DNF!! Could not, will not finish this book. At page 162 I put down this book for good. I got more than half way through and I felt like nothing of importance happened. The first thing that bugged me about this book is that the main character didn't speak for the first 78 pages. I didn't understand why because clearly she can but didn't want to. WHY? Secondly, the characters were bland and boring. The 'Love' interest Micah was nothing special, including the new 'Love' interest Ethan. The interactions with Emma and her two boys were frustrating and did not make me love their relationship. With only 67 pages left we find out that Emma's accident could be a lie.. and I don't even care what her story is. I skimmed some parts in the last few chapters and I am glad I stopped when I did.
I received this book in exchanged for an honest review.
I did read the book in its entirety and I was really into the first half, while noticing things that distracted me. However, the second half became annoying. Simply put, this is a good story markedly diminished by poor editing. Among the very distracting things many places where two words as a contraction would have aided the flow, mixing past and present tense in the same passage, awkward phrasing (things like 'I burrowed myself into the chair,' and 'Raven crossed her legs in anticipation,'). The author has definite talent and I hope she continues writing, but works with a good editor in subsequent books.
I really enjoyed the story! There was not much description and it had a fast-paced story. It is a book for all ages! It was fun to follow the protagonist's story. The only complaint I had was how shallow the language was at times. For example, I cringed whenever I read, "could care less." There were also many sentences that lacked commas in the right place. Looking past the grammatical errors spread throughout the novel, it was catchy and exciting to read. I could see a sequel being fun to read as well!
