This is a tiny jewel of a book on sushi. The photography is lovely but I seriously doubt I will ever get to eat at the restaurant it is for. With each fish listed Jiro lets you know what time of year he serves it and why. There are some tips on eating sushi at the end of the book along with information about how to get a reservation at his restaurant. The book almost seems to be geared as a book to get as a gift for eating at the restaurant instead of trying to take pictures of every serving of fish.

I was surprised that some of the fish is aged to bring out the best in it. Each fish almost has a certain way of being treated to showcase the best flavors. This is a really lovely gift book for the foodie on your shopping list.

I will never be able to go to this place to eat let alone just for a stroll in front of it.

However, the tasting menu gives insight on what fish they usually use for the omakase, how to serve it, and by the end of this booklet, a piece of quick information on how you eat sushi.

I love sushi! I just didn’t know you could top the rice with anything besides fish, like other seafoods, such as octopus, abalone, clam, and sea orchin

When I ordered this book (as I am so fascinated by Jiro Ono after watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi and because I just love sushi so much), I thought it was going to be a tome of sushi knowledge. However, when it arrived and I opened this tiny little pamphlet of a book, I was a bit skeptical. However, I'm glad to report that after reading, I think this is about perfect for what this book does. The book does three things: walks you through the majority of an omakase at Sukiyabashi Jiro (even including some seasonal ingredients) with fantastic photography accompanying descriptions of each ingredient, walks you through how to eat high-quality Edo-style sushi as prepared at Sukiyabashi Jiro with photo guides for each tip, and describes the restaurant experience at Sukiyabashi Jiro to close. Sushi enthusiasts and people who have seen the aforementioned film will probably not gain a ton of new knowledge from this "little gem of a book," but it worth it for the photography and specific insight included. I highly recommend picking this up, even if there is a low perceived value. I know I will come back to this when I want to enjoy some of the world's best sushi vicariously through beautiful photography.

This book's layout has beautiful pictures of sushi on the left side of the page and an interesting description on the right. The descriptions can range from Jiro describing how to prepare the sushi and explains the reasoning behind it, to him talking about how it was normally prepared, or a comment on a customer's experience with that piece of sushi. I really enjoyed the book as you can tell this is told from someone who has years of experience. Well worth a read but make sure you have some sushi handy because you'll crave it a lot!

This is basically food porn; a series of high resolution photographs of specific pieces of sushi served at Jiro's restaurant in Tokyo. There are short descriptions of the cut of fish and preparation style, along with the seasons the fish might be served.

If I ever get over to Japan I'll definitely bring this book along. In the meantime, it simply served to make me really hungry while flipping through.

Jirō Ono embodies perfection. He recalls almost having a nervous breakdown because at one time his rice was too starchy to make perfect nigiri.

Awesome!

I'm a fan of sushis, all Asian dishes and Japanese culture. So when I've seen a book about sushis from Jiro Ono, the three-Michelin-starred chef, I was really curious.
The book is yummy!

Lot of beautiful pictures. The food is delicately and elegantly put in display and it becomes pieces of art.
I've also liked the descriptions. You will learn about the fish, the way it's cooked or some other informations given by the chef. It really puts you in a mood for some sushis.

At the end, a "do or don't" way of eating the sushis. It was funny as I'm always enjoying them with some soy sauce...a huge...no no! LOL!

If you like food as a creative art, this book of suhis will transport you!

Should probably only read when about to try some high end sushi. Almost tempted me to book a flight for Tokyo to go to Jiro's.

Notable line or passage from the book:
If we buy sole from the market in the morning and have to serve it that day, we slice it very thinly. If we don't, it won't become one with the sushi rice.

Love the pictures in this book. It was interesting to read about the different fish and the different seasons that each is the tastiest in. It was really fascinating to read.

I received this advanced copy from VIZ Media through Edelweiss in exchange for my honest review.
