It started as a robbery of the house of a wealthy elderly couple. It was to end in the death of five people, as the robbers indulged in a horrifying orgy of rape and murder.
On a September evening in 1986 retired publisher, Joseph Cleaver and his wife Hilda were at home in their mansion in the heart of Hampshire’s New Forest, entertaining their son and his wife to dinner. The main course had been cleared away and dessert had just been served by the elderly nurse and housekeeper Margaret Murphy. Suddenly three masked men wielding pick handles and a shotgun burst in.
A harsh voice from under one of the masks ordered the women to take off their jewellery, and the men put their wallets and cash on the table. Then all five were marched upstairs, tied and gagged, and placed on beds or on the floor. Hilda Cleaver was tied to her wheelchair.
For over an hour the bandits ransacked the Cleavers’ home, the beautiful Burgate House, which stood near the banks of the River Avon near Brockenhurst. After collecting together, a pile of weapons from Joseph Cleaver’s gun cabinet, a TV and video and a few other items, they went looking for a wall safe they thought may contain several thousand pounds.
Had high hopes for this book, it was very short which I don't mind but it was rushed and no real proper context I don't think. Jumping from one point to another with no real depth. The three stars I have are solely based on the fact it wasn't all bad but it definitely could have been better.
This was a horrid murder!! These jerks, killed an elderly couple & their grown children. Even hurt the dog so badly, it had to be put down. Savages! Hope they are never released.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
In a mere 25 pages, the author has recounted a robbery gone wrong, unaccountably ending in the deaths of five people.
I am still puzzled as to why the victims were killed. The robbers wanted guns and they got them. One of the robbers wanted revenge for being sacked, but is that enough motive to kill five people, including an old woman in a wheelchair? They looked for a safe but didn't find one; were they angry enough to slaughter everyone in the house?
There were at least nine errors, not many and yet too many for a 25-page book.
It's hard to say this is a good book because of the heart breaking story but it was interesting and well detailed well worth a read to see what these "people" have done
Good short read. Not much detail which is okay because of the gruesomeness of these murders. I found it interesting and something you can read in 10 min.
