Darkview: Psychosis is a thrilling, dark, disturbing read about Jack Cyrus, a man on the verge of damnation, and his descent into madness. Jack saw unimaginable horrors during the Rwandan Genocide, and as a result, started suffering from PTSD. To make matters worse, upon returning home to Scotland, he’s faced with his wife’s sudden death. Lost, on his own, he struggles to deal with the schizophrenia that takes hold of him, and drags him into the darkness, as his thoughts grow increasingly more disturbing.

Six years after his wife’s death, Jack receives a cryptic letter from her, telling him she’s still alvie, and help captive in Darkview, the place where she spent her last days. Jack travels to Darkview to find out what truly happened, but instead runs into more strange occurences, more secrets and ancient mystery. As Jack pieces together the clues, and tries to hold on to his sanity, the question begs if what is happening is real, or just another facet of Jack’s growing schizophrenia.

The writing was excellent, and flawlessly kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters were interesting, in particular Jack – he was intriguing, with a lot of different layers to his personality, and unraveling what was real and what wasn’t was a fascinating task. The story is dark and disturbing, with just the right amount of creepiness.

I would recommend this book to all horror fans.

"It can't be! I buried you Chloe. Dead people can't write letters!"

Wow! Talk about a mind-twisting, horrifying ride! Just when I thought I had something figured out, I was pulled in a different direction completely! Several times, I uttered "Oh my God" or audibly gasped at what was happening!

You know that feeling when you wake up and you're not sure about whether what's running through your head actually happened or it was just a dream? Those first eye flutters between sleep and awake, where the line between your mind piecing together disjointed events in your life, and it putting everything in order is blurred? That's where Jack is trapped.

Jack Cyrus has seen horrifying and anguishing things in his life. From the genocide in Rwanda, to the death of his beloved wife, Chloe. Things like that can break a man. He's never recovered from losing Chloe and he's a shell of the man he used to be. When he discovers a blood-stained letter in which his deceased wife is begging for him to come find her and help her, he sets off for the place where they spent her last days - Darkview.

But, what awaits him there is more strange and horrifying than anything he could ever imagine. Visions filled with blood, death, and pain haunt him at every turn. Residents of Darkview that have long since left this world, walk the streets - their souls trapped there. Somehow, all of these are pieces to a puzzle that Jack needs to solve if he is to find Chloe and save her. But there are forces here that will do whatever is necessary to keep him from completing this task. Darkview has a murderous history, and Jack can't help but think the key is buried there.

I absolutely love a good horror story, and I love a good psychological thriller. This is both wrapped up in to one! You know it's a good story when, after you're finished, you close the book and just kind of walk around dazed, not sure of what you just read, totally creeped out by the horrific images, and unnerved by the blurred lines between reality, fantasy, and a psychotic break. As this is Book 1, I expected loose ends. But, I can't wait for Book 2!!

Loved it!!

A nightmare journey

Jack lost his wife to cancer 6 years ago, and his life has been spiraling down since. He receives a disturbing letter from his dead wife, which starts him on his journey. He goes to Darkview, the town where he was raised, met and married his wife Chloe and where Chloe died and was buried, thinking he would find answers there. Jack finds himself in the middle of Hell, a nightmare, or stuck in the middle of his own madness, neither Jack nor the reader knows. This book totally creeped me out and even caused my own nightmares. You never know from one minute to the next what is real. You reach a spot that you think reality returns when all hell breaks loose again. It is addictive reading, hoping that Jack will find his way out of the maze. I was completely impressed with the writing and the freaky characters. I was especially impressed with the heart pounding/can't get your breath moodiness maintained from the first page to the last.

Darkview Psychosis by R.J Bathgate and M.J. Hall is one of the darkest and most traumatized novella I have ever read. It's one dark ride after another one. A sadness unlike anything I have experienced is brought forth from the words on every page. A misery of hell that appears to be a nightmare or is it? Readers will be stuck in suspense and intrigue even after the ending. Wow...explosive, edgy, and full of danger. Loss, love, and craziness that leaves more questions than answers. Both R.J. Bathgate and M.J. Hall have a raw talent for creating a thriller suspense that will blow readers away. From the beginning to end I was sucked into the fast-paced plot before me. If this is turned into a movie, I will forever have the worst nightmares imagined...overall, I highly recommend this novella to all. Definitely, a must read.

Both of the authors really made this book a stone cold horror! I was constantly wondering what was going to happen to the make character next. Not only was I worried for him, but I didn't want to stop reading for myself. I needed to feel like I was in control of the situations that the main character was experiencing. So, the authors just didn't let me put down this book. If you are interested in a real fast paced horror read than this is the book for you. I recommend to all of the readers out there that don't mind sitting on the side of their bed biting nails and flipping pages!

I rate this book with a full five stars! For keeping me flipping pages and panicked to the bone!

I've been done with this book for over a week. I will say, this is the hardest book I have ever tried to review. I found the book disturbing and frightful, but at the same time, I could not stop reading. I kept thinking, was this how it feels when you lose your mind? The horror, the love story, the images, was it all real or just a dream. Just when I thought I had things figured out, I realized I was wrong again. Is Chloe alive or dead? Is Darkview a real place? Did any of this really happen?

This book left me wondering what I had just read, the reason for the delay in the review. I'm still pondering some things, as this book will leave you that way...wondering, OMG what if?

A well-written page-turning horror story from the darkest part of the human psyche.

Brilliantly written. This store kept me glued to the pages even through the confusion. Jack lost his wife, his rock. At first it seems he has suffered a mental break, then the possibility of potentially being in another dimension or even having found hell on earth. Who is alive, who is dead, who is a figment of Jack's imaginations? Can you figure it out? I don't remember the last time a book had me so confused, but at the same time absolutely entranced with the story. I look forward to see what comes next.

Mind blown! This was a total trip on a rollercoaster and I didn't see everything coming as I usually do. I could see the scenes as I read them. Well written, heart wrenching and an absolute must read.

A dark and harrowing story following the plight of one man battling with his sanity. A gripping book that will keep you awake for hours, fearing the dark if you read it at night. Using narrative that is immersive whilst being compelling means that, even though at points you feel you can't read on, you cannot put the book down. Each section, although terrifying, keeps you wanting more; to know what comes next and where it leads Jack on his journey and routing for a man who is clearly confused and in search of something.

For those who love psychological thrillers/horrors, this is a must read. It is well written and intelligently compiled using prose that encapsulates the reader and, horrifyingly, sets the imagination free to share with Jack, his terrifying adventure.

Downright Chilling!

This is an extremely well-written horrifying tale into the mind of Jack Cyrus. To say Jack is disturbed is an understatement. The journey that Bathgate and Hall brings the reader on is a plague through darkness and evil. To write something so sinister and horrifying is a great task. Jack's mind is darkened by an intense traumatic event, and leads to hallucinations, but what is real and what isn't? This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I had to read it with the lights on.

Darkview: Psychosis is an extremely enjoyable story that is well written and had me on the edge of my seat throughout. The authors did a fantastic job with bringing the characters to life, especially the protagonist, Jack Cyrus – a schizophrenic battling his demons. You really feel you're there with him, experiencing the atmospheric setting and everything he does first hand. Horror and thriller fans will love this book; even those who aren’t fans will be intrigued. Both will have difficulty putting the book down once started. Definitely recommended!
