If you need some zombies killed, who do you call? The Lucky Thirteen.
A few weeks have passed since the events in Aurora, and Bree, Nate, and the gang are back on the road. The odd mall to raid, cattle to herd, provisions to deliver—all no match for our trusty group of scavengers. The world is yours for the taking when killing zombies becomes routine. Yet with temperatures rising in late spring, a new menace appears on the post-apocalyptic theater of war. Roving bands, thousands of zombies strong are scouring the country, and already the first settlements are going dark. In a world where every human life is valuable, losing hundreds at once is not an option. What makes the zombies band together like that—and, more importantly, why are the tough ones even harder to kill than mere months ago? Bree may wish that she’s just paranoid, but she can’t shake the suspicion that finding a cure may not be the only cause the government is pouring resources into. But to what end?
Books in the series (so far): #1: Incubation #2: Outbreak #3: Escalation #4: Extinction
I am completely hooked on these books. The writing is exceptional and I have fallen completely in love with every single character in this book. Through some great writing I have suffered the loss of each character right along with Bree. I am so anxious for the next book it's not even funny and I only have a couple of weeks until it's released. Man this one will stay with me for a while. Very reminiscent of the Deadlocked series if you have not read those I highly recommend them if you are a fan of zombie conspiracy books. However, this one is by far the best zombie series out there.
There are a lot of reviews out there that already let it slip that there is a cliffhanger at the end of book 4... Don't let it deter you from an excellent series.
I started off with no expectations for an Author I have never heard of and have quickly become a fan, I am now invested in this series and cannot wait for the next installment!! It just reaches out grabs you and takes you along for an adventure!
Being disliked by all the settlements but they still went to help as much as they can.
Providing food and killing the hoard of zombies in front of the settlement but still treated like shit and they keep on helping until a town that treated them good and meeting with some old friends there.
Being betrayed by the government and finding them experimenting on zombies and she gets bitten and waits to see her last sunset.
I absolutely hate this. Why? Why must I wait for more? I thought stretching the reading of this book out longer would help with the wait, but with that kind of ending? Gah! I was wrong. So. SO wrong! There better be a way to remedy what the hell just happened. I can't even...gah I love this series but I hate it at the same time. No other thing to say but brilliant. If you've been reading the "Green Fields" series, don't stop now.
Extinction is where Lecter levels the playing field and things get a little more interesting than they already were. Insert the mysterious super charged zombies here. Lecter's already interesting take on a militarized serum that leads to the end of the world was already an interesting factor in the Green Fields series. However adding the additional mystery of streaks, beacons, and sly government entities only adds to the series.
This go round Bree and Nate are equal leaders. Somewhat a figurehead, Bree surges forward in solving the mystery of the streaks, lack of cooperation of settlements, and making her way as a marked scavenger. There is no turning back, only reacting to the situations at hand as they navigate the new world.
I am loving this series! Luckily, all of the books are out already; because book 4, "Extinction," ended with a real cliff hanger. I can't imagine how aggravating it would be to have to wait 6 months, or even a year, to move on to book 5.
I have read many different types of books from the zombie apocalypse genre, and the "Green Fields" series has been one of the best! It is well written and the characters are well rounded. The descriptions have such vivid detail that when I'm reading I feel like I'm right there fighting alongside Bree, Nate, and the others.
Lately I'm on an apocalypse binge. I have been reading this series back to back.
Sometimes I shake my head, as some things are very improbable, but as it is the apocalypse, why not? Things can be a bit upside down and weird. Science has flown out of the window after all.
I have to say, when I decided to settle down and just take things as they come, I enjoyed the books very much. It is a different take, sometimes more edgy, other times lighter. Well blended action and human interest to keep the reader glued to the pages.
I am currently at book 6, but I'm a bit stuck, so I'm taking a small break.
I absolutely and totally loved this book. It is a constant page-turner with no chance of taking a proper breath in between pages. There is a good lot of action with the descriptions so good that I feel that I'm in the middle of them all without the smell of course. They are such a brilliant lot of characters that I have a crush on all of them they each have their very own lovable foibles that makes them the individuals and a team all at the same time. A fantastic series that I can't stop reading.
This is the best book of the Green Fields series - interesting scenes, more depth of characters and an interesting premise with Dispatch and so on. My only qualm is that Lecter is very repetitive in her language, reusing the 5 fancy words she read in some other novel over and over. 'Mirth', 'ire', 'jovial'... and some phrases as well. But this is a recurring problem through all the books, and Extinction has a good enough story for me to, for once, ignore it.
OMG....what is going on?? That ending was both the best and the worst! Bree gets shot and bitten at the same time but still shows her awesomeness by patching herself up and going back for the rest of her team. What's next you may ask.....well you better keep reading because it's amazing. Still loving this series and I am definitely going for the next book right now! I suggest you do too....or start at the beginning if you haven't already.
Good extension of the series. This one has a cliffhanger. I'm glad I didn't have to wait for the next book to be written. Interesting for me that the books are focused on Bree who I know but never understand. PS The Goodreads Android app has a terrible interface for making reviews. if you're this far in, you probably don't need another opinion to guide your purchasing decision.
Book number four in the series. A rapid an exciting ride with a female scientist and service bodies. They have joined forces for the zombie apocalypse. I read this in one day as I have the rest of the series and it was just as wonderful as the first one. You can’t go wrong with this series! Great story line, great characters.
Bree, Nate and crew, finally make it to Dispatch in this book.Dispatch is an amazing place to be sure! Given a new job, with another group, called the Raiders, the group takes on a job to a warehouse for much needed medications. Gotta go and read book 5!!
It's incredibly hard to write a review with tears in your eyes. But here it goes. The book was no where near as long as the previous one, but it didn't lose any of the story with those pages. The street continues to be evolving and there's so sign of redundancy or staleness on the horizon.
These books are not my favorite but I like them enough that I want to finish the series! The ending of this book is a cliffhanger so of course I need to read the next! The characters could really be more interesting and the romance could be stepped up in my opinion!
This book the beginning was amazing and I love the characters and we meet some new people that I enjoyed meeting. But this ending wow it made my cry idk for I can take anymore. I will be reading the next book but it might be my last book. The books are really good I just don’t know if I can handle anymore tears and pain. The author did a good job. To good.
Our friendly neighborhood author has left us with a cliffhanger. If you liked the first books in this series, you will be equally pleased with this episode. The suspense had me reading much too late into the night. I look forward to starting the next edition from this series this evening after work... It's going to be a long day!
Very actioned packed and exciting! I think this is a pretty accurate depiction of what the world would be like, without laws. It's also accurate how there will always be people with their hand out for whatever, but not willing to do what it takes to earn things. I love the characters, though we lost some more this book. Hopefully nobody else dies.
I’m struggling with enjoying this series and I find Bri’s personality so off putting. She’s never happy and feels like she’s getting shafted by everyone. All she’s does is complain and I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish the series if her character doesn’t grown up and evolve more. I really want to the like this series, and will finish this book… but I don’t know if I can go on with it.
Oh my gawd!!! A- u didn't leave us on the edge of our seat!!! This has got to be one of the best zombie series I've ever read. I was in bed at 3 am reading this and screamed when I hit the last page ! Waking up my poor hubby I gotta see what happens next
This series has kept me so riveted that I'm having some trouble getting anything else read. I usually spend some time between books in series but this one is so good that I'll miss it once I've blown through them all. It's that good!
Cliff hangers. I hate them. Except when the next book awaits. This one almost did us all in. Very exciting! Excellent writing. The chuffing thing is so not an American thing but may become so.
Great story telling. Great plot succinct to say. If not for the overuse of the word succinct I've say 5 1/2 stars!!! Thesaurus! Use it!! Well enough of that, just keep up the good work and keep em coming.
This is the first TEOTWAWKI series that I've read that I will wait with baited breath for the next installment. Excellent writing. I will definitely be reading her other books.
The series is great the story is very captivating. The players are wise and kool. I keep reading each book with hopes of finding something to help with why this happened…each book has a way of explaining it.
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue the series through most of this one as it was very underwhelming and the relationship between the main characters is annoying, but now I have to see what happens after the bite..
Omg I'm so excited to read the next book, I so hope it's not the end for you know who I couldn't handle it. I need to go and read the next book I'm literally jump about here 😆
