Undercover FBI #4

Special Agent Kandice

Rate this book
Powerful, thrilling and character-driven, this romantic suspense is a real page-turner.

Special Agent indeed, Kandice Warner is everyone’s best friend. Talk about a Barbie doll! This female might have the same pretty-girl looks but even though she has a tender heart, she also has the resilience needed for a very successful FBI Hostage Negotiator. Feelings of inadequacy constantly force her to prove that she’s tough, and she demonstrates her courage when dealing with a murderous bank robber and a desperate jumper. But her tender heart can get her in trouble and she needs to grow a thicker skin. Almost impossible when her obstinate new boss, for reasons of his own, interferes in everything she does.

Assistant Director of the Criminal Investigative Division in Washington, Dan Black is as hard as they come. With the grit of a street youth stiffening his resolve, he’s worked his way up through the ranks, his personal space shields as strong as ever. Until he sees the sweetest things on two legs! A girl from his past. The one he’s never been able to forget. Working undercover in the Seattle bureau, he tries to protect his childhood fantasy but she refuses to stay put or take orders. Faced with a woman like that, what’s a mere man to do?

I love all the special Agent books Ms. Barbour writes. This one had some sweetness to it besides the suspense. Kandice also known as Kandi is such a sweet woman and believes everyone has some good inside them. I would agree with her. But she was shown that there are some people out there with no conscious. Now she sees that maybe everyone doesn’t have some good in them and opened my eyes too! I think her sweetness makes her such a good negotiator. It is so nice how all her fellow agents like her and kid around with her. When Dan, her new boss, comes in he tries to protect her. It made my heart melt how Dan met Kandice a long time ago. I loved Kandi’s father and all the cool gadgets he made to help her out of tight spots. I even laughed some with what Kandi would get herself into. I strongly encourage you to read the book.

This books started out with an exciting bank robbery case. Then the storyline dragged. I wasn’t even feeling the chemistry between ASAC Dan Black and Special Agent Kandi Warner. The intriguing ending saved this book from a 2 Star review.

Wow! The story never stops surprising the reader! At least that's the way I felt. The situations and the characters come truly alive. Kandace specializes in defusing tense situations. What is totally surprising is how quickly they come one after the other. But Kandi handles each one expertly. Regretfully, one is a hostage situation which puts her on the radar of some very evil men, one of which insists on making Kandi pay for it dearly. This situation plays a major role in the excitement, adventure and danger of the book.

Being based in the Seattle district office of the FBI, Kandi has lived her whole life there. She had a difficult childhood, and memories affect who she is today. Her father, who doesn't appear in the story until late, turns out to have been a major influence on her development and is a life-long protector.

When Dan enters the story and Kandi's life, things become a little tense in the FBI office. When it turns out that he and Kandi actually share a childhood background, things really begin to change. Dan takes more than a professional interest in what she does and there begins a romantic relationship.

The story is exciting and endearing. Kandi is loved by everyone of her co-workers and her outgoing personality helps her achieve fame and notoriety. She is known and admired throughout the community. She knows she is good at her job, but thinks that Dan doesn't trust her, which in fact he doesn't because he was transferred to Seattle on a special assignment. This assignment makes him not trust what is going on unless he is totally involved, which happens up until the very end of the story. The story has a surprise ending that I never saw coming. I hope there is another chapter to be written about Agent Kandace Warner!

I loved Dan. Here’s this stoic man who’s had to fight for every good thing in his life, and he’s given this opportunity to reconnect with the person who made one of the biggest impacts on his young life. I’m not surprised he’s an emotional mess for most of the book. Kandi, on the other hand, left me scratching my head. I liked that the author was trying to create a strong female character who was as compassionate as she is capable. But, bright heavens! Kandi’s inability to prioritize her own safety drove me completely batty. She may have had law enforcement training and her daddy’s gadgets, but the way she kept throwing herself into potentially deadly situations with little to no forethought and no backup made me want to scream. It was very difficult for me to take her seriously, and that impacted my enjoyment of the story.

This is my first Mimi Barbour book to read and it did not disappoint. Special Agent Kandice, with her curly-blonde hair and super sweet disposition, is a top notch hostage negotiator struggling to find her inner tough guy. ASAC Dan Brown is a glowering mess who's been in love with her since they were kids, but is afraid to tell her he is "the boy on the bus" who protected her from bullies. With exciting negotiator scenes and a strong plot line with several engaging sub plots, I enjoyed this book from start to finish. I think readers of Sandra Brown will really like this book.

Enjoyable.

This book is packed with action and intrigue. Agent Kandice is a marshmallow that perps take for granted, however, she is a top notch crisis negotiator. She has a loving and empathetic nature that have people eating out of her hands.
Dan is not only her new boss but a special someone from her past. He has a lot of explaining to do when things come out in the open.
I loved the characters in this story, from the agents, Kandice's quirky genius dad and of course Blue..

Good pace, with some suspense and romance...

An okay story that had some suspense and a little romance. It moved along at a good pace, but some aspects just didn't feel very real. It was hard for me to believe that an FBI hostage negotiator would get this many opportunities to use her skills in such a short period of time.

No problem reading this as a standalone, and everything was tied up in a nice, neat bow at the end. This is my first by this author, and I wouldn't hesitate to give her another try.

Cute Romance with some action

This was a cute and funny romance with some action. Kandice is a FBI agent whose specialty is negotiating with criminals in hostage situations. She is bubbly and sunny and no one thinks she is tough enough. Her new boss is the opposite but he and Kandi met as kids and he has never forgotten her and she is his weak spot. Chemistry, romance and hostage situations ensue. Really enjoyable read.

It her best

This story just It’s up to What this author normally brings to the reader. From the beginning the story felt rushed. The characters were just thrown out and not really developed and we were supposed to care about them early on. That’s hard to do when we’re not given a reason to care about them. I normally enjoy this author but this time a story never really grabbed me. I’m still waiting for other work just wasn’t there

You will Love

So, I think that I have fallen for a fictional man. Dan is and has been in love with Kandi since he first saw her on the school bus. After his traumatic youth he becomes a FBI agent. Wonders, so does Kandi. Both characters are wonderfully written. All supporting characters are great. The story moves quickly and is full of surprises. A definite must read.

First Loves

Kandice was one of those people who was a happy person and being a FBI hostage negotiator she had a way with people. Dan had come to the Seattle office to find a bad agent. But the two of them at met years before as kids on a bus. She didn't have his name, but he knew hers. Now bad people are trying to hurt her and is going to protect her.

Coming full circle when love enters

Kandice has always been the shy but sweetest person out there and as a fbi agent that made her job difficult. But since she was a child and couldn't defend for herself she thought being a fbi agent was the best route to go and she did her job well.

Perfectly Balanced.

What a gem of a story. There is the criminal element, the battles, the heroism, the policework. Then there’s the Romance! Add in characters that shine and dialogue that is snippy and funny, and the hook in the tail that will surprise and you have a top notch novel! Perfect!

They had been acquainted before, when very young, although having a nodding encounter with another on a school bus over a twelve month period, may not, in some opinions be an acquainted.
His shift thrust the two together and the mutual attraction definitely was there. However the job and it's own stresses always seemed to be intervening.
It's a drama as well as a romance.

Special Agent Kandice

Book is just as good as the first three books with Kandice and Dan being the big protagonists on this one. The agents both work hard at their jobs and there might be more of a connection that they realize. Running against gang is dangerous work both it is what they both signed up for.

Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith.

Special Agent Kandice is known for her soft heart and her belief that their is a bit of good in everyone. Her new boss comes across as cold and judgemental. Only he is really there to find out who has been leaking information to the drug gang that the FBI has been trying to take down .

It was a really good book. I liked Dan and how protectice he had always been of Kandi, even if he wanted to keep her safe and lock her away from the world. Kandi irritated because she was always putting her nose in things that weren't of her concern, she was a pain in the ass most of the time. I liked her courage and all that stuff but still, it was to much

This wasn’t my favorite. I thought the relationship developed too quickly and a little weird and then all of a sudden it was good. The storyline was good. It just took me a long time to warm up to the characters.

Did not finish. Barely started. The plot was great and would have been exciting, I think. The language is unacceptable. May be reality but does not need to be used to write a good story.
