Quantum Worlds is a science fiction short story of two intrepid scientists witnessing what at first appears to be the inconceivable results of an exotic experiment into the quantum realm, but is more terrifyingly real than they could have imagined. In the story, a professor and a military researcher, both great friends from years past, come together after a military experiment temporarily opens up an unstable portal into another universe with disastrous results. The researcher escaped the disaster, reaching out to his professor friend in secret, only to find the professor running his own early stage tests on a similar experiment! EPIGRAPH "What one expects to find under the microscope in the quantum realm is not what Alexander discovered one day in his laboratory. As an old friend shows up and tells a tale of secret military experiments into the quantum realm, they quickly unravel one of the greatest, and dangerous, paths to exploring worlds trapped in other dimensions." After his memoir about teaching English in China, 'China and the High Roads Beyond', Mathew worked on 'Our Cosmic Story' (now also published with associated short stories here on Goodreads).
Creating Our Cosmic Story was an amazing journey that started by speaking with experts in a multitude of fields. The new book describes the formation of our solar system, biological evolution on Earth, historical civilizations and the eventual exploration of space, to the chance of life and civilizations to occur elsewhere in the cosmos.
Overall I really liked this story... the plot is well done and definitely got me into it. I am hoping there is a sequel in the works as the cliffhanger ending definitely implies one. Some of the dialogue is a bit stilted, and it would be nice to see a bit more character development if there is a sequel. I find the whole mystery of what happened and what they saw quite interesting and would love to know more.
This is the second book I have read of this author and I definitely like his writing. The flag with 13_stars got me wondering what they had come across.
