead of a horse, then who’s going to complain about that?
I cannot wait for Poppy's and Sienna’s stories…and I think I know who will risk “lyin’, stealin’ and killin’” for them, too.

4.5 brick by brick stars
Calla Lily Armstrong has been living her life behind a brick wall where she is safe from harm and any emotional or physical attachments. Then one day she sees a man who can tempt the undies off a nun and begins to question her choice in lifestyle.
Part of her plan to start livin is opening her life to friends, and in come her fellow Wallflowers, Poppy Gentry and Sienna Miller, with a vow to find their HEA one Wallflower at a time. Lucky for Cali her HEA lives right next door and he is man enough to Take down the wall brick by brick. Convinced she needs a man who is safe and boring, Devin must convince Cali he's the right kind of Devil for her.
Devin has his hands full on finding a missing woman, putting down roots in a new town and setting up shop to be successful...but one look at her and he knew without a doubt that she would be his and she would worth the pain in the ass.
Wallflower is a beautiful quirky story of finding all kinds of love; self, friends, family & true soul deep kind of love. This was equally sexy and sweet, feeding the romantic in me while making me laugh while turning the pages in mystery. Devin and Cali had a chemistry you can feel right off the bat, and it built from page to page, growing with need. Their banter and Cali's innocent denial just added to the pull this book had on me. Devin is such a patient alpha, he knew what she needed, how fast she needed it and was there to prove to her ever step of the way.
The females in the book were hilarious, they were the fun bunch you had around you everyday. This story is told from both Devin and Cali's POV, and is a stand alone, so you need not worry. Definitely looking forward to the next book, these alpha men have another thing coming because these wallflowers are ready to bloom.

IT'S LIVE!!!
PERFECT!!! That's what this book was for me. Absolute and undeniable perfection, from start to finish! I was already in love with CP Smith's writing, but this book took my devotion and amazement to a whole new level! I adored every single thing about Calla and Devin's story! They were just as perfect as their book! Wow....
Calla Lily – adore the name, btw – has locked herself in her bookworm isolated life, since an accident stole everything she loved the most from her, as a child. She never recovered and her doting aunts were the only people she truly allowed to penetrate the fortress she built around her heart. Her relationship with her aunts was incredible, and as CP describes, from their strength to their independence and quirkiness, it really transported me to the Practical Magic. They were fantastic!
“No tears, sugar. We’re Armstrongs, not bleedin’ heart liberals. Suck it up,”
They had gotten the idea from the movie Practical Magic. They loved that movie, because they said it reminded them of our relationship. Minus the witchcraft, of course. However, instead of midnight margaritas like they drank in the movie, my aunts preferred mojitos.
But these amazing aunts and their love for her, didn’t make up for the fact that deep down she felt truly alone, like she was barely living.
All that changed with when a handsome stranger moved in next to her – and her aunts – and awoke feelings in her that she never felt before, pushing her to take action and fight for something more in her life, something that deep down she has been longing for all along…
“I’m not expectin’ much, though. I think fallin’ in love happens by chance. Serendipity. Like you walk into a room and bam, you just know when you lay eyes on them they’re the one.”
I want someone who will be a shelter from a storm, a beacon of light in a dark world. I want to feel safe, secure that what we have is as important to him as it would be to me. I want heat, passion, and friendship.”
The true dreams of a romantic soul! What she wasn’t aware was that serendipity had already worked its magic and Devin was the personified version of all her wishes. In the most delicious of packages, of course, LOL!
Scanning his hard lines and muscles, I stopped on his fantastic ass. Michelangelo himself couldn’t have sculpted one that firm, round, or bitable. If he had, it would have been called Michelangelo’s Devin.
But Devin’s backside was in a stratosphere all on its own; it was its own masterpiece.
It was Devinangelo, naked butt from the gods.
Devin has just step aside after ten years working in the force, and hope that this move for Savannah is the fresh and fulfilling start for a new stage in his life. But Savannah proves to be so much more for this smoking hot alpha, than he was hoping for, specially when he meets his next door neighbor and sparks fly as result of their magnetism. Calla must truly be some kind of witch, because he was beyond captivated!
She had the face of an angel, the lips of a seductress, but an innocent quality that called to his baser needs. His needs to pursue, to claim—to fucking protect.
Obviously, things were not as simple as they seemed and between tearing down her walls, solving her first detective case and protecting the stubborn woman and her friends from their antics, Devin had his job more than cut down for him, and he was more than willing to fight, because he knew that she deserved all that and more.
“You can’t choose who your heart wants. It doesn’t work like that. All you can do is follow it and hope that when you find what you’re lookin’ for, it wants you too.”
“What I’ll admit is that a woman like that would be worth lyin’, stealin’, or killin’ for.”
“It’s her eyes, isn’t it?
He didn’t have to think about why he was attracted to Calla. It wasn’t a single thing, but the whole package, so he answered without hesitation. “No. It’s her heart, her courage, her ability to be so fuckin’ innocent in a world full of shit that bein’ around her is like steppin’ inside a goddamned shower, makin’ you feel clean for the first time in your life.”
Devin and Calla were truly amazing together, and I adored seeing their relationship develop and grow strong after their obvious insta-love. CP Smith gave us such a rich context and deep look into their feelings: doubts, fears, cravings, love and passion, that I felt their bound grow and blow right along with them. And their chemistry transported to the bedroom – or cottage entrance, lol – was off the charts!!! Here, once again, Devin proved to be an OTT alpha ALL the way!!! God Lord… *Cue fanning myself*
This look was lust personified. It was primal, possessive, and all-encompassing. The world simply ceased to exist when a man looked at you that way.
“All you need to know”—he whispered, his voice deep and husky—“is that the second my lips touch yours, it’s over. You’re mine.”
But the true awesomeness of this extraordinary book doesn’t reside only in their relationship development and romance blooming, or even the enticing suspense given by the side plot! CP Smith gave us in WALLFLOWERS: THREE OF A KIND, something even more special: a bond full, deep-seated friendship, a true sisterhood that warmed my heart and opened Calla’s world in another brand new direction, a new kind of love – sister love. And what better twin souls to herself than Poppy and Sienna?! The world would never be the same now that the Wallflowers were here!
“In case you missed it, we have a couple of things in common. One, we’re all named after flowers. And two, we’ve been sittin’ against the wall watchin’ life pass us by. I don’t know about you, but I, for one, don’t want to be a Wallflower anymore. I say it’s time we stood up and took a spin around the dance floor. I think it’s time that we three Wallflowers take life by the horns and made our own destiny. . . What about you?”
“I’ll go first . . . For courage to break down my walls and let love in.”
Poppy raised hers, smiling. “For wisdom to not judge a book by its cover.”
“Definitely somethin’ you need to work on,” I giggled.
We both looked at Sienna, and she raised her glass, lifting it to the ceiling. “For lettin’ go of the past and seein’ what life brings our way.”

All these elements coupled with Calla and Devin’s love story, transformed this book into something amazingly PERFECT for me! Like I’ve said before, I already loved CP Smith’s brand of Romance writing, but Wallflowers: Three of a kind took it to a whole new level! The author has an extraordinary gift, and this book just makes it shine through! I’m so addicted to these characters that I can’t even tell you how excited I am to read Poppy and Sienna’s stories! More than counting down the days! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

5 Wallflower Sisterhood Stars!!
C.P. Smith has quickly became one of my favorite authors after reading A Reason to Breathe, Restoring Hope, and Property Of. Now she has given me a new book to love.
Wallflowers: Three of a Kind is a story about three young women who once they get to know each other, find they all have something in common, all three for their own reasons have avoided relationships….you get the impression they’ve had relationships, just not good ones.
In Wallflowers, we are treated to suspense, many humorous moments, a sexy alpha male, and a sweet sometimes stubborn and feisty heroine. Calla Lilly Armstrong was raised by her two spirited aunts Eunice and Bernice, who took Cali in after her parents’ death. Because of her parents’ death Cali has abandonment issues which plays a big part in her decision to remain single…..until she spots her new neighbor Devin Hawthorne (how fantastic are these names!?).
Ex-cop turned Private Investigator, Devin has just moved to Savannah and like Cali, the minute he spots her he’s instantly smitten. When Devin receives his first case, a missing person case, it seems Cali is somehow involved which puts him in the perfect position to get close to his beautiful new neighbor.
The secondary characters are fantastic, Cali's feisty protective aunts (who I loved), her two best friends and fellow wallflowers Poppy and Sienna, I love the sisterhood between the Wallflowers, and just sayin’ they are a hilarious when together! And let’s not forget Devin’s broody friends Nate and Det. Strawn.
C.P. Smith has become a favorite auto buy author, I absolutely adore her, her yummy Alpha’s, and her feisty Heroines. I can't wait for the next two Wallflowers books!!

This was an entertaining and low angst read. Three woman recognize that they are wallflowers and make a pact to help each other to stop letting life pass them by. Starting with helping Calla catch the new-to-town and hunky detective.
What Calla doesn't know is that she doesn't need to catch Devin because he has already set his sights on her. He just needs to break down those protective walls she has built for her to see he is already standing right in front of her.
This was a fun story. These three wallflowers get into all kinds of shenanigans. Add in three hunky men trying to solve the missing woman case only to be constantly sidetracked by trying to keep the three women safe. Then we have the evil villain in the story that changes from one person to another, not really knowing who it is until the very end.
Overall a good start to a series that has me intrigued to get to know the next couple in the series.

Calla Lily has put her life on hold that she doesn’t know how to escape the rut that she is stuck in. She wants to break out of her shell, she wants to laugh, to live and to love. Baby steps! That is until one Devin Hawthorne enters her life. It is time to live but watching Devin also helps with her decision.
Devin Hawthorne has moved from Atlanta to Savannah for a change of pace. Savannah is old money a town full of secrets the perfect setting for a new PI. While showing his cousin Meghan around he sees the woman of his dreams. Meghan sees it and calls it before Devin even had the idea developed of claiming Calla for his own.

Devin can get any woman all hot and bothered. They get down and dirty..

Calla wants someone safe and easy not someone like Devin but it is getting harder and harder.
“Were you not listenin’ to me last night? I told you I have a weakness for Harleys, and he’s the Devil who’d be my undoing’. It’s like leadin’ a lamb to the slaughter!”
Then I sighed when he made his claim to the Detective Bo Strawn and in a short period of time what Calla has come to mean to him.

All the elements in the book that make a book a success are well balanced. Calla & Devin suck you in. You want to be friends with the Wallflowers. Although they are certifiable at times.
“I want a wallflower divorce!” Both women gasped at that announcement then started talking over each other. “Marriage is for life,” Sienna cried out. “Wallflowers don’t turn their backs on each other,” Poppy joined in.
But takes one to know one. Everything is different down South anyway. Lol.
Calla makes a big step to come out of her shell but mistakes Devin’s reaction for something completely different. Talking about it to the girls doesn’t help.
I love every character in the clique that Ms. Smith has created. How we meet the other female leads and the other male leads for the next books in the series. Especially Poppy & Sienna are quirky, unique and a barrel of laughs. But Nate and Bo? To die for. I tell ya.
Each brick is torn down that Calla puts up with Devin’s help of course. She becomes the woman she wants to be before her tragic past took over her life and made her hide from the outside world. She truly does have a horrible, horrible Grandfather but her Grandmother at least does one thing right for Calla. Sweet, funny and full of action and suspense. This story reminded me why I totally adore CP Smith. I always look forward to her stories. Throw in references to one of my favorite fictional heroes (Devil Cynster - to all of you historical romance lovers) and I was thrilled.
HERO~Devin was fantastic. Sexy, sweet and protective, to me he was what romance heroes are made of. He was tough as nails and not willing to let Calli push him away. I love how he protected her and was constantly looking out for her.
She had the face of an angel, the lips of a seductress, but an innocent quality that called to his baser needs. His needs to pursue, to claim—to fucking protect.
HEROINE~Calli was a trip. In some of her antics, the fact she didn't have friends or relationships was very evident. She had suffered from a life altering experience as a child and didn't want to be in a situation to loose anyone else that she cared about. She had an instant attraction to Devin and was finally willing to risk a chance in happiness.
The evidence was in the racing of my heart and the moisture collecting in my palms as my mouth ran dry. All my carefully laid plans to protect my heart seemed childish now; and in that moment of sexual awareness, I wondered what it would be like to be in love.
OM/OW DRAMA ~the beauty of a CP Smith story is she doesn't have to have the cheating and drama with others. She can weave a romance and match it with suspense, giving us a fantastic ride. There was flirtation by one woman who Devin paid no mind to. There was also a guy who liked Cali but she didn't reciprocate either. 100% safe
ENDING There was an epilogue, but it was only a few days later (to me, that's not a true epilogue) I know we have others books in the series but I needed more.
~the secondary characters were great. Cali's aunts were awesome. Her two friends (and fellow wallflowers) were a hoot. I am looking forward to their stories as well. The next book, Double Trouble is to be released in Spring 2017 (boo! too far) I am intrigued but I have faith that Ms Smith will keep it safe, fun and exciting.
~I will say that I was hoping for a bit more steam. They skirted around each other the first half of the book. There was nothing intimate until the second half and they weren't plentiful. That being said, I loved the storyline. Would have just liked some more steam.

I feel like I've waited forever for this book ever since Smith put a teaser up. I was really looking forward to it and she did not disappoint. It's a great start to a new series.
Calla spots her new neighbor in the yard. She tries to work up the nerve to go talk to him being pushed by her aunties. Meanwhile, Devin "Devil" spots Calla in the window. After a few misunderstandings, Devin is set on Calla being his. But outside forces make it hard.
This was a great setup to a new series. Several characters were introduced. I loved how the three "Wallflowers" came together and the friendship they share. They were very funny and I loved how they looked after each other and "never left a wallflower behind".
Devin was a great hero...the type I love....possessive and growly (not sure that's a word but it fits). He wanted Calla from the minute he spotted her and when he realizes she's available, that's it for him.
Calla annoyed me a wee bit...just my personal pet peeves but overall she was still a good heroine. She was funny and had me loling several times, especially with Sienna and Poppy.
My biggest complaint, and what kept it a 5 star read for me, was I wanted more couple time and less suspense/mystery. Being a new series, there were a lot of introductions and groundwork laid so I did cut it some slack. It doesn't mean it wasn't good. I just wanted more of them together as an actual couple. We don't get any sexy times until about 65% or so and then there's only a few after that.
There also wasn't much of an epilogue...only a few days out. I'm assuming that since it is a series there's more to come and we will get to see them in the future. I just like to make sure they are together many years later with marriage and babies.

Usually I include safety info with authors but for those that know the author it isn't needed. For anyone new to CP Smiths writing. She writes safe instalove books.
This is my absolute favorite of all of CP Smiths books so far. The heroine grew through the book as a character and honestly I love "wallflower" stories to begin with. The H was dreamy, posessive and loyal. So the casting characters were some of my favorite character types to read.
What really set it a bar above was the plotline. I love a good suspense/mystery that is so well written that you know all the players but still can't say for sure who all the bad people are until exactly the moment the author reveals it. Some books have to many red herrings, some try to shroud in mystery by giving clues and in doing so just end up showing who the big bad is within the first few chapters or they go the other way and give no indication that there is a big bad and plop it into the story.
This one was weaved so well I wasn't sure who it was until I was told then I wasn't sure who else was included in the conspiracy until I was told. That is an amazing talent wallflowers was a joy to read. I was spoiled with the added bonus of character types I love to read and can't wait for the next one.

The Good, The Bad, and Everything In Between
-The setup. Calla Lily (Cali) Armstrong has lived her life protecting herself from everything. She’s stuck her nose in a book to avoid emotional connections. Just when she decides to open up to friendships and love, in walks Poppy and Sienna (hence the Wallflowers are born) as well as love, when the Devil… I mean, Devin Hawthorne moves into her aunts’ building. Former cop turned private investigator Devin rides into Savannah on his motorcycle (natch) to be closer to his cousin as well as his friend Nate. When he spies Cali in her aunts’ shop Frock You (ha! Love that), there’s an instant connection. When a missing person investigations unexpectedly leads to murder, Cali and Devin must navigate their way around her issues as well as some dead bodies on the road to their HEA.
-The Wallflowers are my soul sisters. Have you ever pictured you and your girlfriends meeting some hot men and being swept up off your feet like in your romance novels? Lord knows, the Shorties are always discussing romantic tropes and bits of stories we love as well as everyday trials and tribulations. Well, the Wallflowers are the embodiment of that. If, you know, you’re gorgeous and don’t know it, adorably spunky, slightly crazy and with enough baggage to make your hero (and the reader) nutty.
Yeah, just like that. Anywhey, back to the review.
-Props to old school romance. I loved that this series is a nod to all those elements that we love in romances, with special shout-outs to historical romances and authors like Lisa Kleypas and Stephanie Laurens. These are the romances I read while growing up with my girlfriends, giggling all the while. When Cali, Poppy and Sienna hang out, their banter really shines and that certainly helped me connect with these characters.
-Insta-love at its finest. Devin and Cali’s romance takes place over a very tight timeframe, so yeah, there’s a bit of insta with this love story. I think it works because it’s not just about their attraction and there are actual conversations had that showcase those feelings. Their chemistry is on point and their love scenes are smoking hot. Let’s just say, I’ll be remembering certain...inspiring moments next time I see a Harley ride by me.
-Get your running shoes ready. So… Cali is what you’d call an emotional runner.
She definitely could have tried out for the track team the way she tries to run from her emotions and from Devin. Is it frustrating at times? Yes. But the beauty of it is seeing all the others who keep her on the path and don’t let her get too far up her own….head. She grows throughout the story and by the end, she steps it up and stands her ground when she should.
-The suspense works well. Now the suspense of any romantic suspense series is key, because the tension can really drive the plot and give the reader something to ruminate on while they’re getting their happy feels with the romance. Here, the action is well done and ultimate resolution isn’t completely obvious. The tension builds at a nice clip, but in the end Cali and Devin’s romance is the centerpiece, just the way I like it.
-Lots to look forward to with Poppy and Sienna. Now, when you read the book, I think it’s pretty clear who’s on deck next for love and who will close out this series, as well as the men who will be their partners in romance. I look forward to seeing these two couples also find their way to HEAs and enjoying every bit of that ride.
I really enjoyed it. Devin and Cali’s romance had a good balance of all the elements I enjoy in my romances. If you like funny, romantic contemporaries with a hot protective alpha mixed with a dash of danger, you may enjoy this as much as I did. I am eagerly anticipating the next Wallflower book.

I think it works because it’s not just about their attraction and there are actual conversations had that showcase those feelings. Their chemistry is on point and their love scenes are smoking hot. Let’s just say, I’ll be remembering certain...inspiring moments next time I see a Harley ride by me.
-Get your running shoes ready. So… Cali is what you’d call an emotional runner.
She definitely could have tried out for the track team the way she tries to run from her emotions and from Devin. Is it frustrating at times? Yes. But the beauty of it is seeing all the others who keep her on the path and don’t let her get too far up her own….head. She grows throughout the story and by the end, she steps it up and stands her ground when she should.
-The suspense works well. Now the suspense of any romantic suspense series is key, because the tension can really drive the plot and give the reader something to ruminate on while they’re getting their happy feels with the romance. Here, the action is well done and ultimate resolution isn’t completely obvious. The tension builds at a nice clip, but in the end Cali and Devin’s romance is the centerpiece, just the way I like it.
-Lots to look forward to with Poppy and Sienna. Now, when you read the book, I think it’s pretty clear who’s on deck next for love and who will close out this series, as well as the men who will be their partners in romance. I look forward to seeing these two couples also find their way to HEAs and enjoying every bit of that ride.
I really enjoyed it. Devin and Cali’s romance had a good balance of all the elements I enjoy in my romances. If you like funny, romantic contemporaries with a hot protective alpha mixed with a dash of danger, you may enjoy this as much as I did. I am eagerly anticipating the next Wallflower book.

I don't know how I managed to forget how much I love C.P. Smith's writing. I have read and obsessed over every one of her other novels and when this one was released I flaked. And now that I have read it (devoured it in one sitting while swearing to my husband I was going to put it down in a second (#sorrynotsorry)) I want to go back and kick myself for not reading it sooner.
First, I have to say that for me this book was like reading Kristen Ashley with a Southern accent. The theme worked to perfection. The characters were engaging. The secondary characters were great. There was not a single thing that I didn't love.
Calla was so beautiful inside and out. I couldn't have loved her more. Her personality and attitude had me so invested in her I felt like we were old friends.
Devin OMFG Devin. I love that they spent the whole book comparing him to a romance novel hero and he just kept knocking it out of the park. I mean seriously he growled, got jealous and possessive and had the whole alpha thing down.
And despite the fact there was a fair bit going on, the way it was written made it all flow so smoothly. Now I just have to wait to watch the rest of the wallflowers bloom.

Oh my goodness, this book completely caught me off guard! It had me laughing, smiling, swooning and falling in love with Calla Lily & Devin!! I loved how the southern dialogue reminded me of home.
Devin "Devil" Hawthorne didn't realize what he was getting himself into when he decided to relocate to Savannah for a change of pace, and he definitely didn't intend on starting anything with anyone there. Yet Calla Lily (Cali) catches his eye and there's no going back from it. Reading about Calla Lily's past and the trauma she's gone through had me crying and wanting to reach out to hug & protect her from everyone. Yet through it all she was determined to succeed and keep going, but with a wall built around her heart.
The interaction between Devin & Calla Lily's was not only hilarious, but also very refreshing. They both fight their attraction for each other, neither wanting to give in - and I think it's because of their stubbornness. And, even though the walls around her heart are strong, Cali is not alone. She has her friends Poppy & Sienna - known as "The Wallflower" - and the first thing on their agenda is "finding someone for each one". I didn't realize how much laughter and shenanigans these ladies would be getting themselves into, but I loved it!!

Devin is the best Hero written by CP Smith, IMO. I also really loved Calla. She has been handed so much shit in life but she's still this sweet, loving soul that has finally decided to let people into her world and heart. With an amazing cast of secondary characters, along with the perfect amount of suspense that keeps you guessing, this is a book you don't want to miss. This book made me laugh out loud many times. I can't wait to read Sienna and Poppy's stories.

Calla Lily - yep, just like the flower - has spent most of her life, so far, being raised by her Aunties. There is a big back story behind this circumstance that I won't cover off in my review though.
As a young woman, Calla lives a bit of a hermit lifestyle. She is a bookworm and has her dream job working for a publishing company. She is also incredibly beautiful and the wonderful thing about that is that she is completely unaware of it.
At a company picnic she decides to make more of an effort to make friends with her co-workers and this is how she becomes friends with Poppy & Sienna. It turns out that these three had so much in common that they can't figure out why it took so long to find each other. They are all single and want to find that special someone, they are tired of being 'wallflowers' and make a pact to help each other find love.
'I think it's time that we three Wallflowers take life by the horns and made our own destiny...What about you?'
Calla doesn't have to look too far when the gorgeous Devin Hawthorne moves into the apartment next door to her. He is like a walking wet dream and she cannot keep her eyes and thoughts off him. He is completely out of her league but that doesn't mean she can't check him out, frequently.
Devin has recently left the police force and is setting up his own PI business. He was looking for a fresh start and Savannah felt like the perfect place to do just that. The thing about a small town is that as soon as a an 'available' man arrives, all the skanky single woman come sniffing around. Too bad that Devin's head has already been turned by Calla Lily.
I thought that this was going to be whole plot line of this story but I was completely wrong! I very quickly got pulled into the 'who dunnit' storyline. People go missing, there are murders and a lot of dangerous situations that not just Devin but the wallflowers manage to find themselves in. Calla has a lot of family drama going on and what I thought was going to be all sweet and predictable turned out to be a fast paced and exciting read.
This was a refreshingly different read for me and I really enjoyed getting lost in this story.

The story was not bad. It had potential. But from the very beginning, I didn't like the exaggerated southern accented colloquial speech pattern. I was born and raised in SC and have spent a ton of time (went to college, etc.) in the low country near Savannah. The dropping of every 'g' in any word with an 'ing' was annoying! Every person in the book talked like that, when not every person in the South talks like that. And the only non-Southern person in the book was an Asian woman stereotyped with mangled English. I am not normally sensitive about these things, but that bothered me a lot.

December 16, 2016I got to about 16% and just couldn't take it anymore. The writing was so fluffy and the characters just acted strange. Then the author started to talk about Devil's Bride by Stephanie Laurens way too much, the heroine was carrying around the book, waxing poetic about how she is like that heroine and comparing the hero to that hero. No, just no. If I want to read Devil's Bride, I will. I don't want to read constantly about it in this silly book. I just couldn't take the silliness of the story and characters any more so this is a DNF.

The soft melodic drawl she describes in the dialogue is almost audible.
CP’s characters are nuanced in depth, the writing is insightful and intelligent, and Wallflowers: Three of a Kind is utterly intriguing with a combustible romance and a tight and twisting ‘whodunit' plot.

This is one of those books that caught my attention by its beautiful cover, although I am not a cover whore it does help to make me want to read the synopsis which is always the ultimate kicker. CP Smith is a new to me author so this was definitely a walk into the unknown, but I love finding new authors and CP Smith is definitely one I will be keeping on my radar from herein out.
Wallflowers is the story of three women or wallflowers as they affectionately call themselves. Neither of them are romantically involved, some have been hurt in the past and others have no inclination, but now they feel time is passing them by and it is time to get on that horse.
This book centres around the story of Calla Lily Armstrong, a woman that was raised by her aunts when her parents and brother tragically passed. Coming from one of the most affluent families in the area you would think that Calla had it made, but her grandparents are very set in their ways and their ideals and beliefs are not on the same page as anyone else in their family. Losing her family devastated Calla and since their passing she has built this impenetrable fortress around her heart. The only two people that have managed to make a dent are her two kooky aunts, but even so, Calla still keeps everything to herself.
Calla Lily works in a publishing house as an editor and is the ultimate book worm. This shy and retiring woman is in the perfect job as she constantly hides herself within the pages both inside and outside of work. The first step to reclaiming some normalcy was to make friends, so Calla starts with two co-workers, Poppy and Sienna and the wallflowers were born. Poppy and Sienna were definitely the perfect sidekicks and throughout the book you see Calla peeled like an onion as little layers are slowly peeled away.
Devin Hawthorne is a former homicide detective who has now moved to this small affluent town to start work as a private investigator. With friends and family in the area it was the perfect change of pace and to also escape the red tape that he had always felt held him back in the force. Devin is Calla’s new neighbour and it wouldn’t be long before their paths crossed.
CP Smith delivers the perfect balance of swoon, wit and suspense as Calla and Devin start working on his first case, the disappearance of a young woman. With Calla on board as his personal tour guide it isn’t long before the sparks begin to fly between these two, but with the Kevlar heart that Calla has firmly in place has Devin got the ammunition to shatter it to smithereens?
All the characters in this book have their parts to play and Cali, Poppy and Sienna are definitely a handful with their hair brained schemes. Not only does Devin have to solve this case, but he also has to keep the wallflowers safe too. With his best friend, Nate and Detective Strawn I can see two more possible pairings on the horizon and I cannot wait to see what CP Smith has in mind for these two.
With laughs aplenty, sizzling chemistry and that undercurrent of mystery and suspense CP Smith delivers a real page turner that will have you laughing one minute and swooning the next. I really really tried with this one y'all!! The blurb basically promised a sure thing for me. I had so many annoyances with the execution though.
Calla is a book editor who keeps to herself. She's a wallflower that needs to branch out in her life or it's going to pass her by.
Devin is her new neighbor. He's a PI who just moved to Savannah to escape his past jobs and his friends are there.
A few of this issues I had are:
I'm southern. I like a good southern book as much as the next person but everything in this book was OVER done. From the cliche "sugar" (I've never heard anyone call someone that in real life) to the way southerners dress and act, it was too much. I found myself rolling my eyes at everything.
The names. Sienna Miller (actress), Justin Moore (singer), Billy Ray (singer). Why put so much second hand in a book?
The whole "Devil" thing. I get it. He's kinda like a character in a book. I felt like it was pushed too much.
The timing. The whole book took place within a week. Literally fast forward romance.
I'm sure there was more but I'll stop there.

Oh. My. God. This book is amazing! A whole hearted “feel good” kind of book. I love the connection these three girls have. Calla, Poppy, and Sienna are the perfect combination of goofiness, hilarity, and love. When I set out on this journey I knew I’d be reading something a little different than my normal “romance novels” and holy freaking hell… this one pulled every emotion out of me over and over again. I am in love with these women. I need to find my fellow Wallflowers and form my own posse!
Calla Armstrong is such a refreshing character. She’s innocent, but still wise to the world and its craziness. I love the fact that she grew up in a fairly ordinary life despite being raised by her fancy free Aunts. Those crazy Aunts of hers kept her grounded and focused on what was truly important.. Family! Regardless of what they taught her, she still thinks that if she keeps her walls erected and people are at arm’s length, then she’ll never get hurt again. Oh boy does she have a rude awakening!
Devin Hawthorne is this uber hot and very sexy private detective who happens to move next-door to Calla. Wowza! The way CP writes her alphas is impeccable. I was instantaneously attracted to Devin. The way he grunts when he’s working out, the sound of his gravely voice and that huge 6’3” frame of his… Auoy Vey. SOLD! He’s moved to town to start his own PI Company and his friend already has a case for him.
The supporting character cast is pretty big in this one, but I'll only mention a few... Poppy and Sienna are co-workers of Calla’s and seem to hit it off right away. They’re witty, loving, and fearless. I fear they are both suffering from some sort of heartbreak or heartache, but we’ll find out eventually as these are our other “Wallflowers” and will eventually get a book of their own.
Devin’s friends are pretty rock solid! Nate is his BF from College and owns the bar, Jacobs' Ladder down the street. Good guy, but I think he’s going to be a hard nut to crack. Next up is Bo, a local Police Officer working with Devin on the current case. I love that he already has eyes for one of the Wallflowers (wink)!
Two people that MUST be mentioned are Calla’s Aunties, Bernice and Eunice. These women were shunned by their Father, but made a beautiful life for themselves and Calla. They run the “Frock You” upscale resale shop and are always around to hand out advice even if it’s not wanted! They are hysterical, entertaining, and good-hearted. Everyone needs Aunts like this in their life!
To sum this one up, Wallflowers can be put into so many categories. Romance, Suspense, Comedy, Contemporary, Action, and Erotica. Like I said before… So many feels… and those plot twist, eek! Once I started reading it I could not put it down. The characters are commanding and alluring. My life became consumed with their every move. The dialogue flows smoothly and feels very natural like a conversation you might have yourself. The tension starts instantly and continues throughout the entire tale. I loved it with my entire heart and can’t wait to see what else CP has in store for all these beautiful women!

Oh. My. God. This book is amazing! A whole hearted “feel good” kind of book. I love the connection these three girls have. Calla, Poppy, and Sienna are the perfect combination of goofiness, hilarity, and love. When I set out on this journey I knew I’d be reading something a little different than my normal “romance novels” and holy freaking hell… this one pulled every emotion out of me over and over again. I am in love with these women. I need to find my fellow Wallflowers and form my own posse!
Calla Armstrong is such a refreshing character. She’s innocent, but still wise to the world and its craziness. I love the fact that she grew up in a fairly ordinary life despite being raised by her fancy free Aunts. Those crazy Aunts of hers kept her grounded and focused on what was truly important.. Family! Regardless of what they taught her, she still thinks that if she keeps her walls erected and people are at arm’s length, then she’ll never get hurt again. Oh boy does she have a rude awakening!
Devin Hawthorne is this uber hot and very sexy private detective who happens to move next-door to Calla. Wowza! The way CP writes her alphas is impeccable. I was instantaneously attracted to Devin. The way he grunts when he’s working out, the sound of his gravely voice and that huge 6’3” frame of his… Auoy Vey. SOLD! He’s moved to town to start his own PI Company and his friend already has a case for him.

2 stars. This book just cemented that this author's writing is not for me. This is Calla Lilly and Devin's story. Calla Lilly is a Southern belle and Devin is her hot new PI neighbor. Together they solve the mystery of a missing girl and fall in love. There's way more to it, but that's the gist.
The story was not bad. It had potential. But from the very beginning, I didn't like the exaggerated southern accented colloquial speech pattern. I was born and raised in SC and have spent a ton of time (went to college, etc.) in the low country near Savannah. The dropping of every 'g' in any word with an 'ing' was annoying! Every person in the book talked like that, when not every person in the South talks like that. And the only non-Southern person in the book was an Asian woman stereotyped with mangled English. I am not normally sensitive about these things, but that bothered me a lot.
Also, there is ista-OTT-BFFness, insta-love, and a TSTL heroine and her friends who act without thinking. Calla Lilly was annoying and dumb. Devin was not a bad hero. He was protective and sweet. The side characters are meant to be delightfully wacky but were just extreme OTT caricatures. But overall, I just do not connect with the shallow characters or the writing style. This was like a really bad Southern style Rock Chick series book. I considered DNFing this book, but I was curious enough about the mystery to finish. I have DNFed another book by this author but the premise of this book made me curious enough to try again. I don't think I will try any more after this though.

This book.... oh, this book! :) It's good. Extraordinarily good.
Very few authors can pull off what CP Smith does for me in each and every book: believable insta-love, swoony alpha heroes, and relatable and loveable heroines.
I loved seeing Cali and Devin fall for each other and overcome the obstacles thrown in their way. I laughed and cried, rejoiced and hurt with them through it all. I was so drawn into the story that I really felt like I became Cali (being a wallflower myself, she and I have similar hearts) and loved being pursued by Devin and finding an inner strength and courage. All the words of wisdom provided from multiple sources touched my heart and encouraged me, too. I was fully lost in the story and so did not want to leave Savanah and Cali and Devin's presence.
Another love for this story: the trio of women who built a friendship to last! There's more than just a love story between Cali and Devin, there's also a friendship love story being built with the 3 women that has a strength and beauty all it's own!
If you're looking for a story that delivers all the feels, gives you depth, and sweeps you off your feet, look no further!
