In book six of Zena Wynn’s True Mate series is Rome and Zuri’s story. These two grow up together as foster siblings after Zuri’s father takes in a abandoned Rome. They have always been close but just when Zuri decides she wants to be more than friends, Rome decides it’s time to leave because his kind is not known to stay in one place for to long , at least that’s what life has taught him. Broken-hearted, Zuri vows to get on with her life and is resigned to the fact that she just lost her true mate and accepts the fact that love may never be a part of her future. Fifteen years later, after experiencing a literal fight for her life and loved ones, she here’s a voice she never thought she’d ever here again. Will this be Zuri and Rome’s second chance at love, or will this be closure to what never was never meant to be?
Rome’s Pride was a weekend diversion into paranormal romance with a little suspense tossed in. Since both these characters had alpha tendencies , there was some back and forth on who would end up on top, in and out the bedroom, which made for a great story line. Also you get to visit with, or at the very least, hear about characters from other books in the series ,and if you’re a fan like me, that’s an added bonus. I also loved the descriptions of the background settings because it gave me a feeling of taking mental trip to somewhere tropical which I could really use right now 😅. I enjoyed the romance as well as the drama and because I listened to the audio version I had the added touch of narration. The narrator did a good job enhancing the characters emotions at any given moment and together with well written storylines made for a enjoyably entertaining read.

Why I started following this author

This series is why I started following this author. Nothing in this book was predictable. I love the chemistry between the leads. Despite being 20, the male lead was mature enough to see how a jaguar's nature could be damaging to their relationship and decided to wait. I was not expecting the wait to be that long. Then the author did not downplay the insecurity of the female lead. Her heart was broken and Rome had to work hard to get her back. I liked the author did not downplay the issues going on in Costa Rica at that time and used it as part of the storyline. I'm checking out more in this series that I initially did not have an interest in when I first read some of the books.

Rome's Pride is the 6th book in the True Mates series by Zena Wynn. Rome's Pride deals with the relationship between Zuri Buhari and Rome Barrio. It is a shapeshifter/paranormal romance.

I typically don't like shapeshifter romance stories but I really like the characters and situations that Zena Wynn presents in her books. Most paranormal romance novels are super cheesy and while they are paranormal and out "there", it's too much fantasy for me. I prefer something rooted in some reality and Wynn balances the line between fantasy and reality decently.

Another favorite of mine about Zena Wynn's stories is they are all in the same universe! Wynn typically references the old characters in some capacity while setting up new characters for a sequel but not in a way that takes away from the main character's story. However, this book did seem a bit rushed. Wynn spent most of the book setting up some big danger to Zuri and her pride but in the end, the danger was taken care of easily with a nice bow on top. It would have been nice for there to have been some real challenge to Rome and Zuri's relationship. I enjoyed this book and I will definitely read the next in the series but the first True Mates will always be my favorite.

Loved it!!!

I loved this story! True mate’s will find their way back together even after 15 years apart. Rome and Zuri were raised in the same household. At 17 and 20 they realize they are mates. Unwilling to mate her at such a young age, they end up being separated for 15 years. The resulting HEA is marvelous.

Another hit!

This book was my second favorite out of the True Mates books. I love them all but this one and the first were my favorite. I loved it from start to finish and will probably read it over many times. The characters were well flushed out. Rome was true to character and I like that Zuri did not make it easy on him. Zuri was a strong woman & handled her man!

Not a bad story. This interracial black woman latin american story wasn't bad. I look forward to Bull's story with Tamera's sister. I can't wait for that one. As well as Connor's.

True Mates Indeed

Loved the whole series each couple had their challenges to overcome but the biggest challenge was to accept their fate and trust what's in their heart.

It was a long wait

But it was so worth it. Thanks Zena for a great addition to your True Mates series. I was intrigued with Rome's story and never forgot about him. I knew that you would give him a mate that was worthy of him. Please don't us wait too long for Bull's story. I know that will be a great one too.
