The Danger is Everywhere...

The Dark Council has struck a shocking and powerful blow against the Light Court and its human allies, defying their own king, Nox, and seeking to re-establish Dark Elven influence and domination over the human world.

While Ryann and Lad work to restore production of Magnolia Sugar Tea, Ava is forced to return to the Dark Court to face her mother and Audun, the head of the Dark Council, and learn the consequences for disobeying their orders. With no other choice, she sets off on a road trip with her former fiancé Culley, whom she does not like and does not trust, and leaves behind Asher, the intriguing and much too tempting human boy she met in Deep River.

Along the way she’ll discover what Culley’s mission in Altum was, and the disastrous effect it will have on the human race.

But there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to this mysterious Dark Elven guy with his alluring and deceptive glamour, and Ava will find herself torn between two possible futures as she sets her own course through the Hidden world.

I love writing, and I love LOVE. I've been writing seriously since 2010 and have written 35 books (and counting!) Most of them are YA and NA romantic fantasy. There's a dash of paranormal and dystopian romance in my book list as well.

I'm honored to be an Amazon bestseller and multi-award winning author of the bestselling Hidden Saga, which is a 10-book Fae fantasy romance series, the heart-pounding Crimson Accord vampire romance series.

My new Romantasy series, Age of Fae, begins with A Court Bright and Broken, which released on Valentine's Day 2025. Book 2, A Kingdom Ruthless and Radiant comes out May 23rd 2025!

I live in Rhode Island where I write in my car at the beach year round and sometimes crave the heat and humidity of Mississippi, where I grew up. I love hearing from my readers! Reach out and say hi anytime.

Review

'Hidden Danger' is the fifth instalment in the gorgeous and alluring 'Hidden Saga'. I cannot express how happy and satisfied I was whilst reading this novel! I'm completely at loss for why I put off reading and reviewing it for so long! Nearly 8 months! I can honestly say that I am deeply ashamed of myself.

One of my greatest fears before I launched myself back into the world of the Light Court and the Dark Court was that I would not be able to follow the plot as well as I could have, and that the story would be partially lost to me because it had been so long since I last read the series. I was also a bit lazy - I'm ashamed to say - to reread books 1 to 4 and with little time. So despite all my reservations and the fear that I would unjustly rate this novel less than it ought to be due to remembering only the general gist of the 'Hidden Saga', I began the wonderful 'Hidden Danger'!

I really shouldn't have been so worried. This novel was easy to get into despite the long reading time gap I've acquired.

Within the first chapter I was caught and eager to learn more. Ava was a compelling character whose perspective the novel was told in. Her past transgressions against Lad and Ryann as well as her guilt and regret over them made me long to take a peek inside her mind. She was weak initially, but she built strength to go against the wishes of Audun.

Ava's evolvement over the course of the novel was distinct and one of the reasons I gave the novel a five star.

This is the second time I've enjoyed reading about a love-triangle. Ava's chemistry and the potential for a passionate romance resonated within both Culley and Asher. There were so many times when I would think Ava would choose one of them, and she would surprise me and choose another. The one she chose in the end surprised me beyond all. But in the end I was happy with that choice. It was true to Ava.

The writing was incredible. The author was able to infuse both emotion and imagery with such skill and talent that not one page was a bore to read. I loved the flow of language and the way it pulled me in. I was eager to read every page and there was not one minute which I could say was less than what I hoped for.

There wasn't much progression in the way of the battle between the Light Fae and the Dark Courts Fae, however this was eclipsed by the romance in 'Hidden Danger' which didn't draw back from the novel in the end.

A lovely ending to this novel which had me eager for the next!

Congratulations to Amy Patrick on publishing a fantastically fantastical novel! A swoon worthy read!

Rating Plan
1 star : Strongly did not like the book, writing and plot was bad. Idea of the book was against my liking.
2 star : Didn't like it, didn't find it interesting or gripping. Seemed to drag on to me.
3 star : An average book. Wasn't bad or good. Everything else was well done. Original idea.
4 star : Like a 3 star but has potential to it as a series or the book grew on me as it progressed and certain scenes captured me. I Enjoyed it and read it in one sitting.
5 star : I LOVED IT! I stayed up late until 3 am. Author is a genius, characters, plot, idea, development, EVERYTHING was EXCELLENT. Nothing else can possibly be said except that its 5 STAR!

This continuation of the saga was more about Ava which she decided at the conclusion of the previous book to do good for the light side. Her and Culley had to work together again and pretend to be together. I really thought this was going to go much differently so kept me guessing when Asher showed up in NY. I will be anxious to see more about Culley’s story next! Will he have a change of heart?

I love the sparks of danger included in this book. The back and forth between Culley, Ava, & Asher kept me turning the pages. There were times when I thought Asher was Culley, or a part of his glamour somehow because he always seemed to be in the right place a the right time. I can't help thinking that the author is not through with Asher yet, at least I hope not.

Surprisingly good.

I didn't think in was going to be interested in another story involving other characters; however, each new book, each new set of characters brings an even more interesting story I can't resist. Anxiously awaiting the next book.

Ava and Culley are still under the thumb of the Dark Court. Ava has some serious issues and regrets. She feels she and Culley could run away together but he won't show here the real him. Asher is willing to give up everything for Ava and she is falling fast for him.

Ooh yeah, Ava gets her redemption arc! And there is more Archer!

And poor Culley. Thank goodness we get Culley’s story next because that is a backstory I really now need to know. Poor broken bad boy and I don’t even go for bad boys (normally).

Okay, here we have Ava and Culley- Ava we’ve met before in L.A. (she’s in the novella The Sway) and she’s merely a pawn for the dark elves and the council. Culley is the son of the current dark council head (who is a seriously nasty piece of work on his own).

Ava’s glamor is why she has been selected to represent the dark elves as an ambassador and she has forcibly been arranged to marry Culley at a future date, thus an excuse to bring him along. Culley’s true purpose is not made known to Ava, but her mission is to undermine Lad and Ryann’s relationship and stop their upcoming wedding.

Like Lad and Ava need anything more happening to them. Geez, let them get a breather for a minute to enjoy some happiness.

Ava, however, feels guilty over her part so it’s Culley who keeps her on track and reporting progress back to daddy. If she wants to keep breathing she has no choice but to destroy the light elves from the inside out.

But even the best laid plans can go horribly awry and when it does, you’ll be surprised at how quickly everything can change.

And the books just keep getting better! Okay, describing them to someone makes these sound like the ultimate teenage soap opera (given how so many characters and storylines are intertwined) but that’s no excuse to skip out on reading these, because the plots and characters keep sucking you in.

Off to book 6 and Culley’s story! Yay!

SPOILER WARNING - SPOILER WARNING - SPOILER WARNING - SPOILER WARNING -

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK. Let me first start off by saying I was skeptical about this book at first, as a character newly introduced in the previous book, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy reading from Ava's perspective. Boy. I - WAS - WRONG. I truly LOVED it. In the beginning, I was NOT a fan of Culley but in this book... I am IN LOVE WITH HIM. The part where she drinks her sorrows and he takes care of her had me swooning. In every essence of the word. Watching his barriers fall down for her is so captivating. I loved it until .... Asher. Although he sounds all cute and rugged. I WANT CULLEY. The driveway part killed me. Still upset, as I'm about to begin the next book.
BUT I will have to say, this series makes you change your mind about characters and what you want to happen, all - the - time.
The author is a pure genius and makes you fall in love with whoever she wants you to fall in love with and makes you feel satisfied about the outcome, regardless if it was originally what you wanted to see happen or not.

Ok, this one took me a little longer since i don´t have so much time to read now. But it is well written and interesting and the characters are likeable. In this book we kind of leave the main story and follow Ava on her yourney to find what she wants. There is still an overall story that seems to go on, as i now saw the series is way longer than i thougt. I liked this one, will read another one and then leave the series for then. Maybe i´ll come back later to read more about The Hidden.

Easy going and light

I’d say this is better than the others. For some reason I like their story better than Lad and Ryann. Can be predictable at times, but it’s a nice read and a good continuation from the previous books. Perfect for young readers to dream in a world of make believe.

This series just continues to get better. Ava and Culley are sent to do Auden’s dirty work but Ava falls for a local farm boy, Asher. How every character are intertwined within the series is amazing! Amy does yet another fascinating way of keeping you on the edge of your seat.

Ana's story

Well, it's interesting that the main characters have completely changed. It's still a good story with another love triangle. I'm still not sure that I like Ana, or can get past what's she's done.

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

We return to the Hidden world of the dark elves in Hidden Danger with Ava, Culley and his evil father Audun. After failing in her mission to permanently separate Ryann from Lad (in Hidden Darkness), Ava was ready to run away and hide from the rest of her world but is pulled back in after promising to help the light elves with the mission to find out what Audun’s plans truly are. And so she goes with her fiancée Culley. Along the way, she realizes that Culley is not as bad as he wants people to believe he is. But is it enough for her to fall in love with him? Especially if she may already have feelings for someone else.

A dark elf with a conscience, who’d have thunk? So yes, Nox and Vancia (from books 1 to 4) are dark elves who are generally trying to do good and work with the light elves, but Ava and Culley have done so much evil and so much damage that you’d think there is just no conscience underneath…..but therein lies the difference. Ava wants a chance at a real life away from the courts while Culley feels like he has no choice except to obey his father.

In the 4th book Hidden Darkness, we already had a glimpse of what Culley could be. Here, it is much more obvious and I thought…. I hoped… that Ava could turn him around and that they are so perfect together.

Then there is Asher, the human who falls in love with Ava. Too deep and too fast in my opinion. For some reason, he came across to me as too annoying, too eager and generally just TOO much! His character didn’t sit well with me. But my reaction could just be because I REALLY like Culley for Ava. In my head, the bad boy always deserves a second chance. Either that or my attachment to Culley is unhealthy. So who does Ava choose?

No worries…as it turns out, there is happiness for all yet. And you’ll find out once you finish this book and wait for the next. Am I happy I read this book? The answer is yes. I do LOVE the series. maybe I’m not as sold on Asher but there is always Bad boy Culley.

The Hidden Saga is the story the Light and Dark Court, one trying to out rule the other. We've followed the story of Ryann and Lad in previous books, the leaders of the Light Court. Interwoven in their story are Vancia and Nox, Dark Court royalty and musicians on tour. The two couples have been trying to become a unified front and combine the two courts for a larger fae family. Unfortunately there are still leaders, such as Culley's father Auden, who believe the Dark Elves should rule the world and control humans. This is what Culley and Ava are caught up in but Ava's heart has changed when she realizes Auden's evil plan. We met them in Hidden Darkness when Ava used her glamour to change the memories of Ryann and Lad, she has since found peace and happiness. This was a tale of growing up, finding her true passion and understanding forgiveness. I highly recommend reading this series from the beginning to understand the village of Altum and start of these relationships. I was given an advanced reader's copy for my honest review.

Hidden Danger, book 2 of the Dark Court Saga is fantastic! In this installment we follow Ava as she travels to NY with Culley to see if she is punished for her failed mission. Along the way sketchy things pop up and she is put in difficult situations.
I really enjoyed Ava’s story. Watching how her character is growing in these last two books is great. I can’t wait to see how much of a great individual she becomes. We see more of Asher as well and it was fun to see him pop up in the storyline. I wasn’t expecting him. ❤️

I listened to the audiobook and I highly recommend it!! The narrator does a fabulous job portraying Ava and the guys, as well as other characters.

As I read more and more books - it becomes harder to really enjoy some of the YA books these days (as a mid-40's Mom). I really ENJOY reading. I'm so glad I came across this series. I read all 5 books in 5 days! I would highly recommend. The love story is great! The action and drama with the twists are fresh and exciting. Easy to follow. Again, thank you to the author for this compelling story!
